Seeing differing views on Bellingham based on his past season in Germany.
Interested in opinions on how people and Eds think he would do in the PL.
It seems many highly rated players from the Bundesleague (spelling) have not exactly set the PL on fire in recent years (Sanhco, Havertz, Warner etc) .
Imo he is still unproven.

{Ed001's Note - it really depends on him, he has the talent to succeed but he needs to work harder in the Prem to make it than he has to in the Bundesliga.}

Agree0 Disagree0

He’s too much of a big time Charlie for me. He’s all hype and no substance, if he wasn’t English I guarantee you that no one would bat an eyelid at him.

He certainly won’t be coming here because aside from the transfer fee, he’ll be asking for the same wages (or more) as a certain Jadon Sancho, who’s on something like £350000, and there’s no way we’re paying that, if we won’t pay that to Salah or Mane then there’s no way we’ll do that for Bellingham.

06 Jun 2022 08:22:55
@VVVV wow, just wow. So much supposition and guesswork. Do you have any factual evidence whatsoever to support what you said?

06 Jun 2022 08:26:33
Your obsessed with wages Victor, its the first thing you say about any top player we are linked to! I've said this before but that pay structure is going to have to be broken some day or we will eventually be left behind, even with Klopp in charge! i would guess we are already prepared to break it for Salah its just a matter of by how much.

06 Jun 2022 08:39:14
Although the wage comment was nonsense, i agree with VVVV that Bellingham is over rated. Every time i've seen him play he's been painfully average. I haven't even seen anything from him to suggest he's better than Curtis jones or Harvey Elliott.

06 Jun 2022 08:46:20
Jadon mate I'll be surprised if we are going to break our wage structure for a 30 yr old who needs to be replaced gradually.

Yes with the way our sponsors and commercial deals are soaring so will our wage bill in coming months/ years but I doubt it will be spent on players who are technically looking for their Last big pay cheque. Just like mane (Replaced by Diaz and wasn't offered a new contract) very soon Salah will be replaced too.

Bellingham isn't what our midfield needs. Think carvalho can easily add what Bellingham offers atm in bundesliga in-terms of creativity from midfield.

06 Jun 2022 09:31:31
I think Carvallho could be moulded into the Firmino role by Klopp. If he can then that would be great business.

06 Jun 2022 09:34:45
So you don't think Salah was offered AT LEAST £300k a week already by the club kop? i would.

06 Jun 2022 09:37:13
At the moment under the way Klopp plays our midfield are very restricted in what areas of the pitch they cover as they don’t bomb forward and they are very disciplined in keeping our formation and covering the space the full backs vacate.

This isn’t to downplay what they do as they are a vital cog in the machine. I just don’t see us spending 100 mill and record wages on a midfielder who will be restricted. Not unless Klopp sees next season and the potential loss of our forwards as a new way of playing and a new formation which allows a no 10 or more freedom to our midfield.

06 Jun 2022 09:40:55
@MK, totally agree with you, I think Bellingham is overrated and isn’t anything special, although does have the potential to be. The bundesliga is no way near the level of physicality or quality of the premiere league, and I haven’t seen anyone come over from that league in the last few years and smash it over here! I even have doubts about how well Haarland will do here…. yes he’s done amazing at Dortmund but like I said premiere league is a whole new ball game.

06 Jun 2022 09:45:58
Harsh saying Bellinghams not what our midfield needs aswell, kids still only 18 and already as good as any midfielder in the Bundesliga and will start for England at the World Cup. A huge talent.

06 Jun 2022 09:52:23
maybe who knows but don't think 300k is breaking our wage structure when couple of our players are already getting above 200k.

06 Jun 2022 10:27:57
whether others mistakenly rate him as the next Gerrard or whatever, the fact remains that he is a teenage kid starting in on of the worlds best leagues and playing international football to boot.

I prefer to look at the talent he does have and what he can bring to the team. But that it more so for adults not teenage kids. The critique of a child is not called for especially when it is laced with an opinion about his character. That is pretty embarrassing and yes VVVV I am speaking directly to you.

If Jude is available next season and we have the means to be bring him in I would be 100% for it. Has all the tools read to thrive in our team and with room to grow.

06 Jun 2022 10:38:41
If Bellingham had come through at Kirkby everyone would be absolutely raving about him. Its as if people expect him to move elsewhere so let's get the early slating in.

06 Jun 2022 10:40:21
Exactly how i feel KloppisTopp. He could be very good one day but right now he looks totally out of his depth in big games.

I judge Bundesliga players on how they perform in the Champions League; something none of the Dortmund team have done in recent years except maybe Haaland on the rare occassion he's been fit.

06 Jun 2022 11:15:25
Well lads, Bellingham is actually someone i think we could actually have a chance of getting next summer unlike practically any other player of his kinda talent who usually we don't have a chance of. Maybe he's not rated on here but the rest of the top six, Newcastle and EVERY major club in Europe would love to get him next year but sure what do they know.

06 Jun 2022 11:56:14
Jadon, i take your point that we'd be raving about him. However, we also wouldn't have to pay for him if he came through our academy. The rumoured price tag and potentially high wages are what make people question signing him. VVVV, made a very bold assumption with numbers plucked from thin air but you can't dispute that the potential costs involved in bringing him to Anfield make it a huge risk. And that is why he will be judged more harshly than our own academy graduates. Because if they flop or go off the boil in their early 20's, it's not cost a lot and we also keep our lads grounded in terms of their salaries.

Look at Dele Alli as a prime example of how too much too soon can go to a players head. Marcus Rashford is another good example. Ousmane Dembele, Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, Jadon Sancho etc. Or even those who don't flop, take Mbappe and Messi as an example of how much a player can end up earning by their 20's and how much power they can end up with, if you throw money at teenagers.

Liverpool would do well to steer well clear of risks like Bellingham. Because if the fame and fortune went to his head after a mega money move, Liverpool have too much to lose in the deal. He's hardly a generational talent worth that kind of risk.

06 Jun 2022 12:20:54
@MK Scouser - look at the fact that Liverpool have backed away from Gavi today. For whatever reason they decided that he isn’t the person they want. I think that part of what they look at these days is the person as well as the player. If they see the qualities they want in Bellingham or Bowen or Bissouma or anybody else I’d be happy to go with their judgement. They seem to be getting it increasingly right since the German fella showed up.

{Ed002's Note - Gavi was never joining Liverpool.}

06 Jun 2022 12:33:34
From what I have heard his family are pretty grounded and want him (and his younger brother) to make the best decisions for his football career. I wouldn't tar him with the Sancho brush just yet.

06 Jun 2022 12:51:04
Mk players shudnt be judged more or less harshly because of their wage! Any wage they happen to be on has been agreed because of their past performances, they've earned that rate of pay! And also let's say he went for a £100m, we are going to have to get used to players going for these kinda fees. Rice will go for more, Bowen wouldn't be far off and he's just earned his 1st cap. Even Nunez who's had what 2 seasons in Portugal (an inferior league to Germany, infact the championship is stronger than Portugal where Bellingham was a regular at 16) after being bought from the Spanish 2nd tier will go for big money this summer. Im not saying every signing has to be huge i realise we can't do that but we have to back klopp when he really wants us to, or else he'll be trying to compete with one arm tied behind his back.

06 Jun 2022 13:31:49
Lots of big clubs will be in for Mane but he’s been average for 2 seasons apparently 😜.

06 Jun 2022 13:45:00
Yeh, and offering £21m for him aswell.

06 Jun 2022 14:03:09
Jadon, of course they should be judged against their transfer fee and wage. The money these clubs have is funded both directly and indirectly by the people who watch football. The clubs then spend our money predominantly on buying and paying players. So those players are always going to be judged on how much money we are paying for them. When we're all having to shop at Lidl and turn the heating off just so we can afford 3 new kits a season, sky-rocketing train prices/ petrol prices through the roof, Ticket increases, TV Licenses, Sky Sports, BT Sports, Amazon Prime, LFC TV and god knows what else; these blokes are taking home millions in their 3rd Bentley. The cost to follow your team has never been higher and the reason they keep hiking the costs we incur is so the clubs can spend more money on players and wages. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The divide between players and fans has never been bigger so you can't blame the people paying for their lifestyles to at least expect quality proportionate to their cost, in return. We get rinsed to make them rich.

Anything you pay money for in life is subject to the assessment "was it value for money". Bellingham does not strike me (and clearly many others) as guaranteed value for money. I'd rather wait until he's 22/ 23 before signing him if we're talking hundreds of millions in fees and wages. Prove to the world you're not just a flash in the pan. It's just my opinion at the end of the day and you are sadly correct that these fees will start becoming more normalised because unfortunately the people in the sport from top to bottom are completely out of touch with real life.

06 Jun 2022 14:20:16
You can't start putting on footballers the woe's of the world MK, that's a different conversation altogether. We won't get him at 22/ 23 because he will have already left Dortmund by then. Its next summer or never, we will have a chance to sign a real gamechanger who along with our other top young players can hopefully lead us to trophies. Will we take that chance? only Klopp knows.

06 Jun 2022 18:11:58
Buy one English player for £100 million or two equally talented non English players for the same price.
It's a no-brainer.
The closest Klopp has come to a major English signing was the Ox, and that was round £35 million 5 years ago.
As long as English talent comes with a vastly inflated price tag we won't be breaking the bank to sign any of it. It gives the fans something to fantasise over, but it won't go any further than that.

06 Jun 2022 19:33:12
Fair enough flash but who are the two non english teenagers as good as bellingham we can get for the same price?

06 Jun 2022 20:06:55
I'm not a scout mate, I don't watch other football any more either so I don't know. I only watch Liverpool and major international competitions nowadays. That's why Klopp has the contacts that he has, and why we got players like Fabinho and Diaz at the prices we did.
How much would Diaz be worth if he was English?
Would it be fair to start at £90-100 million?

06 Jun 2022 20:32:47
I have no doubt Jude will be be a quality player (he already is) and believe he’d be a main stay in pretty much any midfield in the world for the next 10-15 year, same people who don’t rate him are probably the same people who wouldn’t rate Declan rice purely because they’re English. Price/ salaries etc mean nothing to fans and the Ed’s constantly tell posters to not involve themselves in it.

06 Jun 2022 21:00:24
Im sorry flash but neither Fab nor Diaz showed near the potential Bellingham is showing at his age! As Sailor Jerry says above he will be a mainstay in any midfield in the world for the next 10-15 years. He's showing Rooney or Gerrard potential.

06 Jun 2022 21:20:56
He may well be JH, but FSG sure ain't going to part with £100 odd million for him because he's English and has potential.
I'm not doubting the quality or the potential of the player, just the willingness of FSG to pay that kind of figure.
History suggests they won't.
We paid a hefty sum for VVD and Ali because they were already at a level where they would step straight in and become cornerstones of the team. Plus we had the Coutinho money to burn.
It's a fact of life and both Klopp and FSG have said it - some players are out of our price range.

06 Jun 2022 22:39:48
From this season on we'll be recording record revenues so ye never know! We seem to be picking up enough bargains this summer in Carvalho and Ramsey and with Milner signing on im starting to think we won't strengthen midfield at all.
