As per reports we aren't signing a midfield i guess. IMO it's completely wrong if we aren't. Even if we sign Bellingham next season, we need to cover for players like Thiago, Keita and Hendo whose fitness needs to be managed. Milly is getting old too.
It looks mostly we might go for 4-2-3-1. With 5 subs allowed we need to manage thaigo, Fab and Hendo. I think Morton, Jones will get lots of game time. Hopefully Klopp prepares Morton alot. Giving him lots of game time.
This question is to Ed's and fellow readers, i haven't watched much of academy players. Who is next in line to take place in first team? . Need someone in midfield for sure.

As far as midfielders go the likes of Clarkson and Cain would be the most experienced but whether they're good enough is another matter. I really like the look of Bacjetic but he might still be a bit too young.

Madness not bringing in a mid I’d true it’s where we fell short last season!

We’ve been here with the likes of Thiago, Alisson and van Dijk before. The club will give it’s official line and change it’s mind if the price is right. We desperately need a midfielder and cannot afford to wait another season. I really don’t want us to blow our chances of winning the League or the Champions League like we did last season because our midfield is knackered all the time.

I think we are very dependent on the outgoings and the fee we get from them for us to get a midfielder this summer. We need a attacking midfielder badly to chip in some goals.

There is no guarantee yet of players leaving, however we have so far got a very highly rated youngster, specialist cover for trent rather than shoe horning someone else in there and a replacement (of sorts) for Mane.

Plenty of time to go yet but if there are no more incomings, I'd still say it's been a very good window.

Hendo, Fab, Thiago, Keita, Jones, Milner, Elliot, Morton with a dash of Carvalho I suppose.

I can understand the gap in a like for like for Fabs, but the club have shown they prefer not to make panic purchase just to get a body in. I back that. So unless a player we want is attainable, then I'd expect we don't bring in a midfielder and we rely on the current group of 8/ 9 first team midfielders in the squad already to do the job.

It’s all well and good saying ‘we need a midfielder’ but we need the right midfielder. If he’s not available now I’d rather wait until he is.

Agree with most of you - we need a reliable midfielder to come in. Hopefully the local press are just putting out the usual bluff/ posturing for the club and that more work will be done at some point.

Whilst it may sound like an overreaction given we almost reeled in all 4 trophies, the midfield is missing genuine Fab cover. We have to resolve that if we want to improve our midfield control in games. We lost points in 5 games from a leading position - with Thiago missing each of the 5 and Naby missed half of them.

For reference, in 19/ 20 we lost points from a leading position in only 2 games - both after the title had already been celebrated.

OP, what reports are those? The ones the Daily Fail pushed out? Nah, we don't do our business in the media and even if we did, if the reports don't have Paul Joyce's name on them then automatically I ignore what you have to say. We still need a midfielder hence, we are interested in Sangare, as ED02 has said. Forget what you read cos nobody knows anything about what we are doing except what has been announced by the club or the Paul Joyce's of the world.

Relax, bro. The TW just started a few days ago. Players are on vacation and so is the manager and the staff. The transfers with handle themselves. Have a lovely summer. It's beautiful outside my window right now.

Id be really surprised with outgoings still to come if the club had made this decision this early, personally id be really surprised if we don't bring a mid in, we'll have wait and see I suppose.

I agree Rum Lad, be surprised if we don't bring a midfielder in. Think the onus will be on bringing the right midfielder in, one that can play the 8 and 6 would be ideal, we tried for Touchemeni but he always wanted Madrid.

Talk of perhaps Sangare but the windows just opened, plenty of time to get the recruitment right.

As far as midfielders in the academy go (after Morton of course) the closest to being ready are Norris and Clayton in my opinion. Clayton is u23's captain and a very good young player. However, Norris was converted from left back and turned out to be the best midfielder in the u23's in my opinion.

Clarkson isn't good enough for mens football and it showed badly at Blackburn this season. Cain did okay on loan but it was league 2 and it looked to be his level.

With more subs next season then hopefully more players can get rests depending on how games are going. If we are more clinical and finish games off early then there will be opportunities to give younger players more game time.

As Ed001 pointed about the game is coming thick and fast in this season, we need players to cover and rotate. I know people are saying the right player needs to be available and it's Jude. Jude is just one of the puzzle. He can't cover Fab even if he signs this window. We were panicked when Fab got injured towards the end. Does we want to be in that position again? .
For me if Klopp thinks Morton can cover/ Klopp can help him to improve to be understudy for Fab then its well and good for me. But if we are going again for everything then we need to be sure we have positions covered in all areas of pitch.
