Ed1 do you see Klopp going with Konate and Virgil as first choice centre backs next season?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Same 4 x CBs though I assume Ed?

I read that Nat Philips may go out on loan again.
If so, does that make him effectively the 5th choice CB with a recall option, or is it a matter of the right offer being required for his sale?
Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - I don't believe recall options are possible any more, not for a player to return outside of a transfer window anyway. Sadly it does seem we are happy to let him go for the right offer, which is a shame as he showed he was good enough to be a cheap 4th choice. Then we could have reduced the wage bill significantly by selling Matip, nice guy etc, but he is paid a lot and Konate and Gomez are surely the future next to VVD? We need to be more sparing on wages to allow us to invest more in the players we do need to be first choice ie a new midfielder.}

Ed001 with regards to wages we could be losing 2 of the top 5 paid players in the next 12 months in Mo and Bobby. Add to that Milner has resigned on apparently significantly reduced terms and Origi used to get paid a decent whack to play minimum minutes a season, so it sounds like the club are doing a good bit of business with regards to the wage bill.

{Ed001's Note - about time too. For all the raving about the job Edwards did, under his watch the wages were ridiculous. Hopefully that will be sorted out now he is gone and a tighter control taken of them as they are one of the biggest outgoings the club has. It makes a huge difference to the club's ability to invest in new players to improve the team keeping the wage bill manageable.}

Ed1 how did you think Konate fared in his first season? I like him, very good in the air, quick and hopefully will get better with Virgil marshaling him when reading a game.

{Ed001's Note - he was ok, improved as the season went on.}

Ed, what is the actual truth behind the wages at Liverpool? We keep hearing (not from here) that Liverpool have a strict wage structure and refuse to go overboard with the highest wage earners, yet the evidence available actually shows we have an enormous wage bill that clearly has a lot of room for efficiency savings. How can we have such a bloated wage bill yet our highest-paid player barely makes the top 10 in terms of salary in the PL?

{Ed001's Note - because we have too many players earning big wages. It is true that we have not gone too high with the top few, but we pay too much to the rest. The likes of Matip are on far too much, in large part because he was a free signing to be fair. The first choice stars, the Salah, Mane and Thiagos deserve big money, but we pay too much to those behind them. They should have a new contract as one of the incentives to perform. It doesn't help that we have overpaid youth players far too often.

The wage bill and squad size just needs to be kept trim and the likes of Ox (much as I like him) should be off the wage bill. He should have been out last summer really. We are not ruthless enough with back ups.}

12 Jun 2022 15:22:09
I have to agree with you Ed on Ox. I’m always saying to my pals he is a decent player, just not getting the form to get near the team. Shame as I like him a lot.

Karius has gone, that’s wages off. Has Adrian left too?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think Adrian is gone yet, but his wages are not an issue, he is on a small amount as 3rd keeper and helps coach the keepers too.}

12 Jun 2022 15:41:41
Isn't trent now on 180k a week? Robbos went up to 100k but he's arguably been the best or atleast in the top 3 left backs in the world for several years now. Trents been magnificent for us. Not sure about putting him up to that amount at only 23 but he is a great passer.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know how much he is on but paying the best right-back in the world a high wage is not an issue.}

12 Jun 2022 15:45:37
Do you think that’s something we going to be more hopeful of rather than see Ed. Ageing players drop there wages and move into coaching roles?

{Ed001's Note - I think more likely ageing players will be moved on.}

12 Jun 2022 16:21:53
If it’s to be believed what’s online about salaries Matip is the 12th highest paid player In the squad.

Mentally Ben Davies is reported to be on 60k a week so we’ve paid him about 4.5 million in wages to not play a single minute.

{Ed001's Note - that kind of player is the big issue. It was a stupid, nonsensical panic buy.}

12 Jun 2022 17:44:13
Jk. if its true that matip is the 12th highest earner then fair play. He is afterall usually in the starting 11. I have problems with the likes of ox keita bobbys ect. and other fringe players wages.

12 Jun 2022 17:27:47
Wasn’t Klopp against it Ed? Ben Davies.

{Ed001's Note - no transfer happens without Klopp's say-so.}

12 Jun 2022 17:29:56
Also Ed, I meant I’m general across Football about the ageing players taking decisions to drop there money.
Could you ever see someone like Ronaldo having a contract somewhere and saying give me £50,000 a week. He’s earned enough that he probably could play for the love of a club instead of the money

Didn’t Fowler come back to us on £20,000 and didn’t care what it was?

{Ed001's Note - it should be that way, usually ageing players do have to accept lower pay.}
