I'm still all for the " we need a midfielder " brigade, but a new midfielder wouldn't of changed last nights results, I think Palace defended really well, was good on the counter, they deserved theor goal, they was very unlucky not to have 2 goals, as where we, we created chances, just didn't execute them, Nunez will learn a valuable lesson as that was outrageous and totally out of order it's early days, we still have the 2nd best team in the league, and I expect us to be uo theor with city again.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I thought Phillips was good up until his pace was exposed for the goal. He seemed to lose confidence then and even his passing became a little wayward.

With Trent pushing so far forward Phillips at right centre half is in a massive amount of space for fast forwards to run into and he doesn’t have that pace to get back.

He wasn’t to blame for last nights results as I thought he had a decent game overall until coming off. I think he just needs to realise he doesn’t have to battle to win everything. Lovren used to be a nightmare for it and ended up getting caught out then half the time.

You don't just unlearn a bad temper like that. It takes serious work.

Rooney learned quickly Adam mate, think yesterday will be a good learning for him coz he was being kicked and palace cbs were consistently Putting their hands on he's traps for out jumping him. Which he was already furious with them and shoving he's head was too far for him to just let it go tho.

We were ineffective in midfield pretty much all night and losing ball in midfield so cheaply and not adequately covering Fabinho when he stepped out of his position was the direct cause of that goal. It exposed Phillips lack of pace as it only needed one pass after that. There’s literally no positives to take from that game other than it eventually finished and it didn’t get any worse. Anyone still thinking we’re capable of challenging a very ominous looking City side are just delusional.

Play like that next Monday against United and we gift them three easy points.

Two days ago hair pulling was being defended and now sticking your head into someone’s face in a forward movement.

Christ if those two incidents were against us we would be starting a civil war. It’s very unlike us LFC fans to be biased.

Man, pretty rough for Milner and Elliot to get criticism for not covering Fabinho rushing in and getting turned inside out on a counter.

Palace defended deep all game. The spaces we had to play in but failed to take advantage of was shameful. All in the middle of the park between Palace defence and our midfield.

Man City’s last game was exactly the same. Their result? 4 goals from midfield.

“But we beat them in the Community Shield” yes, we had played more of a pre-season than them and they missed plenty of opportunities.

The result spurred them on and made our shambles put out the deck chairs for the season. Klopp has some serious work to do because we looked clueless against a deep block (again) last night.

I agree with Faith here and don’t understand how Fabinho isn’t getting criticised for his part in their goal? He needed to win the hall or take out eze and he did neither. Fabinho’s form in last few months has been really poor imo.

I thought Phillips acctually did okay all game, palace let him have the ball and it should have been up to someone from midfield to drop deep to pick it up off him every time.

{Ed025's Note - I thought Phillips was awful myself bmena..

Refereeing has started out as it did last season whereby they let too much go and have this stupid high-bar to hide behind. Tierney shouldn't be reffing our games either.

However, no excuses for Darwin's red. He fell into Andersson's trap. He doesn't have a history of it so hopefully he'll learn and be better for it.

I guess people will make up their mind bout certain weaknesses and that will create the narrative. But I do think that blaming the whole midfield for that goal is unfair. Tactical foul springs to mind and neither Trent or Fabs got close enough to influence that play.

The issue is we have Phillips who will never be good enough for us and a Midfeild made out of Papermache, I can see us being at a pint later in the season where we have only 1 or 2 fit players in Midfield and that's a big worry. I also think we need a back up attacker aswell.
