Just a thinker. Who would you want to be for next manager/ coach if/ when Klopp leaves?

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Sep 2021 15:22:06
I like naglesmann and bielsa also conte but think he upsets a lot of people.

21 Sep 2021 15:27:57
Lijnders for me but then I don’t know much about any up and coming managers in the game at the moment.

21 Sep 2021 16:01:55
Tuchel. If he's won 2 leagues, another CL, and Chelsea have sacked him for bad results by then.

21 Sep 2021 17:07:33
Potter. Cracking job he's doing at Brighton.

21 Sep 2021 17:11:59
I'll expect its Pep and I really hope it is, kinda feel like he's being prepared for the role already.

If not him, it'd obviously be great if Gerrard continues to develop over the next few years and gets it.

Let's hope we don't need to think about that for a while though!

{Ed025's Note - benitez?..

21 Sep 2021 17:48:12
Hopefully it’s pep. After klopp signs another contract.

21 Sep 2021 18:07:32
Can I throw my hat into the ring. It will definitely all fall apart in a few weeks but I could retire on the termination payment.

21 Sep 2021 18:42:19
I’d take conte!

21 Sep 2021 18:45:53
Rafa Benitez/ Ancelloti/ Mourinho/ Conte.

21 Sep 2021 18:54:54
Steve Bruce.
Nah can’t even try to keep that one going

Lijnders gets my vote. He’s clearly highly thought of. Comes across well in interviews. Knows the club and system and Klopps legacy is a new Boot Room where we promote from within to keep the understanding and connection with us fans.

21 Sep 2021 18:56:58
We’ve certainly been spoiled with Klopp’s attacking approach and it’s so enjoyable that I want to continue in that vein.
So definitely not Tuchel, whose default formation invariably has a minimum of 5 defensive players.
I can’t wait for his bubble to burst, he’s been so lucky to date.

21 Sep 2021 19:32:56
Conte is a chequebook manager. He’d not come unless there was an open chequebook.

21 Sep 2021 20:04:43
Goes Klopp have a son?

I would presume Stevie or Pep.

21 Sep 2021 20:23:47
Mourinho? Seriously VakPa?
From swashbuckling destructive football to yawn inducing bus parking 10 men behind the ball punt it to the big lump up front?
I'd rather bathe in my own turd.

21 Sep 2021 21:34:47
Bobby Banana funny you should say that. When Walter Smith left Everton a mate of mine who Is a big blue sent in an application with his cv and he got a reply back. He kept the reply in a frame.

21 Sep 2021 22:52:37
Not sure about Benitez. Would he be able to handle the huge jump upwards in quality from his current club ;-)

{Ed0666's Note - Ljinders for me but I fear he’s not cut out to be a #1 but is a world class #2. Saying that I hope he gets the chance of the top job as I feel he’s earnt it

21 Sep 2021 23:40:12
Potter is doing an exceptional job at Brighton so depending on how long Klopp stays he has to be one to be considered.

Nagelsmann is someone I have admired since we played Hoffenheim in CL qualifying a few years ago (TAA free kick anyone? ) . But I suspect he will be at Bayern a good while now.

Simeone Inzaghi has done a great job at Inter but I wonder if his style would translate over here, may have to do quite a lot of adapting.

Gerrard is doing very well at Rangers but I think he would need a challenge outside of Scotland before he should be considered. The signs are very promising though.

If FSG are still around as well then someone like Jesse Marsch could be a possibility.

Ljinders probably the best choice if Klopp were to leave in the next 3-4 years. He knows the club inside out and could continue building on what we already have.

If Klopp stays longer than that then Potter and Gerrard have to be considerations, provided they are still performing.

I hope klopp is enticed by the possibility of developing the younger crop and building the next great team and decides to add a few years to his contract.

If not my choice would be Potter. Clearly not a checkbook manager and growing year on year.

With what klopp is trying to and will shape before he leaves it needs to be a manager prepared to play the same way.

22 Sep 2021 01:58:36
I think the next great team will be here before JK leaves anyway.

Good call by Ed666 about Lijnders being a very good assistant (can’t bring myself to call the fella a world class number 2) but it could be that he develops over the next 2 or 3 years - he seems to being ‘promoted’ into the role for the League Cup / FA Cup over the past 12 months and, to be fair as someone who was around from the 60’s my memories of promoting from with are good.

{Ed0666's Note - you wouldn’t call Ljinders a world class number 2 mate? That surprises me somewhat as he really is a tactical genius with a supreme eye for a player. I know he’s failed as a no 1 in his own right but he’s been a super successful no 2 without a shadow of a doubt. Remember we all thought the world would cave in when The Brain left but it’s testament to Ljinders’ genius that the void wasn’t felt.

22 Sep 2021 02:23:33
Ljinders looks more of a coach and less of a manager to me. Hope he remains involved at the club because he is awesome at what he does.

For 2024, I think tbe timing would be right for Stevie to transition back to the club.

22 Sep 2021 05:47:49
Genuine question. Have there been many successes in football where a number 2 has stepped into the number 1 role?

22 Sep 2021 06:09:36
JK23 Bob Paisley obviously and Tito Vilenova at Barcelona spring to mind. Was Capello number 2 at Milan before getting the top job?

22 Sep 2021 07:12:29
Graham Potter is one to watch although any man stepping in to replace kloppnwill struggle.

22 Sep 2021 09:59:57
Potter is doing a good job and he’s got some good ideas. He knows what he’s doing.

22 Sep 2021 10:38:57
Potter would be my choice, has shown ability from lowest levels up to Brighton, and certainly seems good enough to be tested at the highest level. I think he’d be the most seamless successor if/ when Klopp leaves.

22 Sep 2021 08:22:04
Ed066 is maybe implying that a number 2 is something you do in the loo. world class or not that's something that should be kept private.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not sure ether for be disturbed or laugh out loud?

22 Sep 2021 09:27:58
It was more that ‘number two’ is a euphemism for a certain bodily function Ed0666😉

On a more serious note I totally agree with everything you say about Ljinders.

22 Sep 2021 11:31:57
Ed0666 - I agree with everything you say about Ljinders.

I think he is world class in his current role but ‘number 2’ is often used as a euphemism for a bodily function and I was trying for (what I call) humour in saying that I wouldn’t call him a world class number two.

{Ed0666's Note - maybe you should stick to number 1 ‘s Derby 😂

22 Sep 2021 14:00:51
😁😁

Time to change the subject methinks.

{Ed0666's Note - how did this thread last so long? Clearly toilet humour is popular 😂

I agree tho let’s put an end to this
