Got to say i will miss Ole he didn’t get enough time 3 years in football is nothing. He should of been given a lifetime contract.

It’s ok though as the Man U board are even more inept than ole so they will no doubt publicly Chase someone who doesn’t want it and settle on fourth choice.

Oh to be a Man Utd fan….

Agree5 Disagree0

Well, Zidane has said no (he's a smart man - only an idiot boards a sinking ship) and all eyes are now on Pochettino. I doubt PSG will let him go without extracting their pound of flesh.

The ideal thing to do is write the season off and first wait for a new Director of football to come in end of December when Woodward leaves. Then leave it to the new director to bring in a new coach and plan all the sweeping away of excess baggage (Pogba, Fred, Martial etc) . In the meantime let Fletcher and Carrick carry on for the rest of the year. And of course, be so impressed with their work that they are handed permanent 5 year contracts. I love it when certain types of history repeats itself.

Looking forward to seeing how the V man turns this into a moan about Traore, Dembele or AFCON.

22 Nov 2021 09:07:29
I agree Andy - I too am greatly saddened by the sacking of Ole.

I have really enjoyed watching United this year! 😜😀.

22 Nov 2021 10:00:56
Honestly none of those names worry me.

Zidane was gifted a world class Madrid team and everyone thinks he's the worlds finest, plus I read somewhere he doesn't speak good English?

Pochettino overachieved at Tottenham and has hardly set the world alight, with the insanely talented squad that he has at PSG.

Rodgers is a complete bottle job.

Don't get me wrong, they'd all improve United compared to what Ole did, but I don't think they'd be competing with us, City and Chelsea.

Maybe if they went for Erik ten Hag or Julian Nagelsmann I'd be worried.

22 Nov 2021 11:13:54
Hope they get Poch, he failed to heal a broken dressing room before and left Spurs after helping Liverpool overtake them.

22 Nov 2021 11:32:31
That club is a total mess from top to bottom.
You would either have to be stupid or being given a ridiculous contract to want to be a manager there right now.
I can only imagine they are going to have a long period of slow decline, they might have the odd success because they are still a massive club with massive resources but yeah a long slow death awaits.

{Ed014's Note - their squad is nowhere near good enough to compete with the current top 3.

They’ll be mucking about with us and the rest of the also rans further down the pecking order!

22 Nov 2021 11:54:22
I disagree Mikey - United have good resources financially as well as still being a big draw for foreign players in terms of history and name.
I do think the next appointment is very important for them though and there is definitely a limited amount of world class managers available. If you head over to the United page, Ed002 (think it was 002, could have been 001) gave some thoughts on what he thinks would be a good route for them to take i. e. getting in a DoF to oversee the footballing side of thing and appointment of a new manager whilst getting rid of the Fergie era staff and moving away from Fergie himself.

Whilst they will definitely take time to rebuild, a few key appointments will see them back in it no doubt.

ED014, I thought I was the only one who thought this regarding Utd's squad. Their squad is poor overall cos it lacks balance, their back line is crap, their midfield as well (anyone starting a McDonald's value meal in MacFred, is not troubling me any time soon) and their attack is full of "stars" with supremely overrated players ho severely underachieve in Sancho and esp. Martial and the semi-pensionaire in the no. 7 shirt.

They don't have a team, a system, a collective that can really put fear in teams. Watford bodied them and threw players forward cos they ain't scared of them. They don't respect them and they definitely did not respect the pensionaire upfront. Their fans have deluded themselves into believing the crap they are fed about how good their squad is. It's not. The squad is crap overall and wouldn't scare a teething kitten. Just my opinion.

{Ed014's Note - I’m with you 100% Oli. I just don’t get the hype and that’s exactly what it is, hype.

They have continually over rated players from the young lad Januzaj who was going to be the next Ronaldo, they did it with Zaha, Depay and even Fred who was allegedly 3 times the player Fabinho is.

It’s like Varane as he has a load of medals he’s world class! Really, not in the same league as VVD or Dias.

Shaw is an average winger at best, AWB one on one ideal, Maguire, is it even worth commenting!

So it goes on, I think about 5 of their players have some genuine quality and that’s it. The squad has no longevity at all either.

The best thing about Ronaldo is he wanted to go to City, when the told his agent no thanks it was suddenly “This one’s for you Sir Alex” yeah of course it is. What a twonk!

22 Nov 2021 14:05:54
That’s the thing Stuie boy, the club won’t make the right appointments, they will make the wrong ones because nobody at the club making decisions knows what they are doing. The owners don’t seem to care about success on the pitch either.

22 Nov 2021 14:26:12
That we can agree on Mikey. The people in charge at the top don't have a clue.

22 Nov 2021 14:45:53
For me Oli has achieved one thing at UTD and that is helping assemble the worlds most overrated squad.

Don’t get me wrong they don’t have bad players but the amount of their players that have been called world class over time is laughable.

De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, Wan Bissaka, Pogba, Fernandes, Rashford, Greenwood and Sancho have all been described as world class by pundits or fans at some point.

Then you have the players that they have massively overpaid for Martial, Fred, Bailey, lindelof, telles etc.

22 Nov 2021 15:10:10
JK23, I take HUGE offence in you associating me in anyway, with literally The GREATEST (insert chuckles here) Utd Manager since Fergie. I don't like that in the least bit, lol.

22 Nov 2021 15:59:26
To be fair JK, De Gea was probably the only one who was 'world class' at some point. He had a few years as the best keeper in the world then went downhill quite quickly.

22 Nov 2021 14:39:59
Spot on, Ed and don't even get me started on Maguire. I have never seen such a dire English footballer get as protection from the media than this guy for his atrocious mistakes/ displays. I remember Lovren would make a mistake and people would talk about it for months if not years after whereas Maguire makes multiple mistakes in each game every week and all i hear are either crickets or excuses or "He has to be better/ stronger there" rubbish. Goes to show how biased the media is. N btw, I would take Lovs all day over that overrated, overpaid fridge of a footballer.

Varane? Pls, the guy is washed and had he not had Ramos in his prime next to him, who knows how awful he would have been cos his last good season was in 2016, IMO. Shaw? The guy can't even run anymore cos those MacDonalds kilos are starting to slow him down in the gut area. The love handles in the gut area on that guy are the stuff of legends. I wouldn't touch any of their players EXCEPT Greenwood who is pure talent who just needs great coaching and guidance, IMO.

As for Fergie, how ironic that the guy who built the modern day Utd, is the one who hugely contributed to tearing it down cos he just couldn't put his humongous ego aside for the sake of the very club he claims to love? Priceless!

{Ed014's Note - no argument from me on any of that Oli, I said the other week that Fergie isn’t helping their cause, it didn’t go down well but he’s 100% not.

22 Nov 2021 16:22:56
Oli 🤣🤣

Stuie in fairness I did actually think that mate when I wrote it. I’ll be honest I think De Gea was a world class shot stopper at one point (a lot with his legs) but not sure if he was world class in all other goal keeping aspects. I’m pretty sure Jeremy Beadle handled crosses better than him.

22 Nov 2021 19:15:42
The right manager (and staff) would sort that squad out and get something resembling a football team out of them. A couple of astute purchases and they wouldn't be far off.
The problem United have is the right manager for them is probably unavailable right now.
So it's either go with another interim guy until Mr Right becomes available or take another punt on another hopeful name.
It's been a great ride with Ole at the wheel, It's like a reverse of the frustration of the 90s for me. But eventually they'll get someone who can put their massive resources to good use and get them back challenging.

22 Nov 2021 20:09:45
I agree FTR, it should be a top 4 squad.
A lot of their success was down to Fernandes though, and it’s surely no coincidence that their misfortune comes with his loss of form?
He missed a really good chance at Watford to bring it back to 2-2, and on those fine margins can a manager’s career be decided.
I actually feel sorry for Solskjaer, he seems a really decent guy that loves Man Utd.
The players have let him down there.

23 Nov 2021 02:44:06
United’s problem since the departure of Ferguson (and long may it be so) is that the managers they have brought in have generally bought individuals rather than players to build a squad.

Variance and particularly Ronaldo were a present from the Glazers to try and make up for the Super League fiasco - they bought what they viewed as the icing on the cake without having the cake.

God knows what van de Beek and Sancho career’s are going to turn out like unless something drastic happens - such a waste of talent / potential.

I disagree that a good manager will sort them out - it’s too late for most of the squad and a sensible manager backed by a board that stops sticking its oar in will still require a good while to address the issues. Seems Poch will get the job which will be interesting to watch. Shame it’s not Brendan, he wouldn’t have helped them at all but it would have been fun as a Liverpool fan to watch.
