Unbelievable the way barcalona going about things now and thd state they in. Not that long ago,2006-2011 they seemed to be perfect club, winning champ leagues with 5/ 6 academy players and few big signings mixed with them. And playing outstanding football into bargain. I never particularly liked Barcelona or madrid but I greatly admired that Barcelona team for how they played.

Agree0 Disagree0

I’d imagine it was down to the fans putting pressure on because they thought they should have done even better. Fans are never happy, they never see what they have until it’s gone.

footyfan mate, I hope you are not serious here and just trying to be funny!
Because that post doesn't make any sense.

A simple example of system failure. A hyper-successful generation of players win everything, the fans demand more, one of the best players of all time leverages his position to practically own the club, fans demand more, president placates said player otherwise he’s voted out, president spends without limits otherwise he’s voted out, president tries to make fans happy otherwise he’s voted out. Repeat.
The above said, fans did not force Barcelona to spend nearly half a billion on Coutinho, Dembele and Griezmann.

You say thar Lowe, but i certainly did not see them complaining when they signed them. They were the players the crybabies were demanding that they signed. Then, when it all goes wrong, they blame the club for spending too much money on fees and wages for players who were ‘obviously not good good enough’. Everton and United supporters have done the exact same. They love to moan about the running of the club but there can be no doubt that their own behaviour has been influential in the decisions that the club have made. None of these groups of supporters were complaining when these signings were made, on the contrary, they couldn’t stop telling us how made up they were to finally get everything they’d ever wanted.

AW - The fans have had a huge part to play in Barca’s mess, without a doubt. As you say, Barcelona fans are crybabies - possibly the biggest bunch of crybabies in Europe. They would vote out a president without a second thought if that president did not pacify their ridiculous demands. However, I’ve read a number of articles saying Messi was paid £460million by the club over the course of his last 3 seasons at Barca, and that Griezmann’s weekly earnings from Barcelona alone were around €800k. Whatever pressure there was from fans, financial mismanagement on that scale should land directors in jail for a significant period. Astonishingly poor governance. Their downfall will be an enjoyable one.

They’re huge club but they seem more of a social media entity than a football club at times, instead of accepting a few year rebuild they’re gambling future earnings away the now. Honestly not been impressed with their transfers for years and I don’t expect much from them this season.

I don't know how they got be where they are but you would think with them in such a mess financially they would place there faith in there academy players and straighten mess out. with the quality of academy players they produce I'm sure they could be competitive in top half of la liga. As opposed to but likes of lewandski at 34 and big fransfer fee and big wages.

Actually kicker it does make sense in Barca’s case, of course fans aren’t solely to blame, but I think they have a part in Barca’s case. I’ve heard that The Barcelona president is voted in by the fans and therefore they have to appease fans to stay in that position. We know from our own fan page that fans live in a fifa/ football manager world and demand big signings.

The second part of that failing is the lavish spending they’ve done has been very poorly judged - Greizman, demebele etc for massive transfer fees and outrageous wages.

Of course, "the fans" have a say in how Barcelona is run. They own the club! More precisely, the club is owned by approx. 140,000 "socios" or "club members. If you want to imagine the sheer number of those "socio" voices that can influence things, imagine a full Nou Camp stadium (100,000 capacity) and add another 40%.

So maybe that's why it's such a huge mess now. But incredible that it wasn't a mess for so so many years and was running so smoothly, in the past.

Aray we (apparently) vote people into 10 downing street but turns out have zero say on anything.

You cannot compare the fan ownership of Barcelona and British politics.

12 Aug 2022 14:07:05
Gaga why can’t I?

I’m pretty sure I just did ?.

Yes you are right you did compare them. I still don't get the comparison but maybe draw a line under this one and get back to the more interesting Liverpool posts.

I think the difference with Barcelona now is that the banks want their money back and FFP has finally caught up with their underhand dealings.
