I agree with a previous poster that we are conceding too many. I also have a question for the Eds. our chance conversion rate over the last 1.5 seasons seems to be low, do you know how it compares to other top teams in the EPL?
It also seems that we in most cases dominate games in terms of possession but don't seem to be able to convert this into goals (in some games) what is everyone's views on why this is happening and how we could address this.

Nobody seems to take responsibility at the back. our RCB area has been a problem for years. It's not a coincidence teams usually target that area.
As for goals. our midfielders don't chip in with goals meaning we rely heavily on salah and when he is kept quiet we usually don't score much.

Agree WDW but if this thing with Trent being in the middle of the pitch is an instruction from the coaching staff then a quicker right sided CB is needed vs players like Antonio. Not a criticism of Matip just an observation that he hasn't Joe's recovery pace for example. Hit the reset button and go again after the international break.

Spot on, Ed01 regarding the whole xG thingy. I have no idea what that means and neither am I bothered about it cos as you say, it is a stat you can use to fit whatever rhetoric you want to put out. It is useless and not worth even pointing out, IMO.

Now back to the game, it was a complete ship show from top to bottom. It looked like we were not up for it at all and that first goal off the corner is lamentable. IMO, how is it possible that we allow two WH players to crowd Ali and nobody saw it as a problem? I know Ali should have done way better than he did BUT if Klopp has to go on the pitch to tell the players to mark Antoni and Ogbonna then, we have bigger problems than just our first loss in 25 games in all comps.

I am no expert on xg but the point still stands, we dominate games in terms of possession and in some games like Utd or Watford we win comfortably but in others we struggle to score. The defensive issues clearly need addressing but with the number of chances we seem to create should we not be scoring more?

We’ve needed a goal scoring CF for 2 years mate. We’re not getting one so we have to go with what we have.

LFC08, we are the leading scorers in all comps. among PL teams with 47 goals in 16 games BUT whatever, I guess. Now the second sentence in your post, I fully agree with.

We are conceding too many. We look like the team of 3/ 4 seasons ago, not the team of 2 seasons ago.
I'm not that pessimistic though because we are scoring goals.
One thing I don't get is, fans that say Mane is back to his best of 3/ 4 seasons ago. He's not. Add to that Firmino being so inconsistent, maybe we have to be more cavalier to win games.

Maybe it's time to try out the VVD Gomez partnership once again? Unless Gomez is showing something in training that Klopp does not like at all? Matip seems to have some really great, solid days at times. And then he'll get caught out behind by long balls at other times and you wonder why he is so freaking high up the field?

Personally I think a few posts are plain daft. It’s laughable people complaining about our attackers.

It’s terms of the defensive issues. This could still be a hangover from last season. The back four have to adapt to each other’s games again. I do think Klopp may be over compensating too by rotating the CB pairings, think he needs to settle on a partnership and stick to it. This would create a better partnership and maybe calm Allison down a little bit.

All in all, we can’t lose over one loss. Even great teams have off days. Reset over international break and go again!

Teams target our RCB area because we have VVD in the LCB area, VVD is arguably the worlds greatest defender so regardless of who plays at RCB they are the ones who are going to get the brunt of it every single game.

Don’t get your hopes up for January, Lancaster Red. We’re unlikely to make any moves and the only players we’ve been apparently sniffing around are Sanches and Traore as they might be cheap. Don’t expect any quality players coming in as it’s not happening.
