This is what mental weakness is all about, and I have always noticed it in Pep's teams. Under high pressure they buckle. ManCity were clearly the better team at the Etihad. And they were clearly the better team today, too. Madrid did not have a single shot on goal during the 90 minutes. But instead of having the intelligence and mental strength to shut up shop, they let in 2 goals in 2 minutes, in extra time.

Madrid will be sky high with confidence. They didn't play well and yet here they are in the final.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not only that ArAY mate he made changes like crazy if the tie was already in the beg but no one will talk abt this.

Sorry but you cannot accuse that Barcelona team of Pep's of mentally weakness. That was the most perfect team I have ever seen in my life. In 100 years, they will still probably be considered the greatest team of all time.

{Ed0666's Note - The way that team dismantled United in the CL final was a thing of beauty and brutality. I’m not sure there will ever be a team that breathtaking again.

For me it’s more than mental. They had psg syndrome teams in the league lie down to them and just roll
Over. Only LFC and probably Chelsea and spurs go for them. They play bigger teams who actually play and they struggle. Pep is a good manager but he hasn’t won the champs league without messi and he never will. He’s the greatest cheque book manager ever, but he has the arrogance that let's him down every time. They go 1-0 up and he takes his best player off. Also grealish wtf is that.

Agreed ArAy mate. but in simple terms, city should of buried them in both legs especially the home leg. So used to rolling over teams, when a team actually has a go at them they are shocked. The penalty given by Diaz in extra time was stupid and cost them dearly. Warning to us. Take your chances and control the game.

Surely if they were the better team, we'd be playing then in the final.

Pulling off de bruyne was Pep at his Champions League best 😂 I know he was under par. But it’s like Klopp whipping off Virgil Van Dijk/ Salah after an hour in a semi final away at Madrid. You leave your top players on. Hopefully this ruins them Aray in the league, extra time won’t help the legs, and chucking away a two goal lead won’t help the minds. Bottled it.

{Ed0666's Note - maybe he was a passenger because he was injured or carrying a slight knock? You can’t just criticize Pep for hooking an underperforming player even if it is De Bruyne

I thought the same Ay. Not only that but in extra time they were shot. You could see the belief had just been drained out of them and there was only going to be one winner.
You could say that we weren’t mentally strong in the first half yesterday but we regrouped at half time and came out and blew them away. That’s the thing, it’s not getting knocked down that’s the problem, that can happen. The very best teams will react and go again.
City just didn’t have that in them tonight. It probably didn’t help that Pep had taken De Bruyne, Mahrez and Jesus off thinking they’d won the tie.

Im not sure Id accuse Pep of arrogance. If anything I think nerves means he overthinks things. he is clearly a perfectionist who is always seeking to improve - usually a good thing but can sometimes backfire eg tinkering when you don't need to.

Like I said yesterday, or the day before, 8 times out of 10:City wouldn’t lose to Real Madrid, but, in the same way there is a bit of magic around us when we play in the CL, there is the same feeling for RM. I said I had a sneaking suspicion that RM might steal it from them.

The big thing is now - given Citeh aren’t getting their Holy Grail again this season - is it a big enough kick in the nads for Newcastle to (at least) not lose to them at the weekend? I think Pep and Citeh in general will be in a pretty bad place at the moment and I wouldn’t be 100% surprised if the Geordies got something out of the game.

Anyway, enough of City for the time being - Real Madrid it is, bring them on!

'Pulling off De Bruyne'
*stifles laughter*.

Rigsby 😂 pep had a mare doing that mid game. There’s over thinking and just plain weird 🤣.

I think my humour is still stuck in my early teens too, Rigsby!

I had the same reaction, mate!
