Ed001, was watching highlights from afew games from the 90s on Liverpool TV and the Anfield pitch always seemed to be the worst out of all the grounds. The surface seemed to cut up very easily. Do you think that this surface hindered us in the way we wanted to play especially as we still had the pass and move style? Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - it is an interesting thought, but we never seemed to struggle to play excellent football under Evans, our problem was just amateur hour defending. So I would have to say it is likely not the issue.}

Agree0 Disagree0

The pitch didn't stop us from playing David James, really poor keeper at that age, cost us a league or two.

{Ed001's Note - that is a very good point. Awful player he was.}

And a FA cup.

I watched the highlights of the SSS trio last night out of boredom. They truly were special. What a player sturridge was before injuries just took his legs.

We’ve come so far since then, but man our defending cost us dearly back then too. Very luck to have the tank that is Virgil.

Evans was a great manager and a really likeable person. Had a great team but as the Ed says. the defence and agree on James being terrible for us. If only he could of sorted that defence. But the worst bit was when houllier came in to work with him. How must roy of felt then.

Ed001 how in the blue blazes did James stay with us for so long?

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea, he was an utter bell of a man as well. I really couldn't stand him, he was right up his own backside and a complete waste of talent.}

It's not luck that we have Van Dijk TJ.
It's down to Klopp's persistence, even though it almost cost us in the long run!

{Ed025's Note - or tapping up expertise .. :)

Ed025, an expertise that is shared and practiced by many. I'm surprised your all-truthful and absolutely factual, self could have missed that. 😉😁.

{Ed025's Note - but there are degrees of expertise ArAy, jurgen is like phil taylor in darts when it comes to cheating mate.. top of the tree :)

Saw him smoking at a fruit machine in the Pumphouse once with a pint in the other hand. Even then, I was quite shocked that a professional footballer would be smoking.

My enduring memory of him was Jeremy Goss scoring past him from 30 yards out at the last game the Kop was standing. I've never got over that defeat. He didn't even move.

Gene Kelly couldn't tap as much as JK😉.

David James had the shot stopping ability, athleticism and presence to one of the LFC great keepers. But his head wasn't usually at the game, odd decision making at the worst times.

Memories of 90s pitches were that they would cut up - Old Trafford used to be awful at times, but during the winter our surface struggled. I might be wrong but the Highbury pitch always looked well kept.

Johann Cruyff smoked throughout his career (since we're talking about shocking facts) . Up to two packs a day. Even featured in cigarette tv ads. 🙄.
