Hi guys, tsimikas did very well and redeemed himself, but for me matip was man of the match, he gets a lot of stick but for me is much better than konate who always has a mistake in him and is always getting silly yellow cards. Matip closing down and on the ball ability is world class and we would be fools to let him leave for free. Our excellent form started the season with matip when konate came in we blipped. Get him a year extension now.

Ideally a player similar in skill level to Matip a good few years younger and a good record of not getting injured would be my choice.

Matip for me is one of the next to be replaced.

Vvd was Motm for me yesterday. He really does look back to his best.

OP, I thought Matip was immense yesterday event tho, VVD absolutely killed it. Tsimikas improved a lot and you could see his confidence grow as the game went on. Shout out to Jota as well who was very good as well overall.

When you have 7/ 8 out of 10 performances from majority of the boys on the pitch, you are more than likely to win. Let's keep working hard and improving, players, coaches and fans alike.

Amazing stuff. I've read repeatedly on here in the last 18 months how Matip and Van Dijk are done and dusted and need to be gotten rid of, yet here they still are putting in classy performances.
Who'd have thought it, eh?

Flash for me, I still maintain that Matip needed and still needs to be moved on and that's just my opinion. However, that does not remove from the fact that he was brilliant yesterday. Multiple things can be correct at the same time. It's not always black and white.

As for VVD, I always said that he needed to keep his head and stop getting triggered when journalists and pundits trigger him. He needed to just keep his head down, talk less and work hard by using the criticism as fuel for his fire and he has done that.

Also, I think being capt. has helped him be more aggressive and has improved him as a leader cos I thought he was not capt. material. He is now proving me wrong. Long may that and the other things he has been doing so far, continue.

Matip is on the wrong side of his career curve, so I would look at replacing him. He was far, far better at the beginning of his career with us than he is now, and for obvious reasons. He's far older and I'm sure the years of the variety of injuries have taken their toll on him. A good game out of every five played isn't what we should be looking for; even from our 3rd or 4th CB.

Nunez was MOTM for me. Captain Chaos caused havoc in those first 30 minutes of the game. Good game for Jota and Salah too. Now if only we had the same riches we have in attack, in our back four. We're missing a player or two.

What’s telling for me this year is that Matip has also looked decent alongside Quansah. For the last couple years he has been awful without Virgil alongside him but seems to have stepped it up a bit this year after an awful year last season.
