It's going to start with whispers, but it's definitely going to start.

"Is this the best Liverpool team ever assembled"?

Personally I'd wait until after the UCL final, but I know people are impatient.

A few of us on the wrong side of 50 or 60 have said that it is the best squad we have ever had. Hard to say if it’s the best starting 11 because we’ve had some cracking teams over the years but, personally, I’m just really happy being able to see us do what we have done this season with the boys we have.

{Ed0666's Note - I still have a soft spot for Kenny’s first 11 in the 80’s. That was some team in the late 80’s. Barnes was a one man virtuoso better than Mo if that’s possible to say without sounding like a twat and I love Mo.

It's possible to say it without looking like a twat when you're talking about Barnes.

Best in lfcs premier league history, some of the best players I’ve ever seen wearing an LFC shirt tbh.

Allison though for me is my goat for LFC I loved grobblear was to young to remember clemence but he is by far the best keeper in the world and the best keeper I’ve ever seen.

Jaydubred. I'm 62. What are you? 16? (Since you picked up on it so fast? ) .

WDW. Unless you're on the wrong side of 60, like me, and have seen the teams of the 70's and 80's, you really have only the record books and those dreaded statistics to go by. My point was exactly that, because the stats for this team (and titles) are beginning to look very good.

Best team I've seen play for us since Kennys 87/ 88 version.

{Ed0666's Note - which team is better tho mate?

15 May 2022 00:54:28
This is the best since the eighties. But I can’t say it’s better than the side that had Dalglish, Souness, Hansen et al.

You can’t compare the two as football has changed so much. This team would spank the team of the 70s/ 80s but professionalism, fitness, technology has come on so much since then.
I’d say the team of the 70s/ 80s is better because they dominated all comers for so long winning league after league and European cup after European cup.
For this team to be anywhere near City though is nothing short of a miracle and they deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Kenny, Hansen, Souness et al.

To be honest I don’t know what our best starting team is. There are 3 questions for me:

1. Who partners Virgil at CB?
2. Who joins Fabs and Thiago in midfield?
3. Given Mo starts on the right side which two of Bobby, Luis and Sadio start up front?

As I’ve said before my first match was in 1960 although I don’t remember anything about it but saw the teams that Shanks built and onwards.

From a stats perspective Uncle Joe’s team in 83-84 and Ged’s team in 2000-01 are pretty good. But I don’t rate them in the same class as the Curren team.

What I will say is that in and around Bob Paisley’s day for a number of years I always had the feeling going to the match that we would win irrespective of who we were playing. I got the same feeling in late 2019 and I think if C.V. hadn’t happened we wouldn’t be have by the debate.

What’s brilliant for me is that since the beginning of this year we have surpassed anything I’ve seen us do since I can remember and (irrespective of our last three games this season) I suspect Jurgen Norbert can see ways to make us even better and I think we are in for some good times for the next few seasons (especially if we can bring in Sanchez and affaire.

Damn autocorrect ‘affaire’ should have read Traore. 😁😁.

Ah Ed0666 that's a horrible question. I think the 87/ 88 team would be remembered as better if we had today's wall to wall coverage of games. That team also would've added to the European Cup total without a shadow of doubt. I'm reading WDW's post above and I'm saying "mate you've Fabs and Thiago in midfield and who joins them? Souness, Gerrard, Alonso. Momo Sissoko was on the absolute trajectory of brilliance before the eye injury". In summary I've not a clue.

{Ed0666's Note - Oh mate Momo was gonna go onto greatness! What a player he was becoming
