Morning Ed002,

How all is well? As the football rumours jet setter, where will you be spending your time at Christmas this year?

I have a question, I saw you mention we need to sell in order to buy, which we've known for a while but I also read we have large debts, would you mind explaining the debt situation and where it sits with us buying players and FFP?

Cheers
Drogie.

{Ed002's Note - Ho Drogie. Right now I plan to spend Christmas in Cornwall. The debt reported at the end of the 19/20 season was around £240M with about £70M of that owed to FSG. The rest is borrowing much of it secured against the assets (the stadium and other properties the club has. There is no FFP issue at this time.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What is the interest payment on £240m or £170m if FSG aren't charging any interest? Are you expecting the debt to be worse come 20/ 21 year end and would you care to put a figure on it? Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - There is more than one loan and so interest rates will vary. At a guess, losses could increase to something between £80M and £100M for 20/21.}

Is there cause for concern Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - In what respect?}

As long as we're able to fill Anfield and keep the team on a winning trajectory the finances should improve.
But it won't happen overnight, and the whole recovery process will take a serious dent if there's another lockdown scenario.

20 Nov 2021 14:49:30
we have a £200mill debt Flash. what are you talking about filling the stadium? goodness me.

20 Nov 2021 14:55:31
Clearly you have a problem reading posts Keita?

20 Nov 2021 15:07:42
No Irish

Let me sum up for you. The club will need a huge cash influx and merely filling the stadium won't be enough. Plus this is after we are heading for a major rebuild without a penny in hand. What exactly are you not getting here mate?

20 Nov 2021 15:55:46
Where's that huge cash influx coming from? Santa maybe?
A cash influx is a pipe dream. The harsh reality is that there is no oil rich sugar daddy waiting to pump billions into the club if FSG don't want to sell, and clearly they don't. They may be open to further investments from folks wanting to buy into the club, but it will be on a limited basis as they want to retain majority control.
So all that's left is the revenue streams we already have.
You're talking about what you want to see KS, I'm talking about reality.

20 Nov 2021 16:05:51
The reality is that because we can’t afford to spend to keep up, the inevitable result of that is going to be that we will fall behind and enter a period of decline.

And if our finances are bad now, how bad will they be when we don’t make the champions league and finish outside the top four? What with Newcastle’s new found riches I would say that once we fall outside the top four and they break though, we are unlikely to get back in again if we’re flat broke.

20 Nov 2021 16:33:31
We weren't in the CL when Klopp came VVVV. We spent big and also managed 2 seasons with a combined circa £170 million pre tax profit i believe. that's with buying quality players. I think this seasons financial report will read quite well.

20 Nov 2021 17:43:21
Problem is Irish, we’ll have a lot of players approaching their thirties and no money to bring in suitable quality replacements, we got lucky by being able to flog Coutinho for big money allowing us to bring in top players, but there’s no one in our squad of that equivalence that we can sell to bring that kind of money again and frankly speaking we simply cannot compete with City, United, Chelsea and now Newcastle, on a financial basis.

Money talks, BS walks unfortunately. How far we’ve fallen in such a short time is shown by our transfer targets, we’re seriously considering third rate dross like Traore and Sanches, while our rivals are looking at the likes of Haaland, Chiesa, Mbappe et al.

20 Nov 2021 18:27:14
Klopp has had the hots for Traore for a few seasons now, long before C.V. struck and the sh#t hit the fan VVVV. I don't think that is much to do with lack of finance, just some sort of man crush, it might be the baby oil 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤣.

20 Nov 2021 22:28:35
We'll welcome the winners money from this seasons Champions league.

21 Nov 2021 09:44:43
How about Elliot, Jones, Gordon, Morton, Bradley, Beck, Konate, Kelleher, Pitulagi, TAA, Gomez etc being the basis for the future.

Perhaps rather than playing Premier League Manager we trust the club to base the future on the young talent from within? Just a thought.

21 Nov 2021 12:54:17
So unless there isn’t some sort of cash injection we can’t buy anyone. Sell to buy is only good if you sell the fringe which we can’t. Selling first teamers would take us back to stonage.
So all the “how FSG saved us form administration” leads to huge debt 😆.
