Rumours floating around that Mo wants the armband - this, I believe, is one of the big sticking points re the contract.
He got the hump when TAA was given the armband in a CL game, in the absence of Henderson and VVD.

Salah has made numerous comments over the years about his status in the squad; but he has never been voted into the dressing room "leadership group".
Klopp doesn't get involves in that and if the players aren't picking Mo for this role, then I don't know what more the club can do.

I also think Klopp's contract status is a background issue here.
If Salah is signing up for four years, but Klopp goes after two, then what is the plan for the future?
Will FSG make a push to extend Klopp for a couple more seasons and get through the 10 year barrier? Maybe that is a big concern for Salah.

Agree0 Disagree0

A lot of supposition there, with nothing to back it up.

Not surprising at all. I'm not going to get into whether he should get it or deserves it, because those who get the armband now, are not any less deserving. But the point is that if it's a decision made by the players, then Salah needs to discuss it with the seniors in the team. And ask for the Ballon D'Or, while he's at it.

I think it’s mostly about money to be honest.

I think the eds have said the hang-up is over image rights.

I'm sceltical about this tbh. Mo is not an idiot and can hardly expect to be jumped ahead of the likes of van Dijk, TAA and Robbo to replace Milner as vice captain (Henderson will not be relieved as captain for anyone's benefit, so replacing Milner when he leaves is the best he could possibly get) if his team-mates nominated them for as stand in captains and not him.

I saw quotes allegedly from him today about his longevity and saying he can go as long as CR7, so if that's what he's coming out with, maybe the key issue is the length of contract. I'm sure a middle ground could be found whereby he automatically gets extended if he scores X number of goals or plays X number of games in his final season.

Why can Salah hardly expect to be ahead of Trent and Robbo in the Captain pecking order? He should be at least level in the thinking of Klopp and only behind Virg to take over from Hendo. He might be a bit greedy but work-wise and for the impact he's had surely he has to be right up there.

22 Apr 2022 18:25:41
Over the summer Klopp asked the squad to vote for three more players to captain the team if the existing captains (Hendo, Millie and van Dijk) were out. They nominated Trent, Robbo and Alisson. They did not nominate Salah. Obviously Salah knows this.

So why would he expect Klopp to elevate him ahead of the guys the squad as a whole actually wanted?

In fairness If I’ve ever seen a team that appears to have 11 leaders on the pitch at an one time it’s this one. Not really sure it matters who is captain.

The more Salah comes out in interviews talking about the more I think he’s gone. The club won’t be happy about these attempts to make it look like it won’t be his fault when he is sold or leaves on a free. Imagine a world where your only job is to play a game you love for a club you are supposedly happy at whilst getting paid multiple hundreds of thousands of pounds every week and that not being good enough. I despair for the poor lad I really do.

Some great replies there gents. Thankyou.

To be honest wages are irrelevant to me because every single high level professional footballer is over paid in my opinion but that doesn’t stop me from spending the wages I earn every month on LFC so for me to comment on wages would just make me a hypocrite.

Another question though.

If in the summer one of Haaland, Mbappe, Bellingham, Rice (I’m clutching at straws now trying to come up with ridiculous potential players) or another named player that anyone wants to come up with announced to the media that the only club they will move to is Liverpool and they will do anything to force that move through which drives the price down.

But that player then says they want 400-500k a week. Would we then be happy with paying a player who has not done a single thing for LFC in the past to get that contract over Salah who has proven he is world class at the club?

I only named such players because due to the fee they would demand at a guess I would say 300k would be the weekly fee they would look at being the lowest. If we aren’t happy then that takes out of the equation of going for such players in the future then.

Apologies My above comment was meant for the thread below 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Westwood. That's how it is in all professional sports nowadays. Sports athletes are placed on a such a high pedestal, that they lose touch with what life is like on the ground and refuse to come down from that pedestal when it's time.

Salah is leaving for a bigger pay day if he can get it. As he has wanted to for the last few years. He has earnt it and if not for C.V. he would be in RM by now. Stop bitching and wish him the best. Bowen will replace him and life goes on. Spaceman is constantly speculating nonsense. Grow up.

23 Apr 2022 04:36:50
Rambo8, why Bowen? He will not score anywhere near the amount of goals Salah scores. Bowen is a good player but no way near the level of a Salah. We have 5 forwards, who have scored a combined goals total of 59 goals in the premier league, of which salah has scored 22 (with 12 assists) and the other 4 have scored a combined total of 37. Bowen would not get anywhere near that. It would be backward move for us.

23 Apr 2022 07:10:14
Kloppistopp if you’re expecting us to replace Salah like for like, you’re going to be disappointed. Any player is a backwards step from Mo but I think Bowen would fit in nicely and any front 3 we put out is going to be full of goals.

23 Apr 2022 07:59:22
The very first word in the opening post is the key - "Rumours".
Captaincy, money, image rights, nobody knows for sure so it's all just a guessing game.
Meanwhile I hope he gets his mojo back in fine style against our blue brethren tomorrow as he's been a shadow of himself recently.

23 Apr 2022 11:14:45
If anyone wants to leave because they are not captain, we should insist that they leave.
I'm not saying that Salah is doing this, mind.

23 Apr 2022 18:02:23
As good as Bowen may be, it would be a backwards step replacing Salah with him. Salath is worth 30 goals a season consistently (in goals and assists combined) and Bowen is a big drop off in quality and output. That’s just stone cold fact.

Given we are so reliant on our forwards (we don’t score many from midfield or anywhere else), losing a bonafide 20 goals and 10 assists a season forward and not replacing him like for like would be stupid to say the least, particularly given that City are going to sign Haaland (who as much as I want him to fail spectacularly is more likely to be a big hit) which makes it even more difficult to compete.

I can’t see a logical argument for not renewing, as selling leaves us no room for a quality replacement who can fill the void in the team, I’ve yet to see anyone who advocates selling Salah propose one single suitable replacement as we’re certainly not getting the likes of Haaland or Mbappe.

Spot on, Flash. Literally stopped reading after all that as well, mate esp the “Slash wants the armband” bit.
