The annoying thing about the Chelsea game being this weekend rather than the final domestic fixture is I don’t get to say “every game from here on is a cup final” and for once be factual

Whatever happens from this point the team have been remarkable this season. Certainly several levels of success higher than I could have imagined at the beginning of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the team end up losing two finals from here on then It’s a massive failure and shame. Let’s not butter polish it. I don’t know what people mean by enjoy the ride and then the same people say it’s all about 3 points lol.

11 May 2022 09:13:30
TT, you raise a good point actually. I would be interested to know who on here would class the season a 'failure' if we only end up with the league cup. What determines a successful season for us at this point?

11 May 2022 09:29:56
We’ve lost 3 times all season, with only 4 games to play.
I’m of the opinion that should the worst happen and we don’t win the finals, losing 5 games in a season of over 60 games has to be a good season.

11 May 2022 09:55:28
Harry in 19/ 20, your favorite team won ONLY the League Cup while bottling it vs Lyon in the CL, got dumped out of the FA Cup and got pummeled by LFC to win the league. Was that a successful season for them?

11 May 2022 09:56:55
For me, if we only end up with Carabao then it’s a failure despite us being impressive. I think the champions league makes it a huge success.

11 May 2022 10:02:26
Stuie I think it could be as simple as juggling the words around mate.

If we don’t win anything else from here on then it’s a case of we’ve had a very good season battling on all fronts and trying to achieve our goals but we ultimately failed to achieve 3 of the goals of winning the League, CL and FA cup.

11 May 2022 10:36:30

It depends. For the ambitious set of fans it’s a failure and the rest would find an excuse if the team lose the finals. Success is and would always be measured by trophies. Anything else and you are pretending.

11 May 2022 10:38:43

Liverpool did not win a single PL trophy for 30 years. What do you call this period? Impressive successful period without trophies lol. Success is measured by trophies. Stop daydreaming.

11 May 2022 11:19:25
For me I expect that we compete for trophies year in year out. we're doing that now. This whole successful / failure of a season narrative is a bit shallow to me. I mean if we end up with only Carabao CUp some will class that a failure for sure. but what does that mean? Sack Klopp? Drop Hendo? what is it? Win or lose, we're loading up again to come right back and put ourselves in with a shout and that's the least I ask for.

11 May 2022 11:21:49
If we win EPL or the Champions League it’s a brilliant season.

If we win FA Cup and Carabao cup it’s very good but tinged with disappointment.

Bottom line is if we get to a final we have to win that final or it’s a let down.

If we win both FA Cup and Champions League then it’s great.

Big parade for EPL or Champions League wins.

Satisfied smiles for FA Cup and Carabao Cup wins

If we do the lot then it would just be bonkers.

Interesting set of responses and judging by the above, I think most people feel the League Cup by itself isn't that big an achievement. It is a difficult one for me. I think if City weren't the team they currently are, just winning the League Cup would be a failure to me, but the fact that we have kept pace with them this season has to be applauded to some degree. I will be so disappointed if we don't win the FA Cup and CL but at the same time be elated with the progress the club has made on and off the field in the last few years.

11 May 2022 12:01:19
Harry, and you stop deflecting. City didn't win as much as an argument for 30 years (NO TROPIES) did not win the league for 40 years till they won the lottery with the Sheikhs. Was that successful for them too? See, I can do the same thing. Also, we won 15 major trophies during that 30 year spell (EVERY single trophy on earth) of not winning the league. Let me know what City's record was during that time. Oh, please see in above paragraph.

In the end, stop deflecting cos nobody asked you about what happened 30 years ago. I asked you a simple question via a proper comparison between this season and the 19/ 20 season. Let me know when you are ready to answer the question.

11 May 2022 12:52:48
If we end up with the league Cup alone there won't be thousands upon thousands lining the streets of Liverpool for a parade. League Cup and CL gets the open bus treatment. League Cup and fa Cup can get that treatment aswell I guess.

11 May 2022 12:56:12
So when city win the league as expected now this season. is it a bad season for them? Afterall they are expected to win the league and a cup. We weren't even expected to challenge by all the pundits. But challenge we have, for every god damn thing.

11 May 2022 13:11:20
Oli, why do you even bother.

11 May 2022 13:55:33
My god Harry, I find your posts so repetitive it’s now tedious. Why on earth did you ever switch back from City to Liverpool. I for one wish you had stayed there.

For me, a measure of success is how well you’ve performed as a team against expectation. At the beginning of the season, given the AFCON I was hoping for a top 4 finish and a decent run in the champions league …. we have far exceeded that and I’ve loved every minute of it, regardless of what happens from now until the end of the season. I’m immensely proud of the team and how far we’ve come.

We have come a hell of a long way from the dark days of Hicks and Gillette under FSG. We have a brilliant manager, the best squad in my living memory, a bigger stadium, new training facilities, doing far better with commercial revenues and as a club overall … for me, that is a true measure of success.

If you want to measure success purely on trophies won, then you’ll be far better supporting City again where they will continue to cheat FFP and buy their ‘success’.

11 May 2022 16:08:51
Harry Sterling doesn't support Liverpool, he is just here for the attention!

11 May 2022 17:07:02
Just a point then Harry. Could you not then regard Pep’s time at City as a failure?

His task was to win the champions league. Hoover up all the other competitions yes but conquering Europe was the goal. That’s the trophy they wanted and so far he’s failed. Despite spending over 1 billion in trying.

So in that context do the trophies we has won mean it’s a success? Given with the squad he has had and the money he has spent he frankly should win the league every season.

Success is measured by what your goals are. Those goals aren’t always necessary trophies or the number obtained. They also change throughout the year. Staying in the league could be a success. Europa League Qualification could be a success.

For instance last year Liverpool qualifying for the champions league was a massive success given the season they had.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree with most of your musings wassa but is success really measured by your goals? I could say I’m gonna earn 5 million pounds this year and by a Ferrari if I don’t achieve that will I be a failure?

11 May 2022 18:38:33
How did Harry Scouser transition to Harry Sterling? 😲.

11 May 2022 18:39:22
What are the goals at LFC if not trophies Wassa? Pep has been a massive failure in terms of CL trophies at city. This has been running on this page ever since they were knocked out by Real. What’s next?

11 May 2022 18:58:58
And who's been making sure the subject keeps running on this page, with consistently repetitive, self-serving posts?

11 May 2022 18:25:01
The answer is Yes, Ed0666. I, and I think most people should, measure success in terms of the goals you have set for yourself. Of course there are many caveats and contextual points, but in general that's how I think it should be. States of mind like success, joy and happiness are all very relative so if you are going to measure them then you have to set a measuring standard. Didn't get the 5million and the ferrari, then you're a failure. Decided you only want good health and long life, then you've had success thus far.

(It feels so creepy talking about non-football issues over here) .

{Ed0666's Note - in everyday life why do we need to measure success or set goals? I understand it to an extent in the workplace but meritocracy’s are not all bonhomie and roses

12 May 2022 12:37:47
How many times have Man City won the League? How many times have Liverpool won the League?

How many times have Man City won the European Cup / CL? How many times have Liverpool won the European Cup / CL .

How many times have Man City won the World Club Championship? How many times have Liverpool won the World Club Championship?

How many times have Man City won the FA Cup? How many times have Liverpool won the FA Cup?

How many times have Man City won the League Cup? How many times have Liverpool won the League Cup?

Given your preoccupation with winning cups Transition_Time who would you say has won the most trophies?

11 May 2022 19:42:10
Goals are purpose. We all need purpose in this existence, Ed.

{Ed0666's Note - that’s subjective mate
