If you think about Carragher's (supposed) latest comments about being "close to winning the title a few times if not for 2-3 failure signings" and "if we had Alisson, VVD and Salah, we would have crossed the line", (implying his managers routinely bought the wrong players) ; you ask yourself "what's wrong with this guy"?

First he sh*ts on previous teammates and managers, and then he is openly jealous about the current team. Maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but how hard is it to keep shut if you don't have anything nice to say about someone; especially people you worked with for years and years?

Really? He was at the club, you weren't. He was a professional footballer, you weren't. What more do you know than him about how the club conducted itself and how his opinion is not viable considering he was at the epicentre of all that went on?
I would be jealous if I had to play with shi*e like Dundee, Kromkamp, Aquilani, Aspas, Borini, Carroll, Cheyrou, Diomede, Diouf, Jovanovic, Konchesky, Assaidi, Ferri, Gonzalez, Xavier, Lambert, Adam, Leto, Pellegrino, Kyrgiakos, Le Tallec, Coates, Poulsen, Degen, Cissokho, Josemi, Zeige, Kippe, Diarra, Diao, Vignal, Biscan, Barmby, Sinama Pongolle, Paletta, Plessis, El Zhar, NGog.

OP, the guy seems to always point to this or that reason as to why the teams he was on never won the title instead of just accepting that we weren't good enuff at the time and that's it.

I know He feels bad about not winning it and that is fine and I empathise BUT he won near every other trophy there was to win in football and to me, he should just let it go co players play a 15 yr career and win nothing BUT I guess making this or that excuse keeps him happy.

12 Nov 2021 17:40:14
I'm fairly sure Carragher has said multiple times that the reason he never won a league title is that ultimately the team wasn't good enough, but there are reasons why that is the case and one of them is major failures in the transfer market.
Carragher finished second twice as a Liverpool player, the first time the club chose not to sign Anelka and spent £20m on Diouf, Diao and Cheyrou. The second time the club sold Alonso and Arbeloa and replaced them with Aquilani and Glen Johnson.
He's only saying what ever single Liverpool supporter knows, the transfer failures in the summer of 2002 in particular were a massive disaster.

12 Nov 2021 17:46:59
Obviously you will never win a title if you are an expert in scoring own goals instead of defending your own post.

12 Nov 2021 18:43:38
Carragher is 100% right and the Anelka situation was the end of Houllier along with the fact he bought Diouf and sold GOD and relied on an out of form Heskey. Rafa should have won it with a midfield of Masch, Alonso and Gerrard but failed to purchase good wide players which cost us and he bought too many players instead of buying fewer better quality players. Shame. Both would probably say though that they didn't have the opportunity to buy the most expensive players at the time like Klopp did with the Coutinho money. Of course money and expensive transfers is needed most of the time to win the title. Not sure when we will win it again.

12 Nov 2021 19:07:01
He's entitled to an opinion just like anyone else, and at least he's honest. In terms of "making excuses, we just weren't good enough", yeah obviously but that has to be for a reason, such as signing the wrong players or being a couple of players short in key positions or a negative approach in certain matches (2008 too many draws), it's not unreasonable to point these (to quote Rafa) facts out. If he's asked why he's never won a league should he not answer, in fact he's paid to give his opinion and be honest.

12 Nov 2021 19:21:56
Why does anybody give any credence to what Carragher has to say? The contrived “banter” with Neville to the spitting incident. Mute button fodder.

12 Nov 2021 20:09:55
Not much wrong with Carragher's comment. Pretty much spot on for me.

12 Nov 2021 21:42:42
Find it hard to believe that people are up in arms over Carragher speaking the simple truth. He's not slagging anyone off, he's just put it as it is.

12 Nov 2021 21:55:28
And he'd be 100% right with what he said. Ask Gerrard the same question and you'd get the same answer.

12 Nov 2021 23:04:50
Bakedbeanboy. I wasn't talking about whether what he was saying had any validity. It probably was very valid. My point was why talk about it now, especially if it's a negative.

But since you've put in considerable effort in researching, naming and dragging more ex-players through the mud, here's a "Bravo, well done". You embody the "YNWA" spirit the club wants in its supporters. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Oh, and ah, I support the club since 48 years, but never been to a live game at Anfield or any Liverpool game, for that matter. So I can't comment or make an observation, is it? I suppose you saw every single game and were a professional footballer yourself, to be able to name all those players as not good enough also? Think beyond your nose, in anticipation of what might come back at you.

12 Nov 2021 23:13:31
What do you want him to say? Antonio nunez was world class? He's right some of the signings were absolutely awful and we were lucky to even finish close to the top with some of them.

12 Nov 2021 23:18:51
I would never read or listen to anything those two have to say. The spitting ended whatever esteem he previously held. Should have been roundly sacked and placed on the scrap heap.

13 Nov 2021 09:06:50
The irony is that if Liverpool had a VVD, carragher would have not got in the team.

13 Nov 2021 09:37:14
Spitting? Get over yourselves!
Firmino chose to get in a car drunk and take it for a drive potentially putting peoples lives at risk, yet you still worship the bloke.
Carragher spat at someone!
Which is worse? I honestly want to know.

13 Nov 2021 09:50:31
Ironic that someone is giving their opinion by slagging off Carrafmgher for giving his opinion.

13 Nov 2021 10:14:37
Pegleg- I think you’re twisting the discussion to suit your own narrative. What exactly has Firmino got to do with it? Yes he was a complete jerk and a disgrace for doing what he did but seriously are you trying to excuse what Carragher did by saying “well somebody else did this”?
Are you forgetting that he spat in the direction of a kid?
If that’s how he reacts to “banter” it’s a wonder Neville is not coated in Phlegm every week.

13 Nov 2021 10:43:57
Stuie, no one is slagging him off or at least I’m not. He has been saying the same things for years now and IMO, it is getting old and yeah, sounds like making excuses after banging on the same thing all the time. He talks about had we signed VVD, Ali or this or that player we would have won the title.

A. Nobody knows that.
B) Way to go throwing his team mates who played in those positions, saying they weren’t good enuff. Class move.
C) oh and had VVD signed, Carra would have been a bench warmer, as Bobby Banana said.

You prolly want to read carefully into what he is saying and the ramifications on his ex team mates he’s digging out in the B comment before you lecture the rest of us cos we had the timerity to challenge his opinion.

Carra won a boatload of trophies with us in fact, near every trophy in football and some of them, twice over. It’s okay, man. Banging on the same thing makes him sound bitter and full of excuses, IMO. There’s a reason Klopp doesn’t talk about things he couldn’t win. He’s happy with what he HAS won. Let it go, Carra.

13 Nov 2021 12:35:14
This thread is bemusing. Doctor Strange has said exactly what I would. What is he supposed to do in the situation? Say we were good enough and was just bad luck we didn't win everything? Be a martyr and say it was all his fault as he simply wasn't good enough? Is it bitter and unreasonable to say if we didn't have so many injuries last season we would have had a better chance of winning the league or if we had deeper squad depth this and last season we would have a better chance of winning the league? Or if Man United had a better manager they would have a better chance of winning the league? I don't really understand the logic throughout.

13 Nov 2021 18:44:37
Carragher never played with Aspas, Cissokho or Lambert.

14 Nov 2021 17:17:14
If’s sand but’s mean nothing. You play the hand date deals you and get on with it. Carra needs to let it go or he will continue to sound bitter and keep pointing fingers, like he is doing now.

"If you think about Carragher's (supposed) latest comments about being "close to winning the title a few times if not for 2-3 failure signings" and "if we had Alisson, VVD and Salah, we would have crossed the line", (implying his managers routinely bought the wrong players) ; you ask yourself "what's wrong with this guy"? "

If we had better players, we would've possibly won the title - he was implying his manager's bought wrong players, because they did - wrong attitude; poor quality; inability to gel; poor discipline whatever. The ones I mentioned were shi*e for us. (I know he never played with Aspas, Lambert or Cissokho - don't pick holes, I was illustrating that rodgers bought shi*e too - a manager's do to some degree, but the good ones were few and far between for Houllier, Benitez, Hodgson and Rodgers - even Kenny and Klopp.

I have supported LFC for 46 years, yes, I've been to plenty of matches, no I've never been a pro footie player. Like you, Carragher was offering his opinion, he did this because he was asked a question by Neville about his thoughts as to why LFC didn't get over the line. He spoke about it honestly, why does he have to hold his tongue? he doesn't work for LFC, he probably didn't like some of those players who didn't give their all in a team - if you listen to the rest of the interview, he talks about his dedication - that was clear to see when he played. He may not have had the ability of some, but at least he put a shift in.

I can name all those players, because they stood out as utter fuc*ing shi*e and I have a good memory.
I don't even know what your last comment means.

Carragher has a considerably more educated opinion than any of us about why we didn't win the league and he gave it. If you don't like him for spitting, get over yourself.

"But since you've put in considerable effort in researching, naming and dragging more ex-players through the mud, here's a "Bravo, well done". "

I haven't dragged anyone through the mud, they did that themselves.

"You embody the "YNWA" spirit the club wants in its supporters. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼"
I think I do, yes, like every time I go the match to support the team, something you've never done, like you said.
