Not related to Liverpool specifically but it made me laugh.

After 38,000 turned up for the midweek CL match (capacity 55,000) Pep encouraged more fans to show up for the PL match at the weekend. The secretary of the official fan club told him to ‘stick to coaching’. He then said that Pep didn’t understand the difficulties the fans faced……. presumably fair weather fans don’t show up if it’s raining or if it’s dark.

From a Liverpool perspective - CL at Anfield on a Wednesday night is unmissable. Guess that’s the difference between fans and glory hunters.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I think it’s quite refreshing that City can’t fill their stadium.

City over the last 5-8 years are arguably England’s most successful side domestically and if they were filling the stadium then it’s could ge argued that its full of glory supporters. The crowd they have attending games is probably still a high percentage of fans that followed them whilst at their lowest point of recent times in League one. If anything those fans have shown the true meaning of being a loving, dedicated football fan who will follow their club through thick and thin.

Being a fan of Liverpool etc comes with the massive downfall of its extremely hard to watch the team live in the stadium but that’s not just down to the fact we have a huge fan base. It’s because sometimes it’s the richest supporters who get to go to games because it’s like an auction for the wealthy to getting tickets these days. And that’s not a dig at the weekly season ticket goers who go as they are our 12th man.

{Ed014's Note - I’m with you JK, they regularly get in excess of 50,000 for home games and they’ll be genuine guys as opposed to all the fakers across the road from all parts of the country.

It does make me wonder why they don’t fill there stadium. I mean they have got some of the best players in the world and there game play is not exactly boring. Maybe they should have signed CR 😂.

you can buy a man city ticket for £12 for the home game against southampton so critise the fans all you like they are doing something right at Anfield its impossible in 99% of games to get a ticket and more chance of winning the lottery than getting an away ticket. only chance you have is the league cup opening rounds or a bottom half prem game. at least you can get in the game no bother and the prices are cheap! .

I agree it's the wealthy fans who get to go to games. You can hardly move for Lamborghinis around Anfield on a match night.

I remember when City were in Division 3 and getting crowds of 25,000 plus not that long ago and there’s no doubt that they have a loyal following of hard core genuine fans.

That said, I think the idea of the secretary of the official supporters club telling the manager of the club to mind his own business is just funny

I also think you could equally say that if they filled their ground all the time they might be attracting new fans by playing exciting football that is good to watch. I know which on I think it is.

Interesting point and i do kind of get what your saying. I feel as though this new ticketing system is a step in the right direction for the club in allowing more local non-season ticket holders to go the game. Imo there should be a very substantial proportion of tickets reserved for L postcode holders only, which they are now doing in some capacity (although i don’t know what proportion of tickets are held in this manner nor do i know how long they have been doing it for exactly) . There should also be more deals and schemes to get younger fans into the ground, something Everton do very well. Our global fanbase are incredible and the dedication they have is something to behold, but at some point you do have to protect the integrity of Anfield and make sure the experience is accessible for all. The old-school novelty of just deciding whether you want to go to the game on any given week should not be a thing of the past, and there should be more avenues of getting a ticket beyond either having/ knowing a season ticket holder or spending insane money on a ticket tout or a holiday package. People who cannot afford a season ticket and instead just fancy going the game occasionally should not be locked out of that opportunity. It shouldn’t be any more difficult than getting tickets for a gig.

im sorry but the amount of range rovers and similar big suvs and various other expensive cars parked using visitor passes around anfield is massive. which are all at a similar value to a lamborghini. It is becoming more upper class and that's followed by an older fan base because no one wants to give up a season ticket, iv been on list for 26 years for one. and i know many people my age who use their grandads or other people they know ticket to get into ground even now the phone system is in. the whole systme needs a revamp so people can go to games without waiting a year between them.

Great post Aw 👏.

Right I’m off to put some petrol in my Lamborghini.

It's going to cost me and 2 kids £300 to get to a match this season, i'm going to pay it but it's the hardest ground to get tickets for by a mile.

Lancaster I can’t even get 1 ticket how did you get 3 😱.

Hi Nath

You must walk down different streets from the ones I use to get to and from Sandhills but if you can get even the cheapest Lamborghini Urus for the price of the most expensive Range Rover Sport let me know and I'll be down there like a shot.

I won’t deny that a lot of the season ticket holders i know are very well off and i do get what you mean, but to use the type of cars you see in the car parks as any kind of barometer is a bit silly. They must only have like what, between 1000-2000 spaces there if that? Hardly representative of the demographic in a 55,000 capacity stadium is it.

Gents my earlier comment about tickets going to the wealthy was at no way aimed at the season ticket holders or fans that attend regularly.

I try and get hold of tickets as often as I can which in this day and age is lucky to be anything between 1-4 games a season. However I could actually get tickets for all home games of o was able to afford to pay minimum of 4 times what their face value is and sometimes even 10 times depending on who the opposition is. The year we won the league I think we possibly had Wolves last game of the season and home tickets were being touted for 3k a pop

I spend around £1400 a year on the sport’s channels and LFC merchandise to enable me to follow the reds and feel like I’m doing my bit so if I could get tickets at face value I would snap the hand off.

Football was once owned by the fans but now it’s very much owned by the corporate big wigs.

Re-etihad discussion. The only reason it fills up for prem games is because of the other teams supporters filling up the home end. You can literally get home tickets on their website. Even wowcha. Possibly Just Eat.
Which is why champions league do not fill up, the European away travel not as easy but some still do.

Not many flights from China at the moment so City can't fill their stadium.
