15 Nov 2022 16:49:14
Absolutely agree.

15 Nov 2022 18:43:38
With posts like these it would appear the boring times are already here.

15 Nov 2022 19:08:21
I'm looking forward to it myself. going to stick my fiver on Croatia ?.

15 Nov 2022 19:34:42
They'll go up to the semis maybe, Irish, but I don't think further.

15 Nov 2022 19:35:26
I love the world cup personally. always have since being a young lad watching va n basten. dino zoff. Maradona and many more legends. The rubbishness of it being in Qatar and mid-season has ruined it this time. but I'll still watch it. Really fancy a south American team to pick up cup. Still could be worse. could be south Africa with them annoying vuvuzalas.

15 Nov 2022 19:48:15
Irish your throwing that fiver away. I'm backing nunez and going Uruguay. also throwing a fiver away haha.

{Ed025's Note - both of you might as well throw them fivers down a grid, or better still donate them to bobbys wages fund...hes only on £9,360,000 a year so with your fivers he may be able to keep the heating on for a bit longer.. :)

15 Nov 2022 19:52:56
Is that worse than sweet Caroline, three lions or mr brightside?

15 Nov 2022 19:57:20
I'd have fancied brazil if they hadvd picked firmino.
.

15 Nov 2022 20:10:38
Digger. probably better without him.
Sweet Caroline is a effing tune Fatwallet.

15 Nov 2022 20:16:01
Some quality players there Magico, not too many of that quality in this world cup.

You guys will be eating your words ? @50/ 1 unbeaten since the Euros ?.

15 Nov 2022 20:26:54
Can't see past Brazil myself, but I hope its a good tournament.

Obviously there are all sorts of external factors, but purely on a football level I've always enjoyed world cups. 2010 being my favourite tournament, great songs, great fans and a football that did what it wanted.

I just hope this doesn't turn out to be a shocker.

15 Nov 2022 20:33:29
Holland for me, feel like with Virg missing the last big one he’ll be pushing so hard for this one! And they have some cracking young talent that are well inform at the moment.

15 Nov 2022 20:52:02
Never missed a World Cup and I've been watching since I was 12ish (I'm 62 now) . It's the height of football excellence, for me. Not many will agree, so I wish you a good day.

{Ed025's Note - this is the first one i have not been very excited about, too many negatives about it for me and it stinks of corruption, i might well get into it though as i love my footy so i will play it by ear..

15 Nov 2022 21:13:39
Love the World Cup. Truly as close to a festival of football as you can get. Big names and little known players from all over the world. Shocks, upsets, controversy and great moments of quality. Normally I’d say, why be so curmudgeonly about it?

This year in particular symbolises the whole hearted sham that FIFA has been though. Real mixed feelings about it this year, particularly for all those workers that died in the name of corruption and greed, but if it were boycotted then they would have died for nothing. Weirdly, I feel that the only way to honour them is to watch so that their deaths were wholly not in vain.

Screw you FIFA and Qatar. This is not what being a football fan is about.

15 Nov 2022 22:18:12
I'am with you 25. My lad asked me if I was going to watch it. Being honest I probably wasn't going to but then remembered watching my 1st World Cup with my Dad. Espana 82 and really enjoyed it. So will watch it and not spoil it for my lad.

{Ed025's Note - thats fair enough alf, i will probably go to the pub to watch the england games just to get out the house, i will spend most of time slagging off the players and the manager then move on to a liverpool/everton debate, then wake up the next morning wearing half an uneaten kebab.. :)

15 Nov 2022 22:28:25
Ed025, I completely agree with you about the corruption in the game and I place all of that at FIFA's doorstep. Even as a kid I used to read about Havelange and his cronies slowly slowly ruining the game with their corruption. I think the problem is defining the clear line between sport and business. It's everywhere not just football. Do you remember when only "true amateurs" were allowed into the Olympics? Now Olympic athletes drive around in Ferraris and Lamborghinis, and it's permitted in the rules.

I've always felt that life is best when things are either black or white. The sad reality is that everything is just a different shade of grey. And so it is with football too.

{Ed025's Note - could not agree more ArAy mate..

15 Nov 2022 21:00:12
Italy lads. They’ve gone from strength to strength since the euros.

16 Nov 2022 00:15:53
The corruption is one thing, but the deaths of thousands of workers is another. Couldn’t get with the Russia World Cup and can’t get with this. Same s*** different a*** holes.

16 Nov 2022 03:19:02
I'm supporting the USA, but based on their 2 warmup matches, I'll be shocked if they win a point. It's a shame since there's quite a bit of talent there.

Otherwise, I'm just happy to watch!

16 Nov 2022 06:52:14
aoe, Italy are going to struggle mate, Big time ??.

16 Nov 2022 06:31:29
Ed025 I did love the World Cup but international football get worse every year. Think the last World Cup I enjoyed was was France98 since then the quality has been awful and the so called best two footballers ever have never shown up. Spain 82 was my first one with Zico and co. Then Maradona lit up the next few with great German teams. I cannot think of one player or country that excites me anymore and with that clown in charge of England I hope we go out in the group stages just to make sure he get fired but no doubt the FA will pick somebody as useless to replace him.

{Ed025's Note - yeah I’m with you grino. I don’t know whether it’s the overkill of football on television or just that the standards have dropped but my enjoyment is definitely on the wane mate. Like you I used to love the World Cup but now I can take it or leave it because it’s just not the same these days. But maybe it could just me being old..

16 Nov 2022 07:20:05
Italy will be grand if they get into the groups stages Irish, mark my words.

16 Nov 2022 07:22:54
I would be more excited if we didn’t have a complete and utter nob in charge of England!

16 Nov 2022 12:24:30
ArAy1969 like you, I've been watching the WC since I was 10 with Mexico '86 as my first one. El Diez killed it. Have only missed one WC since then (Italia 90).

Personally, won't be watching such a wretched, money-grabbing and corrupt excuse of a WC. An absolute disgrace of a tournament to everything sports is supposed to project and stand for: Equality, camaraderie, togetherness and the breaking of societal barriers and so on. Peace and Love to all.

16 Nov 2022 14:45:41
aoe, I think you need to see if they're playing first mate, otherwise I would have fancied them myself ?.

16 Nov 2022 12:25:51
One day edd you'll wake up wearing a Liverpool kit, firmino lovedoll beside ya kebab all over his pearlies.

{Ed025's Note - I can see the firmino love doll and the kebab Walkon. But never the Liverpool kit mate.. ?

16 Nov 2022 18:38:03
I understand all the bad with the World Cup happening bribery, deaths etc, but you really don’t think there wasn’t any sort of bribery at previous World Cups? Or deaths with stadiums being built? You really think healthy and safety was being stuck to at Russia 18, or Brazil 14, or South Africa 10. it all stinks

Everyone pointing the finger when it’s probs happened everywhere, I’m by know means thinking what Qatar have done is right honestly think it’s terrible.

16 Nov 2022 21:33:00
Olired, for as far as I can remember, there has always been some controversy during every World Cup. But it was always much smaller things like such and such player choosing not to go and play and such, while there were hushed whispers about corruption and money exchanging hands. But FIFA took a sharp turn when they gave the games to first Russia and then Qatar. It was clear declarartion that "we don't care who the host is as long as the bid is the highest". Coincidentally, a certain Mr. Blatter and his acolyte Mr. Platini were at the helm of things at the time (if memory serves accurately) . Both are disgraced, and rightly so.

{Ed025's Note - what a pair of scum bags them 2 are ArAy, how can anyone have faith in FIFA when you have crooks like them at the helm?..
