Rumors about LFC holding talks over Otavio with Porto heating up!
Can play RW and RCM, hence competition for Hendo and backup for Salah.
Not sure where that leaves Elliot though.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great if it comes off. Don't think Elliot need be concerned, he's still finding what sort of midfielder/ winger he is and he's only just turned 19 - plenty of time for him and I doubt he would've been in line for 40+ appearances this season anyway.

I'll be pleased to see players like Elliot, Carvalho, Gordon and Ramsay being integrated into the squad gradually, rather than throwing them in and hoping they succeed.

All of those players could be Liverpool legends (like Trent is on his way to being) or could be nearly men. I'd much rather we take our time and they end up the former rather than the latter.

{Ed0666's Note - the only issue with Elliot is I think he’s gonna naturally become a number 10 same as Carvalho. Will be fun to see it unfold tho.

IB it's a long hard season especially if we do what we did last season. So we need a big squad so there's plenty of room for Elliott mate??.

I have a feeling we're looking for cover for Hendo now rather than cover for Fabinho, with Hendo dropping to 2nd choice DM behind Fab now.
I'd like Hendo to play as much as possible as he's our captain but I just have a feeling that'll be the case.
Can't say I've seen any Otavio but, if it happens, it'll be interesting to see whether he does come in as a CM or as a Salah back-up/ replacement.

In Klopp we trust regardless!

OP, we need another CM option at the very least, not a right winger so if this comes off, I think we are strengthening where we don’t need to.

I really hope we get this player. Another experienced playmaker is what we need. Especially with Keita failing to find any consistency.
To keep the pressure on City we need to try and strengthen our Midfield, cause when Thiago is missing we revert to Trent and Robbo smacking the ball in the box and teams just sitting back. Otavio can dribble and play balls through the lines.

Seems to be gathering pace with the outlets that had the Nunez story first running with it. Interesting few days ahead.

Oli, he has played over 100 games in his career in midfield. Not sure how that doesn't equate to a midfield option.

Ed002 is the man who’ll know if it’s true ?.

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this on many occasions.}

MKS, I have not seen him play that much and the little I have seen oh him, he has played on the right hence, my post. I don't know much about him so if you have watched him a ton then pls, let me know what he is like esp. in CM. Is he an 8? Can he play the 6 better than Hendo can if he comes in for Fab? Thanks in advance.

Octavio is 27. Elliott is 19. This just gives him more time to mature as a footballer. With the 5 substitution rule I’m sure he’ll get plenty of chances.

Oli, think a Bernardo/ De Bruyne hybrid. He's short in stature but very aggressive and strong. Almost bullish like Tevez was. Very quick and great feet so he beats players with ease. Can create a chance from anywhere in the final third or even hit a shot from 20+ yards. Probably his closest thing to a weakness is how unselfish he is. He'll often square a pass for a tap in rather than take a shot on. He is often topping the charts for tackles and assists. He's more or less the complete midfielder. He currently plays right midfield but Porto don't play the same system as us. He is right footed so not an inverted winger. He's a playmaker more than a goal scorer.

I have never seen him play as a holding midfielder (although i've only watched 15-20 games so maybe he has) . I think he probably could either way, but it would be a huge waste of his offensive weapons. I think he'd add a new dimension to our team that we've not had in midfield since we lost Steven Gerrard. He's everything Naby Keita was supposed to be and more.

Thanks, MKS. Based in your appraisal, Octavio would be brilliant on either side of CM but if we are keeping our powder dry for Bellingham then I don’t see a need for him esp if both Naby and Ox seem to be staying this season since they can’t be moved right now.

28 Jun 2022 10:35:38
I guess the question for me, entering into the debate, is not whether we already have enough bodies - after all there's still more than 2 months before the window closes so people like the Ox and even Naby may yet leave - it's whether Otavio is better than what we have.

I haven't seen him play, but I trust Adam's assessment, so on that basis, why not?

Our team is now so fantastic that we are no longer having discussions about 'game changing players' but instead looking at small improvements. For a team that was a week away from a quadruple, we don't need 'open squad surgery'.

We need to follow Brailsford's philosophy of 100 x 1% improvements, and if Otavio presents even a 1% improvement on what we have already, that 1% could be the difference in 2022/ 3.
