Does anyone think we might gazump the Matheus Nunes deal?

Agree0 Disagree0

17 Aug 2022 01:04:33
Would rather Sukic to be honest.

17 Aug 2022 07:31:01
We’d need to sell someone first to raise the money for Klopp.

17 Aug 2022 08:39:04
If the right player was available then Klopp would probably go for them. The fact that that we're keeping the powder dry just means the right player isn't available this window.
Just because fans present what they see as suitable names doesn't mean that they're on that exclusive shortlist of Klopp's.

17 Aug 2022 09:00:24
This right player talk is absolute B#%#%# it’s the best way to saying NO we are not signing anyone without saying no! Right player apart from stats how do they know his personality etc?
Was ox naby to name a few the right player plighted by injuries?
Thousands of players out there!

{Ed001's Note - you don't think they do research? The only bull is your constant aggressive rants at everything LFC. The problem is that there may be thousands out there but we are not buying dog muck players to fill a squad for League Two. We are looking to buy players to improve one of the best teams in the world and that is a rarefied market. It is just a shame that seems to escape your notice in your desperate desire for a shiny new toy. The club have shown that if the right player, ie Diaz, does come available, they will jump straight in and get him. It is clearly not a way of saying we won't sign anyone, it is saying we won't sign just anyone to make Jay Dub Red happy for ten minutes before he then spends the rest of the season moaning about the just anyone we bought to shut him up.}

Regarding selling a player (s) just out of curiosity what clubs have shown genuine interest (spoken to player/ club) in any of our players this summer, does anyone know? Or maybe Ed 02 can give some input if about?

{Ed002's Note - I don't think Liverpool are looking to sell any more players aside from those who have already left. There may be loans for one or two more youngsters.}

17 Aug 2022 09:19:06
How do we know if a player is available?

{Ed002's Note - Talk to his agent.}

17 Aug 2022 09:25:06
Jay red u seem to think where Man U, scrapping the barrel for a name to placate the fans and look at where that’s got them. 1 billion in spend with zero to show for it. I’d rather we didn’t sign anyone if they don’t improve what we have.

Who knows how good this guy is but before only wolves are in for him shows there are doubts that he’s good enough for an elite club like LFC but I guess your still stuck in the hodgson days where signing mirelles was amazing….

17 Aug 2022 09:41:42
Tchouameni was the right player. So we’re waiting for him to flop at Real coz we have no alternative targets ? I was sure we’d sign a midfielder or at least see Carvalho be the guy. But clearly None of this happened. I think January with a hope of reaching Istanbul is the target, maybe we’re in a little transition period between 2 Klopp teams and going toe to toe with City for the league is being pushed back a year.
Try do well in the group stage, get a midfielder in Jan, go one better try win number 7.

{Ed002's Note - Tchouameni was never joining Liverpool - they made no offer to Monaco.}

17 Aug 2022 10:03:15
We've played two League games, Carvalho has appeared in both and he's still a kid.
Give him a chance.

17 Aug 2022 10:13:18
Ed002 cheers for the reply mate. That’s obviously to see if the player is interested. How do we know if the club is willing to sell. Is it a case of just asking them kr submitting an official bid.

{Ed002's Note - The agent would know.

The whole process is something like this:

The scouting staff will prepare reports on players and provide an idea about price; coaches will look at the players but have no idea about price; they will go to a Director of Football (or perhaps a mix of the finance director and others responsible for the monies) and say we would like this player and we think he will cost £x. Checking against available budgets, the club will likely approach his agent to ask if the player might be interested in the move and a broad idea about the package the player would want, and any broad idea about what the club would want - and what terms they may be open to (cash up front, spread over a year etc.). This sits inside the overall transfer process which looks something like this:

The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally to negotiate about a transfer and even to the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve the showing of serious interest (perhaps through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak formally to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.

Alternatively, a selling club may ask an agent to find a new club for a player and he will talk directly to potential selling sides about the fee, personal terms and interest. They will typically grant permission for the player to also speak to interested parties.

The rest of the time agents will be on fishing trips trying to find interest in their players.

In terms of what happens when the negotiations take place, broad agreement (player available and open to discussions, understanding of the price) will already have been reached. The clubs will meet to discuss the details of the transfer fee, other costs associated with the move and the structure of the payments and any additional fees (e.g another €5M for winning the Champions League etc.) but this does not take a "few days".}

Ed002 ? top quality reply that and much appreciated.

I’m guessing Utd missed step 1 of the whole process when going for De Jong 12 weeks ago.

Waiting for the right player is a sensible strategy for players that will strengthen the first XI. This shows that the club is planning for the long term.

However, this midfield mix has several issues if Klopp intends to play the system he is persisting with. If that does not get remedied then expect to see more of the same.

For those of you that point to last season's near historic quad challenge - it's possible that we achieved that despite our midfield issues. Two things can be true at the same time. That doesn't mean you'll get away with it again.

If it is not the midfield, then why have we been flashing our knickers at Bissouma, Bellingham, Neuhaus, Tchouameni and why did we struggle in the PL top 4 head to heads last season? I'd be keen to hear opinions.

17 Aug 2022 10:44:04
LFCmad I don’t think we are like Utd at all!
I just think the middle is weak and injury prone and it’s needs reinforcement! I’m not crying out for Bellingham or anything just a good reinforcement.

17 Aug 2022 10:58:58
Jay - Who is the good reinforcement? We have 6 senior midfielders, yes there are injuries but that doesn’t change the fact they are here and we’re paying for them and as ed2 says, unlikely to sell. Then we have youth players including Jones, Elliot, Carvalho, Bajcetic.
So who is good reinforcement when we’re not going to sell? assuming you’re happy to stockpile the squad yes, then just interested when you say good reinforcement are you talking about another squad player to be the 10th midfielder or the new 4th midfielder or the next 1-3 midfielder?

17 Aug 2022 11:02:03
How much say does the manager get do you think Ed? It would be different at each club you’d think but Klopp for example wouldn’t be watching let’s say the Belgian league every week or anything. I think the manager should have input definitely but i think the analysts and scouts are paid enough to be trusted. Didn’t United want Pau Torres but opted for Martinez because of the manager? If Klopp said he wanted player x but the recruitment team said player y is better if it was me i think i’d side with the recruitment team?

{Ed002's Note - It varies club by club.}

17 Aug 2022 13:50:29
I mean little Carvalho playing midfield Rigs. He seems to be getting used out on the left.

17 Aug 2022 17:33:45
Faith tiktoxalde and naby should of been gone long ago!
Hendo (love the man ) his legs are going and will pick up more injuries!
Thiago very injury prone!
Milner be 37 he’s fit etc but his brain isn’t the same it’s always 2 touch too more now with him but he does do a job and a good fill in!
Jones (like him too) just don’t think he will make it with us he doesn’t make the most of his chances.
Elliot is very young but it will come!
Carvahlo is unproven at this level and like Elliot still young and it’s a lot of pressure on them both!
Leave fabs he will be run ragged and will end up picking up knocks!
So who is a good reinforcement you ask?
Well luckily I’m
Not paid to tell u that the scouts are but I’m
Sure there is plenty!
Do I want to stockpile mids definitely not!
But we all know Keita and ox should of been gone and other players in there!
Middle is our weakest part of our team!
Again all my opinion slaughter me with the Ed’s all you want and it’s just my view!

17 Aug 2022 18:08:13
Perhaps we should have left our Scouts on furlough.

17 Aug 2022 22:53:49
you're opinion is fine. But we aren't talking about what could have happened in the last 2- 3 years. We're talking about now. It's wasting energy going on each player one by one about their injuries, should have been sold when none of that opinion changes the fact that they are here now.

perhaps the real point you need to be making is about Klopp being terrible at recruiting midfielders and not being cut throat enough to have made the changes you've suggested years ago!
