I just phoned the club and left a message for Fabinho to tell him the PL has started. ?.

Agree0 Disagree0

I could have sworn the first goal came from salah not passing the ball with a load of bodies swarming him then they broke away. I can't think of anything fabinho related from last night that led to thay result.
We need lots of improvement in the forward areas even robbed and trents crosses into the box. The Greek scouse was awful with crosses when he came on. You could blame that on lack of game time maybe.
Look we have injuries and were not yet sharp in all areas. Last night was a good result given what nunez did. We move on. i believe we'll come back better and especially nunez.
The world Cup is around the corner. All teams including city ARE going to drop points before and after the world Cup. Hope is not lost.

To be fair to him, he's in midfield on his own most of the time.

Fabinho looked better when we went down to ten men.

Personally I think it was Jota, Naby and Matips fault. They hardly contributed to the cause last night did they ?.

I'm with you jk there, Naby out.

I could have said it about VVD, Klopp, Robbo the list is long. I just have the hump with Fabs atm he looks so bloody ponderous. He makes Shelvey look mobile.

I’m not one of these people trying to claim that a new midfielder would make everything better, but the lack of cover for Fabinho is concerning me. He’s been rubbish for most of this calendar year and has had an awful start to this season. It’s the one position we have no cover for and I think maybe if we did it could lift his performances, in the same way Tsimikas did for Robbo when he was in a bad run of form. Bajcetic could be that player, but he’s only 17 i believe.

I don’t really understand the ‘we need a new midfielder’ debate, because most people can’t agree on what kind of midfielder we need to sign and how they’d improve us. Thiago and Fabinho should not need replacing (though their struggles are really concerning) but Henderson clearly does. Elliott is more than likely going to have pushed him out of Klopps best eleven by the end of the season, and probably would have done last season had he not got injured. Jones will hopefully also take some minutes off of Thiago, Carvalho perhaps could as well. Milner, Ox and Keita are not the worst ‘break glass’ options in the world, all of them are possibly in their last season at the club.

Bellingham will probably join imo but i don’t see how he would fix this mess, given he doesn’t play in the position we really need an extra body. I think beyond Fabinho being crap, we could just be experiencing some teething pains as we move between an older group of players who may not quite be up to it anymore, or at least lacking the hunger and physicality the once did, with a group of younger players who may not be fully up to speed with the requirements to play for Liverpool.

We’ve seen this dichotomy play out over the two games. Against Fulham, we went for experience and familiarity, only for all the experienced players to let us down with their lack of intensity and poor attitude. Against Palace, we tried to switch it up and start a few more younger/ hungrier players, which fixed the intensity issue but revealed a certain naivety and unfamiliarity in terms of our style of play. We were trying to force the ball into Nunez too hard and forgot there were other ways to score a goal, and even seemed to forget that Salah and Diaz existed until we went down to 10 men. Then Nunez did the most stereotypically rookie thing he could have done and got sent off for no reason.

I think we could see a few more performances like this and have a lot of frustration before it gets better. Ultimately, how well this season pans out will be down to how well the new blood steps up and remoulds the team in their image. Either they do, planting their flag in the sand and unequivocally cementing themselves as our most important players, or they don’t, and we finish way behind Man City with a team that is chopping and changing all the time.

The only thing that I am certain of is that we won’t be winning the title with the likes of Henderson, Matip and Firmino playing every single game.

It’s evident you didn’t attend the game. As it was only Fabinho coming short for the ball in the deeper part of the midfield. Milner was nonexistent and Elliot showed neat and tidy promises but hardly took the game by the scruff of the neck. It’s clear as day that the only midfielder we have who can play a penetrative pass is Thiago.

I'm fabinho's biggest fan, but he's been poor in the first 2 games, it can't be denied. Looks ponderous, struggling to make decisions, just off the pace in general. I would say that's in possession/ attacking, he's still doing his job defensively. I'm sure he'll come good once he's in his stride, and could be related to the changes in midfield, just something I noted when watching the game last night.

I don't understand how anyone can say a player has been rubbish for a calendar year when we've been unbeaten in the League, won 2 trophies and got to the CL final. Seems again like we've achieved all that with 10 players.
It's a poor comment for me which doesn't really stand up to our results this year.
Maybe he hasn't been top notch every game but rubbish? Nah, poor comment imo.

16 Aug 2022 23:46:04
Well i didn’t say he was rubbish for a whole calendar year did I. I said he was rubbish in most (or a lot, whatever helps you sleep at night) games during this current calendar year, which would amount to about 5 months of footie. Nor did I say that his contributions were so poor that it was tantamount to playing with 10 men. Disagree if you want but there’s no need to start strawmanning me to prove your point.

I would similarly say that simply listing our achievements as a team as a counter to my argument regarding the form of an individual player is equally as bad a strawman. Football is a team sport, and winning teams can have players that play above the average level of their teams or they can below. Our record sounds great on paper, but ignoring the context is to bury your head in the sand. We lost control of many, many games last season, and had a lot of rubbish first halves as well. Fabinho was not solely responsible for this, of course not, but he was the one whose absence of form seemed to affect us the most. He is normally so brilliant and consistent that the second he wasn’t at that level every single week, it stuck out like a sore thumb. He is also a fair bit younger than Henderson and Thiago, so whereas their age or being overplayed may excuse some of their inconsistencies, it does not excuse Fabinho.

On the same note, again, if you disagree with me Frode Kippers, that is fine, but there’s really no need to patronise me and appeal to your evidently superior footballing intellect by virtue of being fortunate enough to go the game. While I appreciate that football can sometimes seem like a different game when watched on tv, as opposed to when you’re in the stands, I also think there were many perfectly knowledgeable people who watched the match on tv and also felt that Fabinho wasn’t very good.

I could similarly patronise you for your assessment of Elliott, as everyone i know who went the match on monday also said he was fantastic, so what then? Could it be that people who go the game all have different opinions as well, and aren’t all part of some hive mind master race who know things the rest of us don’t? The boy has been brilliant in his limited minutes so far and i’ve seen him play several very progressive and positive passes, and i’m sure the stats would back that up, but i respect your right to a different opinion as football can be quite subjective at times.

We can all have different opinions without being snobby to one another.
