Gutted about Mane.

He's been a giant for us!

I understand the reasons but still gutted.

I love Mane. But I think it’s time.
His days on the wing are finished, and although his performances improved upfront after Afcon, the last two years we’ve seen that natural decline begin.

Good luck sadio, arise the Uruguayan Warrior.

He’s been an excellent player for Liverpool.
I’m sure that any slight ill-feeling will disappear in the fullness of time.
He’s barely injured and still good enough for another 2 or 3 years I feel, so it’s a decent enough deal all round.
Very best wishes and thanks to the man.

Genuine question.
What’s fans realistic hopes for Nunez and Diaz next season with regards to what will be a successful season for them with regards to goals and assists?

Mane got 23 goals and 5 assists and was deemed to be in decline and Jota got 21 and 8 and is deemed not good enough.

For me I think both have to be targeting at least 20 goals each.

18 Jun 2022 11:35:02
Diaz to get 12 goals and 12 assists, Nunez to get 20 goals and 8 assists from all games next season.

this idea that Mane is in decline is based on what? his goals output? The rest of his game has been consistently excellent all over the pitch, including last year when it felt like he fell off a cliff. Yet he still scored 16 goals and 9 assists.

It will be interesting to see if Diaz gives us anything close to Mane around the paddock as that has been a massive part of Mane's contribution to the team since he arrived.

Mane is a club legend. One of the best forwards to play for LFC and in the PL, as a whole. I will miss him a lot cos he was a great servant for us. We will move on and get better cos that’s what we do.

As for targets for Dias and Darwin. Dias could get 15 goals in all comps while Darwin could get from 15 to 20 in all comps as well.

50 goals, 20 assists between them. Easy.

We’re going more direct with more crosses and Darwin operating truly as a central striker. For years we’ve played with two wide strikers and a deeper striker, but i think now Klopp and Guardiola both sense a change in footballing tactics which has caused them both to buy central target men for the first time. Less tippy tippy, more get the ball moving quicker.

For me success would be both fit available and consistent performers with 35 + goals between them. I think Diaz is electric, but I feel he is a little less direct than mane and more likely to create more and therefore finish less often than mane.

I don’t know much about Núñez but he needs to be getting 20 goals a season.

50 goals and 20 assists would be some achievement.

That’s more goals and assists than Mane and Jota this season and the club played in every single match that was physically possible.

I’m not sure Bobby and Mane have ever hit those numbers as a two in their prime years together.

18 Jun 2022 14:06:27
Yes it would be some achievement, JK23, but I can see Darwin getting 35-40ish across all comps himself with a few assists. Heady numbers, but I genuinely believe he himself and the hierarchy will be aiming for a 30 goal minimum with obvious onus on him as the striker, while also potentially leaving fractionally more space and time for Salah and Diaz out wide.

I could very well be wrong, but I don’t see us having bought that type of player for that type of money without him truly being front and centre to the plan of attack.

18 Jun 2022 14:10:27
I should add, I don't. Expect Salah to be scoring the same amount with a system change, but if him and Diaz even got 15 each and Darwin got 35, that's still less than the front three got this season.

18 Jun 2022 15:40:53
Quo cheers for the reply mate.

Would be a great season for the pair and us if they achieve that.

And that's where Liverpool fans have become spoiled. Because of the exploits of Salah, Mane and Firmino in the last few years any striker coming in has got to hit the ground running and be a record breaker. Otherwise by Christmas he'll be labelled a flop by expert armchair managers.
It could take a while for the current team and Nunez to get used to each other, let's see how patient people are if it doesn't click overnight.

Because of the exploits of Mane, Salah, Bobby and Jota the standard has been set.

If we want to continue competing the standard has to be kept.

Out of 147 total goals scored across all competitions in 63 games, 102 goals were scored by our frontline of Salah, Mane, Jota, Diaz, Firmino, Minamino and Origi. Now Origi and Mane are gone and Minamino could be following them, leaving Nunez, Eliott and Carvalho to take up the slack. I have doubts an additional forward will be brought in this summer.

If we can get 30 from Salah, 20 from Jota, 10 from Firmino, 25 from Nunez, 15 from Diaz then we would be in good shape and in a similar situation as this past season. The key will be using more rotation and using the 5 substitutes rule more efficiently to involve more of Elliott, Carvalho and whichever U23's are ready to take their shot. (Just writing this I realized how automatic Mane's 120 goals over 6 years -20 per season- were, and how much we will miss him. )
