I like Newcastle the city and the Geordies, but I would love it, love it, if they went down this season lol.

They said they wanted to win the league in the next 5 years. They might get chance of winning a league next season. The championship.

My mate's a Mackem and is desperate for the Mags to drop and Sunderland to come up from League 1 so he can rip the sh*t out of them again.

{Ed0666's Note - I bet everyone apart from Newcastle fans want them to go down. I’m trying to imagine Mbappe playing on a cold Wednesday night in stoke.

How long do people think it will take them to,

Get Europa league 4 years

Champions league. 6 years

Win the title 10 years.

Mark, If they go down this season, you can add another 5 years to the time it will take them to win the PL title.

My memory is Chelsea finished 2nd or near that the season before Roman took them. Or at least top six and his first season because it was Ranieri as manager.
I just don’t see unless they can actually spend £500m each window, how they can mirror Chelsea. Aside from being a challenging side, they had London and at the time no rivals for spending.
I understand they can outspend anyone. But unless it’s total mercenary, I don’t see the elite players going there until they’re in the Champions league, won a title or two. Maybe Mbappe would walk there for £1m a week etc. But these guys are already super rich. It’s not 20 years ago when Chelsea could outbid us for Duff or Cole or whoever. Newcastle can double any offer for Mbappe, Harlaand, Fati. But I believe they’d all choose Chelsea, City, Madrid, Bayern, Us? Over them as money isn’t the prime motivation it’s at best joint with status for these types. IMO.

I doubt they will go down as they will spend in Jan.

{Ed0666's Note - there’s no wonder they wanted the takeover done before January.

Grobs, Chelsea were 4th the season before Roman. They beat us on the last day to take it. Still a far cry from Newcastle scraping a PL existence though.

Who they get as manager is a big issue. Don't see Conte, Rodgers or any of the names the media came out with going for it for at least a couple of years until they've actually built themselves into a mid table team and how the new owners operate day to day has been made evident.

I don’t want them to go down. Also I’m sure if they wish to spend £500 million for a couple of transfer windows what punishment will they get regarding ffp? A fine? A transfer embargo? I’m sure the right manager with the right squad could manage a top 4 / league/ champions league tilt for couple of seasons whilst they manufacture a way round punishments.

It takes time to build a winning team. Just spending £500 million every transfer window guarantees nothing apart from better quality players. Man Utd are a prime example.
It's about the right blend of players and the right manager and staff, and that ain't going to happen overnight.
It doesn't matter how much they CAN spend in January, if the the players they need simply aren't available and they don't improve they'll still be potential relegation candidates come the end of the season.

I’d say within five years is achievable, given that it took Man City less than that after they were taken over (taken over in 2008, won the title in 2011/ 12 season), if you have four teams with limitless resources it is going to kill the premier league as a completion as it is unlikely that anyone would be able to break that kind of cartel, that’s just a stone cold fact.
