Cannot believe some of the negativity on here. We just outplayed Man City and yet still people are moaning.

Also, am I only the one who thinks Man City's goal should have been ruled out. Did Adrian not have both hands on the ball? Foden clearly fouled him.

{Ed025's Note - yes your the only one..

Agree0 Disagree0

With regard to City’s goal, Adrian may have had one hand and a fingertip on the ball but it certainly wasn’t under his control to the extent the attacker had no right to play for it. It was just poor goalkeeping overall. I’ve come around to the idea that having Adrian in the squad is a great thing, as he’s clearly a huge help to incoming players and a well-liked individual, but I just hope Alisson and Kelleher are on the mend.
That said, Liverpool were excellent yesterday. City created very, very little of their own making, and were largely outplayed from start to finish.

{Ed001's Note - he is 3rd choice, you don't get a world class keeper to be third choice!}

Ed, I know! I was initially in the out camp for Adrian, not being aware of what he does behind the scenes etc. Whilst I am no longer in that camp, I still hope he just isn’t needed particularly often this season.

You’re not the only one who thought it was a foul. Everyone in the pub I was in also thought that. If he didn’t kick it when it was under Adrian’s control as per the following definition of control (while the ball is between his hands or between his hand and any surface (e. g. ground, own body) ) then he impeded him as he was trying to get it under control.

Guess it doesn’t really matter now but that’s my thoughts on it!

The ball clearly slips through his two hands before the attacker won it. It wasn’t a foul even though initially I thought it was. That’s where var helps as no way ref could see that.

Depends on which pub you were in Jonop.

LFC pub = no goal
City pub = clean goal

Because we won, happy to say that it was a clean goal at the end of the day ?.

I don't think he had control of the ball when Foden poked it. Goal for me.

I’ll be honest. I thought it was a foul. Easy to say weak goalkeeping but he had two hands on the ball for a split second and it was kicked out of his hand. He made the mistake of not being standing up when it happened because doesn’t the keeper usually get a free kick when they are touched while upright? Perhaps if he’d rolled around for a while that would have helped. I’m awfully cynical these days.

You don’t need to have control of the ball as such. Control in the rule book includes having a hand on the ball while the ball is in contact with another surface which is what happened yesterday.

With Ed25 on this one. I’ve seen it a few times from diff angles and I think it was the correct decision.

Foul for me, both hands on the ball, ball on the ground.

I doubt it was even considered to be looked at because VAR were focusing on the offside. If it wasn't flagged offside then I reckon it would have been spoken about a lot more.

Edd001 who impressed you most yesterday? I thought our midfield looked really great and it's still very early until they hit peak form and fitness. Hendersons high press was top notch.

{Ed001's Note - Klopp, he got it right.}

Ed001 thiago looks soo special. Do you think he can maintain this level for 2 plus years?

{Ed001's Note - yes, he doesn't rely on physicality so should do a few years yet.}

31 Jul 2022 21:04:28
Ed01, I thought Hendo was brilliant on the press and most importantly, in making the 3rd man runs from midfield and attacking the inside right channel hence, City’s cB’s could not pick him up. This was something Klopp complained about earlier in preseason so good to see that his words were heeded.

Also, what are your thoughts on Bobbie’s perf? I thought he was good in the press and also dropping deep to help counter City’s overload in midfield by shadowing Rodri and not letting him play freely. Cheers, man.

{Ed001's Note - the team played well as whole but this is not when it matters. They need to play with that intensity against the smaller clubs. It is easy to be up to face the reigning champs, not so easy when it is Forest or Southampton.}

Agreed, ED01. We need to do this week in, week out during the season, like we did in the 19/ 20 season winning 21 of our first 22 games (one draw at Utd) . If we do that, the title will be ours, IMO.
