Big shout out to the team and the officials last night. Didn't buckle under immense pressure :)
Unfortunately some people are only happy with 100% perfection and have been spoiled over the last 2 or 3 years with periods of sustained domination.
How boring would it be if we just rolled every team over by 3 or 4 every game.

Agree4 Disagree0

Wasn't brilliant defensively last night but any win over a DS team I'll take (The man just annoys me) I will say and I've said it alright Robbo needs a rest.

20 Oct 2021 14:32:12
I'm not so fussed about boring if it means we're winning every match easily, but I certainly agree with your sentiment. We weren't at our best and it was far from perfect but an away win against LA LIGA CHAMPIONS (yes, that puts them ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid), who haven't lost a home European match for four years and are a notoriously difficult team to play against.

I'll take the win and not worry too much about anything else, especially as the broader context is that we're on an unbeaten run in all competitions that is our best since the 80s, we're averaging over three goals per match this season and our most recent match before last night was a 5-0 demolition job.

Happy days.

I thought we were bang average all game long in terms of play overall BUT we dug deep and stayed in the game till our chance came and we took it. The penalty for Atleti? I've seen them given BUT I was a clear non call for me cos Jimenez fell over theatrically across Jota to draw the contact. The ref got it right and had the spine to switch his decision and didn't buckle under the abject rants of the Atleti players. Simeone? Not arsed really. He is not obligated to shake hands with anyone even tho, it is a great sporting gesture.

{Ed001's Note - bang average? Seriously? Utter cack. We dominated the Spanish champions for large portions of the game before the sending off and you call that bang average?}

Hey Ed its hard to believe some of the stuff you have to post on here isn't it?
They didn't touch the ball at home for best part of 15 mins 1st half!
What people want/ expect from this team every game is unsustainable.

{Ed001's Note - people are just too busy remembering a few short spells to recall the other 85 minutes of a game. They see what they wanted to see so they could have an excuse to whine like little children who didn't get the toy they wanted. It is pathetic. We were excellent against one of the best sides in Europe and dominated the midfield battle but why let that get in the way of a whinge after we won?}

20 Oct 2021 15:25:19
I remember a couple of years ago, the majority of people would write things like "it was a hard fought, ground out, tough game, but we got the 3 points and that's all that matters". Now so many of us are spoilt, that anything less than a 5-0 mauling, is unacceptable.

And I was wondering. Does one show his/ her knowledge of something (say like the game of football) through criticism or praise? Once you're able to answer that, then you're closer to understanding the agenda behind what is written on here, sometimes.

20 Oct 2021 15:30:37
We're literally averaging 3 goals a game. What are people expecting? 5-0 every game, will that satisfy them. Imagine these guys in the 80's when we lost to some bucket side but still were the best team in England by a country mile.

20 Oct 2021 15:38:41
Im lucky enough to have supported Liverpool since early 80's and can only compare the feeling I get from this present team as the team back in late 80's going into games knowing we will have a real go and that results by and large are going to be positive. Proud of the attacking style and flair knowing g that rival fans are green with envy at what we have. c'mon guys enjoy what you are witnessing as it won't last forever!

20 Oct 2021 15:39:31
Jonesy, we had 83% possession for the first 15-20 minutes, and for the entire first half, Atletico made 160 passes (which is feeble at best, for 45 minutes) . Possession is not everything, but it indicates who is controlling the game and the rhythm. We were that dominant.

It just seems sometimes, on here, that there is just as much an anti-red filter as there is a pro-red filter.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not sure how convincing and dominant a performance that was. Everyone has their own perception and perspective and I appreciate that. We were getting undone by long balls and Alison had at least 3 occasions when he had to bail us out via one on ones with the keeper for me that doesn't constitute domination but as I say it’s all subjective

20 Oct 2021 16:00:16
The last two times we played them they out fought and out thought us. This time Klopp got Simeone’s shortcomings and showed him up for his one dimensional tactics. Thoroughly enjoyed that game. Even at 2-2 I thought we could sneak a win. And I would have taken a 2-2 draw away from home as a good result even before kick off. The fact we did better was all down to our discipline in the second half and their lack of discipline.

20 Oct 2021 16:18:31
I got to be honest, some of the posts make me wonder if they have watched any of the game at all.

Before the game, if you had offered me a draw I would have taken it. Discounting our current form, they are Spanish champions, at home, with a negative style that is hard to break down. Typically the style we drop points against. Added to that, they have to be the dirtiest team around these days, every 3 passes we have they make a foul. Any touch on them, they dive. So I never expected it to be free flowing football as it’s almost impossible to play that against them.

To go there, and get an ugly win, I’m made up. Showed some bottle when it was against us, wasn’t intimidated, great result. Did exactly what we needed to do and are going to win a damm tough group with games to spare.

Any winning season is made up of memorable games along the way, think we saw one last night for sure. Bring on the mancs Sunday.

YNWA.

I fully agree with you ed0666. Allison was motm and by a distance. We won which of course is the most important thing but we were far from excellent.

{Ed0666's Note - I don’t think we were either but as I say it’s all perception and perspective

20 Oct 2021 16:51:47
For all those whining about last night's performance, I'd ask them to pick out one game while Simeone has been manager where Atleti have been outplayed and hammered like we did to Watford at the weekend.
Good luck hunting for that.
That is the measure of what we did last night.
Glorious free flowing football? Of course it wasn't.
We won, deservedly at that.

{Ed0666's Note - nobody’s saying it wasn’t an incredible result mate. I think it wasn’t the Watford performance obviously but as you say this is Diego’s Atleti not been beaten at home in 4 years with Simeone whipping up the crowd at every opportunity and the histrionics of Trippier et al to win in those circumstances was a splendid result. We can’t win sexy all the time. For me I’d rather have a trophy then play well.

20 Oct 2021 17:29:16
Can’t everyone just have their own opinion on the game regardless of whether people thought it was a great performance or not. It’s like loose women on here sometimes.

{Ed0666's Note - I wish there were some loose women on here.

20 Oct 2021 17:31:00
Spot on Ed. Possibly one of our best away from home CL results in Klopp's tenure. I'd like to see how either Manc club would fare there. Imagine the snorefest it would be with Tuchel's Chelsea?

{Ed001's Note - exactly Flash. People don't realise how lucky they are right now.}

20 Oct 2021 18:53:38
You watch Loose Women JK23?

20 Oct 2021 19:10:58
No Irish, I think he just likes loose women. Which is fair enough really.

20 Oct 2021 19:12:09
Only on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mate. My Thursdays are tied up with reruns of Jim’ll Fix it.

20 Oct 2021 19:23:03
Ed01, I didn’t think we dominated them. What struck me was that after Naby scored, AM did not look panicked nor did they lose their heads. In fact, those goals was the wake up call they needed to start actually playing footie and when they did, we couldn’t live with them in that first half at times, IMO. They just let us come on to them and as soon as we lost it, they were off. Simple game plan yet we couldn’t figure it out.

I mean AB1 had to bail us out a couple of times in that first half due to the gaps we were leaving behind whenever we lost possession and where it not for him, it’s 4-2 going into half time.

In the second half, we offered very little threat going forward even after the sending off while AB1 had to come out and smother Carrasco or he could have scored again. I know we showed fight and heart to stay in the game and not get lost in the manufactured chaos but to say we dominated them is a stretch, IMO. Just my opinion and you are free to disagree. Cheers, mate.

{Ed001's Note - I do disagree. Completely.}

20 Oct 2021 19:38:22
Spot on Ed66 mate as I said it was fantastic results but a lot of stuff for us to learn from.

They were consistently opening us with long balls despite being one man down that's not a good sign coz will have tougher challenges if we want to win this competition.

20 Oct 2021 20:46:40
For context. United are getting their arses handed to them at home by Atalanta. Last night was a great result.

{Ed0666's Note - P45 for OFS Monday morning?

20 Oct 2021 21:10:11
Hi guys.
Just my 2 pence worth…
I thought first 20 mins we were outstanding.
Then lack of concentration? We let them back into the game.
The Red card of their most affective player made life a lot easier.
If he had stayed on the pitch I really think it could of gone either way.
However a win against a team that has put us to the sword in the last couple of encounters, is worthy of a celebration.
I don’t mind how we win…. As long as we Win.
Long may it continue enjoy the good times.
