Looks like our acquisition strategy for next summer is focussing on players out of contract such as Kessie and Dembele.

Any others, Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in a number of players and lots of interest in Kessie from elsewhere. But the club need to be raising money through sales and as players are aging their needs to be a planned rebuild if Klopp is to leave the team in good shape for who follows him in May 2024.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think any opportunity to make any decent money through sales has long gone.

There’s no money for any type of rebuild and signing the likes of Dembele is a false economy of epic proportions. I’m resigned to us entering a slow decline and Newcastle replacing us in the top four, as we can’t realistically compete and there doesn’t appear to be a plan or strategy in place to do so.

Good grief VVVV, it's not all doom and gloom mate.

We've got some very talented young players coming through and the clubs recruitment of late has been very good.

Try and enjoy what have been some truly exceptional years and don't worry about years down the line, who knows could even end the season with a trophy or two.

12 Oct 2021 23:48:52
Agreed VVV, I don’t see any of the current starting XI being sold between now and the end of their contracts.
FSG, and Liverpool, will look for value for money replacements and hope that they prove somewhere near as successful as this lot have been.
My worry, long term, after Klopp’s departure is that much of the staff around him leave too and a huge re-build becomes necessary, not just on the pitch.
Let’s trust that a template has been learned though.

It’s all over. I don’t know what the clubs plan is so there can’t be any plan. Time to accept we’ll be playing in the Championship soon and we can all become Newcastle supporters.

13 Oct 2021 03:39:12
😁😁😁

We’re doomed Cap’n Mainwaring, doomed. Doomed I tell ye’.

To be fair I can understand the panic, after all this is the first time in the history of the club that any of our players will actually have got older.

On a more serious note I find the lack of faith by ‘fans’ in the group both on and, particularly off, the field and the success they have brought in the past few years to be an absolute disgrace.

Don’t get me wrong the club has made mistakes on and off the field (the super league fiasco, mistakes buying players, perhaps trying to get above market value particularly with finances stretched all around with C.V. when selling players with a limited future at the club) .

But, if you’d asked me on October 6th 2010 when we were all but bankrupt would I take the rebuild of the staff, ground, new training centre and the trophies we had won I would have taken your hand off. We have been going forward for a decade and the gratitude they get is pitiful and deserving of a lot more faith.

YNWA.

The decline bit remains to be seen, a lot would obviously depend on who Klopp’s and Edward’s successors are.
The parallel of Ferguson and David Gill’s double loss to Man Utd is an obvious one, though in our case it looks as if Edward’s replacement will have time to settle in before Klopp goes.
Even at 2014/ 15 prices, your looking at over £100m to replace the front three alone.
Not easy.

12 Oct 2021 22:02:27
Thanks Ed. Any other names in particular that we should keep our eye on that haven’t been mentioned previously?

{Ed002's Note - I think everyone has been discussed.}

13 Oct 2021 08:43:10
Klopp will want to leave the club in great shape. There are 5 transfer windows before he leaves to freshen up the squad. The defence needs very little so it’s not as big a task as it’s looks. Get Salah to sign a new deal and get Elliot back fit and the job seems very manageable.

13 Oct 2021 08:47:24
Bless we develop players coming through out youth system. how much did Stevie G cost the club, or TAA as examples. If Jones pushes on or any of the young lads @ 17 or 18 playing in the U-23’s kick on then we may not need to spend that big, relatively speaking. Not saying it will happen but it is an alternative to the usual ‘we have to spend millions’ to succeed.

Also worth noting, as he has been mentioned in this thread, that the core of Ferguson’s best squad came through their youth system …. just saying.

13 Oct 2021 09:21:19
If we get one of the current crop playing regular for the first team it will be a good achievement. They got smashed by Bolton but a few of them were away. Gordon would be my pick.

13 Oct 2021 10:18:19
If we keep these guys and let them go for a free, can we get some apologies from the haters that FSG only purchase for the purpose of selling for a profit? Lol anyways, I really don't mind about these guys not being sold. Especially because these guys are at the peak of their powers and I'd much rather have them here, whilst developing our youth and making astute purchases along the way. I feel like we have a better chance to transition effectively versus selling players in the hole that the new players just pick up the ball and run.

13 Oct 2021 10:19:29
VVVV come on, man. If you are going to be all doom and gloom at least be serious about it. Newcastle to replace us in the top 4? Really? Come on, man even you don't believe that piece of hilarity.

As for getting free transfers, that is not a bad strategy depending on who you are getting and if you can pay the sign on fees and the wages. PSG literally just did all of that last season and even before then with Ander Herrera. It can be done.

That said, we need to be able to generate money via other revenue streams in addition to selling players. If we keep Salah then that would be our biggest signing for however long he will be here for. We can get replacements for Bobbie and Mane should they leave with Sarr and Raphinha on the cards already. Dembele? Not my cup of tea BUT I'm not the manager.

13 Oct 2021 10:21:16
Why are so many of you so negative? For Christ's sake, we're a team who are thriving, forget the future focus on the here and now. We have youngsters more than ready to take over and come into the starting 11. We are Liverpool, if we need players we will buy them. I don't worry one bit about the future, what will be will be. We will be just fine.

13 Oct 2021 10:48:27
Kelleher, Trent, Gomez, Konate, Elliott, Jones, Jota all 24 or under! that's a left back, midfielder and a coupla forwards away from an 11 that could still be here in ten years time. And that's without the likes of Gordon, Van den Berg and Musialowski coming through. Seriously think this ageing squad lark is over estimated.

13 Oct 2021 11:27:17
Did anybody read the comments attributed to Billy Hogan when they broke the ground on the new development?

The expansion of the facilities and capacity will provide a boost to revenue streams which will benefit us in the transfer market.

It would appear my (and perhaps some others too? ) simplistic idea of ‘sell one, buy one’ might not be entirely accurate. Yet another lesson for me (and perhaps some others too? ) that I shouldn’t worry my head about the allocation of funds for transfers, particularly when I just assign numbers I have made up to potential targets’ value.

13 Oct 2021 11:37:26
It was nice while it lasted though. A league and another European Cup.
Anyway, I plan on dying before Klopp goes and I'll start to bring my lad up as a Newcastle fan.

13 Oct 2021 12:32:21
It is funny to see some of the knee-jerk over-reaction on the boards from some posters (you know who you are, and we know that VVVV is a prime candidate! )

Jadon, good summary, don't forget Tsimikas to fill that LB berth.

People forget that buying a dozen highly priced players every year is not the way to build a dynasty, it's growing the players together and then tweaking year on year that does it - look at Man Utd in the 90s or Chelsea in the 00s, or even Man City in the 10s.

13 Oct 2021 12:48:50
Dear lord the doom and gloom is incredible. The way some of your are talking you would think every single players performances drop like a stone as soon as they hit 30. Too much football manger

Chill out and enjoy the here and now.

13 Oct 2021 13:06:01
Left him out cos he's 25 Zed but yeh, know what ye mean.

13 Oct 2021 13:23:44
". look at Man Utd in the 90s or Chelsea in the 00s, or even Man City in the 10s".

I think that comment sums it up. No team will have sustained success forever, like Real, Barca, PSG etc because we are in the PL, the toughest in the world. It is inevitable that we will drop off at some point whilst we transition to a new team/ manager etc. let's just enjoy the good times whilst they're here and support the team through the trickier times, it's what makes football fun.

13 Oct 2021 15:57:20
I don’t see why a debate can’t be had without it being at the “doom and gloom” or “everything will be fine” ends of the spectrum?
Between 5 - 7 x seriously good performers (maybe Alisson, Virgil, Matip, Henderson, Salah, Mane, Bobby) could leave or retire around the time Klopp is due to finish.
The replacements are going to have be absolutely top quality to properly replace those above.
It doesn’t mean that the universe will implode but any acquisitions between now and then need to be bang on the money, as funds are tight and the trend for transfer fees and wages is still going upwards, particularly with Newcastle being taken over.
It’s a challenge, to say the least, which could be made all the greater if a lot of Klopp’s back-up team leave too.
In effect, it could almost be a complete makeover in Summer 2024?

13 Oct 2021 17:32:23
Juicer, of thos players you've listed, Matip was a free transfer, Hendo was seen as a mistake and not good enough for years, Salah was a 'Chelsea reject' and Bobby was a bit of an unknown to most. My point is, those players are only seriously good now, not necessarily when we bought them. WHo is to say the next one isn't already coming up through the ranks, or will be a free transfer. 2024 is a long time in football, plenty of time.

13 Oct 2021 20:04:40
Good point Stuie, our current left back was signed from Hull when they were relegated for a relatively small amount and is now one of the best in the world in his position.

Building a team isn’t about buying the world’s best player in each position and it certainly isn’t about buying the most expensive player in each position. It’s about building a squad of players who can play to the system (s) that the manager sees as the best way to achieve success, just like the big German lad and his support staff have done. Anyway, bring on Watford and let’s see how we go.

Shout out to @Rigsby - made me laugh out loud mate - brilliant. Start the young ‘un off wth ‘Why aye bonny lad’ 👍👍.

13 Oct 2021 21:21:47
Challenge to those who call out the haters. How about just leave them one and just heap praise on those of us who are lovers!? Lol like a kid having a tantrum, just take away the audience and eventually they will fall in line
✌.

13 Oct 2021 21:52:28
Faithinworks, I think you’re brilliant 😍😘🤣.

13 Oct 2021 22:39:05
brilliant thread. other than "I trust him and who" nobody has come out with an answer on how to raise money.
if you think someone would stump circa £30 mill for Bobby as money raised from sales then God helps you.
