Has anybody heard anything about Ox's injury and is the West Ham rumour true would be good to get a little bit of money in for him and even better to get him of the wage bill looking at Elliott and Carvalho in preseason Ox is not getting many minutes this season.

Same for Nat Phillips think it's best he moves on never going to be in are first team plans at the moment I would say his 6th choice behind even Sep and come next season if Koumetio has a good loan he will be behind him to.

Agree0 Disagree0

@Grino - if other players can improve this season, why can’t Nat?

22 Jul 2022 09:31:44
OP 6th choice behind Sepp? Have a word with yourself, mate. As fir Nat, he will be loaned out or sold, IMO.

22 Jul 2022 09:43:18
Dont think he's too far wrong Oli, Sepp excelled in the Championship last 18 months mostly as a teenager! I'll be surprised if Nat gets a permanent move to the Premier League which is what the club seems to want. This would suggest Premier League managers don't rate him as high as some on here. Not as if we are asking crazy money for him. For me Sepp has the higher ceiling.

WDW Nat will not get the game time to improve no way is he playing ahead of VVD Matip Gomez or Konate. Unless we lose all are defenders like before. Nat is 25 and needs to be playing his to good to not even make the bench but if truth be told his not at the level of a top 4 team.

22 Jul 2022 10:24:30
You know we have a decent squad when we’re arguing over who is 5th and 6th best centre back. I remember years ago if you weren’t first you were last.

22 Jul 2022 11:22:48
Correct JK, and arguing about the. 8th and 9th choice midfielders. Something of a wind change since Woy’s days.

22 Jul 2022 11:56:16
WDW unfortunately mate during the Woy days what should have been 8th and 9th midfielders were actually his first choice ones ?.

Nat Phillips is a good player who would improve the squad of any Prem team outside the top 6. I think he suffers from not looking flash. He's rugged in both appearance and style, but also he doesn't get caught out of position very often so he's rarely making desperate slide tackles that are wrongly lauded as excellent defending. Any side getting him for £10-15m is getting a massive bargain.

22 Jul 2022 12:17:43
Sepp played the majority of his games at PNE at right back did he not? Nat played CB at a team that got promoted, not to mention the games he played for Liverpool at CB when we came 3rd. A bit of a difference there i think.
I don't think big Billy even comes into the discussion at this moment really.

22 Jul 2022 12:17:50
Grino, aren’t players supposed to show that they are improving in training, which means that the coaching staff select them as a starting option? Otherwise, what’s the point of training?

22 Jul 2022 12:39:07
There’s several central defenders that have gone on free transfers this Summer, unfortunately for Phillips.
The latest is Mee, from Burnley to Brentford.
Might have to be another loan somewhere, even abroad possibly.
He’d make a good middle defender in a 3, most definitely.

22 Jul 2022 13:10:13
Started at rightback and then played his games on the right of a back 3!Dont really see how it matters, he could handle the Championship as a teenager and the Preston fans loved him. If he wasnt signed up to Liverpool Premier League clubs would have been all over him.

22 Jul 2022 13:20:05
WDW a player can only improve so much in training and needs game time that’s why players go on loan.
Nat did great for us that season everybody was injured but you can’t run a club with your heart and if truth be told he is nowadays near the level we need to challenge city. I think Ox is a great character and seems a really good guy and before his injury was looking outstanding but he to needs to move on because of his injury he is not at the level we need.

22 Jul 2022 15:06:03
The likes of Nat and Ox will get moves closer to the end of the window IMO, it is when teams work there way through their list and look at alternatives. Both I think will leave, still reckon Ox to Newcastle and Nat either loan or permanent to Bournemouth.

22 Jul 2022 15:39:28
@Grino, most players get game time because they have trained well and improved their performance. Nat didn’t just turn up on match day - he put the effort into training that got him picked for the 20 odd games he played for them.

Anyway, it’s all about opinions ??.

I think MKS has got it right. Phillips is your old style defender whose main attributes are hard work, fearlessness and a determination to go through a wall for your team, without the silky, smooth, elegant skills you see elsewhere. It takes all types of footballers, doesn't it? And Phillips is not one fifth or one sixth of footballers like Maguire, Stones, White, Tarkowski and others. So he's worth more than 10-15 Million to me. He can give a solid 5-7 years to a team somewhere in the middle, at 20-25 Million. And he'll accept far lower wages per week, unlike the clowns named above.

22 Jul 2022 17:53:30
Phillips is clearly a fan favourite and so he should be. He stepped up the season we needed him and did himself proud. But other players who have contributed far more over numerous seasons don’t seem to get the same love as him.

Truth is he’s never ever been selected ahead of Vvd, Matip, Gomez and got game time due to 3 those 3 having season ending injuries. He was then sent on loan last season after Konate came In.

Wherever he ends up like Origi I wish him all the best and the club he signs for will be getting a player who wears his heart on his sleeve.

If he stays then he’ll be getting paid a very good wage to watch a lot of football because I don’t see him playing ahead of the first choice 4.
