Has anyone thought that we are going to burn trent into the ground?, he is 22 and played over 200 games as brilliant as he is he will benefit from the odd rest same with robbo but thankfully we have tsimikas, neco Williams should be given more gametime the lad showing he has improved an trent will benefit .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree we should be able to rotate but he’s no competition or anyone near good enough to play there.

02 Jan 2022 20:11:07
200 appearances over 6 seasons is hardly anything to worry about is it? Salah has more appearances over a shorter time.

02 Jan 2022 20:24:52
Very true I am asking the opinion on it so I appreciate that, he is a young lad so should be fit too play the majority of games, but it won't just benefit him but the first 11 also look wat tsimikas has done for robbo he looks like man possessed now, it would be nice to have a more solid but less expansive option to call on if we need to be defensive in certain games and can avoid being predictable, trent would be hungrier and more focused with other options.

I agree that he needs competitive back up but I think its got to come from within the club i. e Williams/ Bradley or some other youngster. There is no point in spending money on a player to back him up in my opinion as Trent will always be north of 40 appearances injury permitting every season.

02 Jan 2022 21:02:27
Yes from within the club would be perfect, I honestly don't see why we don't trust neco Williams a bit more, plus he is not progressing if not playing .

02 Jan 2022 21:11:01
OMM I disagree. City proves that if you have expensive quality back ups for every position you win more trophies. The problem we have is that we can’t afford it. But given the choice I’m pretty sure Klopp would buy them.

02 Jan 2022 21:50:05
Can't disagree 1jj but given our finances spending money on a back up RB is not going to happen. There's no point comparing us with City either, they're operating on a different stratosphere to us.

02 Jan 2022 22:48:39
1j, I think the point is that if you identify talent at a young age and bring it through a trusted system that prepares it to make the step into senior football then you don’t need t consistently spend billions on a second or third choice left back.

This discussion started about TAA - how much did we pay for him? Likewise how much did we pay for Joe Gomez or Billy Elliot (still like that Ed0666). Peanuts relatively speaking. If you look at some of the lads who’ve played this year for us - Neco, Bradley, Morton, Blair, Jones, and young Billy …. If just 3 of them make the grade from the group listed plus some of the other young lads it will save us literally millions,

As has been said we can’t follow the City / Newcastle model. But if we play our cards right and adopt a similar approach to Chelsea with regards to youth development at least that might be a benefit to us until the richest being on Mars decides to buy us.

What Newcastle model? Donna Air?
They're going to struggle to attract the likes of Jesse Lingard.
There is no Newcastle model, at the moment.

02 Jan 2022 23:14:55
I'd be more concerned of he had a) peaked young like Owen or b) was a douche.

But he seems to be still developing and have a good head on his his shoulders.

It’ll be two or three years Rigsby, but watch when the win one of the minor trophies - success breeds interest in those who play for money, which breeds more trophies, which breeds the interest of more money grabbers and so the circle goes.

03 Jan 2022 11:36:39
But you're saying we can't compete with the Newcastle model, WDW.
You say in two or three years they will win a minor trophy and start to attract mercenaries.
We are a top four side, still in the Champions League, in the semis of a minor cup and still in the other. We've got players like Alisson, TTA, van Dijk and Salah and they're being linked to Trippier. They could be in the Championship next season.
To say we can't compete with the Newcastle model, now or in two or three years, is pushing it, mate.

03 Jan 2022 12:27:40
Sorry Rigsby, I was being forward looking.

We can’t compete with a model that entails almost inexhaustible transfer revenue which City seem to have and which Newcastle will have when the dust has settled on this season and they have a plan in place for the future.

What I was / am sating is that we don’t necessarily have to aspire to that model and that now, and in the foreseeable future we won’t have it anyway si there is no point tearing our hair out about the top end mega transfers. We do, however, look like we are starting to make positive progress by promoting from within, which is a good thing in that we will have lads who have emotional investment in the club and who won’t involve massively hyped transfer fees in a market increasingly driven by obscenely wealthy owners and grasping avaricious agents, working on behalf of equally grasping players) .
