We’ve seen how much better we’ve been going forward this season now that Firmino is back on the pitch. Maybe giving Robbo and Matip the Jota treatment is what is needed. Tsimikas has been excellent when given a chance and his delivery is a real asset going forward, whereas Robbo’s delivery’s just seem to get worse and worse. I also see no need to persist with an out of form Matip when we have Gomez and Konate chomping at the bit for game time. The midfield was bad again tonight but it has been ravaged by injuries of late so i imagine we’ll look a lot stronger when Fabinho, Thiago, Jones and Elliott are back and playing themselves into form.

Considering all that it was an excellent result and i can’t see why anybody should be complaining, champions league knockouts are all about the results and killing the group early rather than letting uncertainty drag on. Atletico virtually never lose there and i don’t think we were lucky with the refereeing decisions, all were correct on the night bar their offside goal. In european football good teams will give you headaches no matter who you’ve got playing for your side. Proud of the lads for seeing it out and i think Jurgen got his selection and substitutes spot on once again. Only gripe you could have with it would be his persistence with Keita but with the injuries we currently have beggars can’t be choosers! All about getting the job done with the side you can put out midweek and we did that. Just hope we don’t have a hangover for the United game.

No complaints here. Great win. Stuck it up them on their patch and got under Simeone’s skin. Drama, excitement and two wonder goals. One more win and we’re through.

I am in complete agreement with you on Robbo. Tsimikas is on form and should start for me. I have to disagree about Matin. Matin is on form and arguably has been better than VVD. If not better just as good. He did not put a foot wrong tonight and his performance all year is sound. I think its Matip form keeping Kounate out.

Matip has been excellent all season. VVD was poor last night especially when Griezmann ghosted past him for his second goal.
I also thought their penalty should have stood. It was minor contact but the movement of Jotas leg very slightly preceded the strikers movement of impact which suggests to me that there was contact which could have been a foul. Mind you, VAR and a professional referee and a million Reds will probably tell me I’m talking tripe.

Virg is struggling playing 2 games a week because of the knee injury, give him time he’ll be back no
Problem.
We could do with Thiago/ Jones being fit now though through the season because Milner can’t play every 3 days it’s just impossible at his age. I still feel we need to sign someone in there, Henderson is 31 also so we have to be realistic.

Matip has been really good this season and was better than vvd. Front 3 are scoring because both firming and mane have found their form. Ribbo is better defensively than kostas and has klopps trust, though I do agree he deserves more game time.
It was a scruffy game, but that’s what athletico do, is make it a dog fight and hit you with moments of quality. All in all a great result and start to the season. We are scoring lots and playing great football enjoy it while it lasts as klopp will not be here forever!

Also forgot to say their pen was never a penalty, football is a contact sport let’s not forget. If you dived like that in Sunday league would get laughed it, I thought the ref showed a lot of nerve to overturn that decision.
Big shout out to Milner as well, I am going to start drinking ribena for its performance enhancements!

Matip hasn't been great at all recently, Brentford he was very poor. But agree VVD isn't back to his best yet, seems a bit off the pace in most games but only to be expected I guess. Gomez needs a chance to get back into the groove. Midfield needs sorting out otherwise we will fall short in the big competitions. The protection to the defence isn't good enough at the moment.

Sorry to labour the point but what more do people expect from the team? We are a point of first in the PL and the only team that hasn’t lost and having played the teams in 1st and 3rd place, we’ve won 3 out of 3 in the CL and won our League Cup game. In what way is the TEAM not doing well when compared to every other team in Europe?

Struggling to understand what some of our fanbase want here. We are a point off the top of the league, top of our group basically through and into the next round of the cup all while being unbeaten in 21 games in all competitions yet all some want to do is find the negatives. Joel Matip wasnt amazing last night but in quite a few games he has carried VVD so give him a break.

Robbo has played an awful lot of football and hasn't been poor in fact I feel he has been defending a bit more than usual and covering as a full back should. He has 2 assists so far this season which for a full back is a good return.

Firmino, for all the doubters and haters (and people who i genuinely believe do not understand what he brings to the team) has been fantastic so far this season when he has played. The opposition no matter who just don't know who is picking him up and where and is consistently dragging defenders and midfielders from pillar to post, all this while chipping in himself.

Enjoy this lads it won't last forever if some of you think we have problems now just wait a few years until this crop of genuine world class players aren't gracing the anfield pitch anymore

If we remain unbeaten we'll win everything in theory, so I don't understand the logic of that.

Woolback I agree I have been saying it all the time Jota might score more goals than Bobby but the rest of his play is nowhere near Bobby’s standard. I to think Robbo needs a rest. I think Gomez comes in Sunday for his pace against Utd who will be a lot better than they was against Leicester where the gaps in between defence midfield and attack was massive. They will sit back and try to hit us on the break with rashford and greenwood’s pace.
