Ed001 I thought we did well to get a draw today we seemed well of the pace. I can't really say anybody played well today. I was shocked at how poor VVD and Matip were today when we got it back to 1-1 I thought we had it but then Matip gives the ball away and as soft as the pen was VVD normally just sorts that out and to even give Mitrovic the chance to go over was very poor defending. But on a brighter note Nunez has got a lot of improvement in him and I think if he had started today I think we would have won they seemed quite untroubled at the back till Nunez came on and he caused mayhem back there for them.

Agree0 Disagree0

Complacency on our part across the field. I would imagine klopp will sort that out. The negativity from the draw is incredible. Not just on here but across the Internet. Disappointing but I’m not sure what we could have done when the entire team played so badly. Nunez is looking great though. Onwards!

Dunno what game you watched but Matip was our best defender by a mile. Admittedly the competition was gash. We just got schooled by a team we thought we’’d roll over. Still think we’re going to regret not buying a decent midfielder given our midfield’s ages and liability to pick up injuries. But onwards to Palace.

PS Thiago is made of crisps.

With great squad depth you’re players are meant to be stepping up and giving performances that gives the manager a real headache on who he selects for the next game.

Today it feels like a few actually played themselves out of the starting line up for the next game.

Just listened to Klopps post match conference and he said we currently have 8 midfielders despite some of them being injured. Perhaps it’s a slip of the tongue or Mis calculation but if not is that him suggesting Carvalho is not going to play midfield.

8 being Hendo, Thiago, Fab, Milner, Naby, Kieta, Jones and Elliot.

We really do need some freshness in that midfield. Crying out for a new creative midfielder.

AOE I reckon a vast majority of the negativity online are mostly from trolls or bettors, who are gutted to have lost money. Someone collapsed for staking a LIV win with big borrowed money in me area?. Just 1 game out of 38 but I love the delusion amongst Arsenal fans. Fingers crossed.

Matip was our best defender! Really Jimble! He was atrocious.

06 Aug 2022 19:57:07
Certainly wasn't a good day. But we take a point and move on. No need to panic, still haven't lost a premier league game all year. In klopp we trust.

I thought matip made a few good tackles and blocks, so defended well enough, but on the ball was poor. One of the things that was great about mane was the ability to get us up the pitch, and that’s what we missed today I think, it seemed like the midfield and forwards were miles apart, and as you said, couldn’t really get salah in the game without long balls. Very sloppy start, but so far to go.

06 Aug 2022 20:30:00
The Matip hating is unreal, I understand Keita and Jota weren't playing so a scapegoat is needed but was he worst that VVD our 60+ million pound player, not from what I saw.

06 Aug 2022 20:42:48
I never said Matip was are worse player but he did not play good nobody did we where awful all over the pitch we looked like we where a few weeks behind Fulham but n fitness. I thought we did well to get a draw but at 1-1 if Matip and VVD between don’t cause that pen we go on and win that game.
One thing for sure I don’t expect us to be that bad again all season.

06 Aug 2022 21:00:34
What did Matip do to cause the Pen?

06 Aug 2022 21:23:05
Told VVD to foul him JK23.

06 Aug 2022 21:56:36
Shame he didn’t tell Trent he had a man on for the first goal.

Bloody Matip.

06 Aug 2022 22:58:21
There's more to a game than one tackle for a pen JK. Matip all game won tackles, then gave the ball away. He gave the ball away in a dangerous position, which led to the pen, when there were better options where to play it.

06 Aug 2022 23:22:06
Boris does that mean Hendo is to blame for the first goal as he gave the ball away?

Or is it different rules for different players.

Every goal we concede this season will be someone’s fault then as they would have given the ball away.

07 Aug 2022 00:09:28
So Matip pushing 20 yards out of position and passing the ball straight to a Fulham player, not getting back, and Mitrovic being able to run into the massive gap he's left to get 1v1 in the box with van Dijk is not a significant contributing factor to the penalty?

That's a bit more than beaten to a loose ball in midfield isn't it?

07 Aug 2022 09:16:31
That’s it something red Matip’s part in the pen was massive he gave the ball away like that all game but to do it and be near the half way line then he leaves a massive gap for the forward to run into are box. But then the challenge from VVD was very poor at the point we had them on the back foot and for the only time in the game where looked like we was the most likely to to win.

07 Aug 2022 09:38:05
Mental how the stats show that Matip had the 2nd most passes in a game behind Vvd and he had the 4th highest pass completion behind Carvalho, Thiago and Milner who all didn’t play 90 mins.

I’m not saying Matip played well and him giving possession away clearly led to the penalty. But Hendo gave possession away for the first goal. At least if you’re going to be critical be across the board.

Without Naby and Jota it’s clear Matip is the whipping boy. Just because fans don’t like him it doesn’t mean he cannot be judged fairly.

Klopp chooses Matip to play over Gomez and the whipping boys want Gomez to start. Only one can be wrong so it must surely be Klopp then.

07 Aug 2022 10:16:46
JK, why is it that any time anyone says anything about Matip, Keita or Jota, you accuse them of scapegoating or wanting a whipping boy, but you didn't bat an eyelid when people were criticising Firmino or Trent in match chat? And any time I was looking at the chat during the game they were getting more of it than Matip.

Is it only scapegoating when it's certain players whilst it's ok for others? It seems to me that you have favoured and unfavoured players, just like literally everyone else here.

07 Aug 2022 11:20:21
SR i didn’t realise you could see my eyelids on the leg chat. I must have left the bloody web cam on again.

I thought every player who was criticised yesterday deserved it. The starting 11 in the first half were poor with some a lot worse than others. Nunez, Milner and Elliot and Salah in 2nd half were the only ones who came away with any credit.

I believe we drew the game yesterday because of everyone’s individual performances which resulted in a poor team performance.

Perhaps I’m wrong and the result was all down to Matip.

07 Aug 2022 14:10:05
JK, mate.

You're a smart bloke, do you not see the contradiction in what you just posted? You say the entire team was deserving of criticism (I don't disagree there), and then proceed to sarcastically comment that the whole result must be Matip's fault.

Since I can't see anyone trying to blame Matip, and Matip alone, for the result, not to mention that I see as many people defending him as criticising him, the implication is that you think criticism of Matip is not valid.

07 Aug 2022 16:35:52
Sr you’ve clearly made up your mind on what you believe my thinking is so regardless of what I say it’s not going to make any difference.
