For discussion everyone for some transfer window opinions.

Where does everyone think Phillips will sign for in this window?

Personally I think it will be Newcastle, what does everyone else think?

Seen a report earlier that we have turned down a bid of 7 mill for him, didn’t see who from from though. You’d like to think we could get at least 15 for him.

05 Jan 2022 19:17:43
I think someone will get an absolute bargain at 15 mil.

05 Jan 2022 19:48:41
It’s going to be Villa. Working with Gerrard will edge it I reckon.

05 Jan 2022 20:01:40
Villa want Gomez apparently.

05 Jan 2022 20:59:30
If Gomez doesn't want to go and Klopp doesn't want him to go them Gomez will be going nowhere.

05 Jan 2022 21:04:23
Would like to know who bid £7 million. Guessing Burnley.

05 Jan 2022 21:25:27
Flash I didn’t say Gomez was going. All I said was it’s rumoured Villa want him. After 12 mins of Premier League football this season then who know what he wants.

I love Gomez and think he is VVD’s best partner at the back. It’s strange that he’s found himself frozen out. I’d say could it be because he’s had injuries and can’t be relied upon but then Matip plays every week.
Klopp has just never been totally convinced by him for some reason.

05 Jan 2022 23:38:04
If Klopp wasn't convinced by Gomez he wouldn't have given him the chance to show he's potentially VVD's best partner.
He's unlucky with injuries, and it's understandable that Klopp doesn't want to break up VVD and Matip at the moment in the Prem.
He'll get the chance again soon enough, we've got a lot of games to get through so there will have to be rotation.
Knowing Gomez's luck though, he'll test positive the day he gets a start.

{Ed0666's Note - I think Gomez is a stud and in my opinion the perfect foil for Virgil. The problem with Joe is he takes a few games to get into his groove and in those games he will invariably make some serious clangers. But again I reiterate Joe Gomez is a fabulous central defender who can be a stalwart for Liverpool & probably England for many years to come.

I agree. For me £15 million is a steal.

06 Jan 2022 11:15:44
Surely West Ham - he is the ideal defender for them and would excel there in my opinion. Plus, they need a CB and have funds. I see no reason why we can't get £20 million plus for Phillips. He's English, young and a very good PL defender.

Ed666, completely agree, for me Gomez is our second best defender and should be partnering VVD.

06 Jan 2022 11:54:59
I agree with Stuie Boy, he’s a decent no nonsense English defender with top flight experience and champions league experience, £15m is daylight robbery, £20m is about right.

06 Jan 2022 04:26:37
666, gosh i hope so.

06 Jan 2022 08:40:13
That's how I see him too Ed. I can never understand folks who would sell him as a makeweight to bring in the latest flavour of the month.

06 Jan 2022 10:36:11
Spot on, Ed666 regarding Gomez. He has natural ability as a CB which is something you cannot coach. Either you have it or you don't, IMO. I don't believe he has regressed cos clearly, he has not been playing consistently due to long injury lay offs and before his injury last season, he was playing very well. Like you, I believe he is the best foil for VVD even tho I rate Konate and Matip.

I also believe that Matip could leave next season and if that happens, Gomez will get even more chances BUT we will have to see what happens. As for Phillips, if we don't get a decent fee for him then he stays. It's that simple, really.

{Ed0666's Note - I think a primo Joe is better than 70% of central defenders in the premier league. Whose better on their day? Dias? Virgil? Maybe one or two others.

06 Jan 2022 16:20:00
Who’s mentioned selling him as a makeweight? Don’t have to make stuff up to suite your agenda Flash.
I literally said Apparently Villa want him. Personably I think Gomez is a top quality player. But you wouldn’t care you’d probably twist that to have a cry.

06 Jan 2022 16:07:43
Fully agree, ED666. Never seen Dias outperform VVD while Gomez has done so lots of times even before his injury.

06 Jan 2022 18:43:48
Dias has been far better than VVD this season.

06 Jan 2022 21:11:31
I reckon Konate is going to be first choice fairly soon, we have a great player on our hands.

06 Jan 2022 21:47:34
@Markp08, totally agree about Dias and VVD’s form this season. VVD looks still to be a (mental) step or two off his peak this season, which maybe down to the need to fully recover from last season.

If we roll forward a couple of years to the inevitable VVD contract renewal saga I would love it if we could say Konate and Joe would be the best CB partnership in the PL if VVD left as I agree with Ed0666 about Joe and from what I have seen with@Mighty Reds about Konate.

Trouble is there’s always an ‘if’ about Joe’s fitness which is a real, real shame. I’d love to see him finish this season and get through next season with nothing more than a few minor knocks and bruises.

06 Jan 2022 21:49:00
Gomez for me Mighty, but the injury really set him back.

07 Jan 2022 02:23:29
Going by what's going on today, it seems Klopp and staff have decided Konate is the future. Whether it is with Gomez next to him, only time will tell. For now Klopp likes VVD and Matip a whole lot.
