Mixed feelings about the game. If we’d taken one more of our big chances we’d have won. However the lack of control in midfield and general intensity off the ball is concerning.

The fact that Milly was chosen over Ox Keita is a sad indictment of Klopp’s trust in them for a game of this magnitude.

The less I say about Hendo in this new more advanced no8 role the better. The blame does not solely lie with Hendo though.

Fabinho and Virgil were terrible too. Will chalk it off as C.V. for this one.

I know it’s hard to do business in January but we’re crying out for a midfielder and forward. Is there anything that can be done in this window at all or am I wasting my breath?

Without being too reactionary to yesterdays result and AFCON, could we convince Olympiakos to part with Aguibou Camara and Gladbach with Denis Zakaria in this window?

On the plus side, Kelleher was excellent despite the defenders doing their best to limit his passing options.

What do we convince them with? Buttons?

Pretty sure its been said before that Lille are interested in Aguibou Camara. Not sure how true that is but if it does they would most likely then sell Renato Sanches. Ed said before I think that it would be a struggle for him to get a work permit but there are other solutions. Personally think Sergej Milinković-Savić could be a good option but not sure if we're interested as of this time.

We can’t afford Milinković-Savić. Simple as.

Aguibou Camara will be at the AFCON and I doubt we could afford Zakaria either, regardless of him being out of contract in the summer as there are other interested parties who can just out price us.

At this point our inability to control midfield and close out games as well as Man City’s ability to go on winning streaks (combined with their unlimited resources) are going to be the things that will have put us out of the title race. Our midfield has been short on quality from the start (yes, I get that apparently we have “loads of options”, but let’s be honest. They’ve been found wanting at critical moments) and not buying an experienced, quality midfielder who can stay fit looks a big mistake.

The midfield got decimated by injury/ sickness this season. Plus Ox looks a shadow of his former self and Kieta is just a waste of space. It sucks but that’s how it is.
On paper the midfield looks pretty decent, we could do with bringing one in and letting one or two go but it’s still fairly strong fully fit.

I get we’re not cash rich due to C.V. impact and the increased salary commitments but to say we can’t afford Denis Zakaria who is out of contract in the summer is a bit extreme. The stadiums have been full, we’re still in all comps and we’ve won all CL money available so far. To say we can’t afford anyone at all is rubbish.

Contrary opinion here, but I don't think our midfield is all that bad. Injuries/ C.V. have resulted in a million different permutations which is part of the problem. Another is missing Elliott, Jones, and Thiago for most of the season which would be my 3-5 choice starters after hendo and fabinho. Now specifically vs Chelsea, aside from hendo and fabinho being poor, I thought the difference was change in tactics that saw us surrender the middle third of the pitch to provide more cover for the defense. I could be wrong, but that's my explanation for why our passing was so labored/ inaccurate out of the defense. Our shape was different so no one was were they were expected to be and space was is different areas of the pitch when trying to play out of defense.
I think buying a mid in Jan would be a panic buy and not improve us. They always take months to get bedded in and would likely not get game time over who we already have. I think ox and keita have been disappointing but they're not terrible options right now (especially for 6-7th choice) . For me, Ox is the more solid of the two. Keita offers more going forward but is either lazy or has defensive lapses that put our defense under pressure and have resulted in conceding multiple goals. Keita is the weak link for me but I want to like him - he has the skill but seems to be missing the correct mentality. Unfortunately, I don't think we can sell him. I'd trust the kiddos over him currently.

When another teams player is out of contract in the summer, we can't afford them. When our players are out of contract, 'no one will pay decent money'.

Re Keita - we’ve only dropped points in one game he started - at Spurs. Whilst I agree that he’s not good at defending/ covering he has been involved in our good performances when available.

Bringing in a midfielder with legs and ability to tackle and press would be anything but a panic buy. We all wanted a CM in the summer and were disappointed that we didn’t do something. The need still exists.

I had misgivings as soon as I read that both Milner and Henderson were playing. Sadly on the day they brought Fabinho down to their level and he was caught in possession too many times. I saw Henderson dancing around like a ballerina and Milner charging around like a mad bull determined to commit his regular stupid foul in a dangerous position and we've all seen the potential consequences of his action. I just hope that Klopp sees that we need the strongest possible team on Thursday. I personally am sick of throwing away Cup competitions willy-nilly. The fans want to see trophies at Anfield and not at the poor end of the East Lancs.

Can folk stop laying into Milner and I’ve noticed a lot of Hendo hate. Granted Hendo hasn’t been at his best and Milner is a player who is a great addition to the squad. Keita has played five good games for us and people think he’s a sudden revolutionary and the Ox is a long standing problem. This notion of Klopp favouritism is equally laughable, he’s not an idiot and clearly thinks that the likes of the Ox and Naby are not reliable.
