I’m sure there will be people who contribute to this site who will undoubtedly provide a plausible sounding excuse, but Everton one offence - 10 points deducted. Chelsea multiple offences over years - £8m fine (a figure Abramovicn cope with out of his spare change) - no points deduction. City multiple offences over years - the carpet has been cleaned and one end is slowly being lifted up - we shall see.
At the risk of embarrassing myself are there any guidelines out there that quantity grades of illegal behaviour and indicative punishments?

WDW3, that's the thing even in criminal convictions. The question always is, "Did the punishment fit the crime/ violation"? Sadly, it is always a subjective answer cos you can get opinions that say ye and others that say no and the arguments on both side can be more than valid so in the end, you can't really know.
Now I will say this. We all know Everton actually co-operated with the probe cos this has been going on for 3 years now so IMO, they prolly got off with "just" a 10 point deduction and the timing of the punishment is also interesting.
Had the verdict dropped last season, I don't think Everton stay up and we know people wanted this sorted last season now clubs like Leeds, Leicester and so on are now up in arms seeking legal redress. Now with the verdict dropping this early and in a season where there are 4/ 5 teams worse than them, I think Everton came out alright in the end, IMO. Again, a coincidence? Nobody really knows.

Better Lawyers?

I think it comes down to we only care if it affects us.
If this was Everton and say Aston Villa with 115 charges we wouldn’t bat an eyelid as that has no relevance to us.
6 teams tried leaving the league to join a super league and if we weren’t one of them we would have been demanding point deductions for them teams.
When Shef Utd got done over by goal line technology no one cared in the big clubs or the fan bases but we are still irate that Everton didn’t get a pen and Var was to blame as it was vs city.
When our Spurs goal was disallowed the other big teams didn’t care but since then officiating and Var has affected them and now it’s the worst thing in the world. When decisions go against the other big teams we don’t care.
We were banned from signing young players a few seasons ago due to rule breaking but no one at the time said the fine was feeble and should have had points deducted.
Everton have been hit hard and City and Chelsea should be hit even harder now the precedence has been set. But if we ever end up in the dock for rule reading it would be interesting to see everyone’s thoughts then.

There were some people on here who were claiming, for a long time, that Chelsea were a model club in terms of how they were run. “Chelsea make a lot from sales”, “Chelsea look after their loanees”, “This has nothing to do with Chelsea”.
Anyone with half a brain functioning at 10% knew all the above was complete nonsense. Chelsea are, and have been for a long time, a dirty club operated on ill-gotten, shady finances. Judging by their recent reckless spending, I wouldn’t be surprised if Abramovich was still involved with the club and just operating it from hideout in Siberia.
City are all the above and worse.

Ed2, what you saying about Chelsea and City? I know you defended Chelsea and Roman but doesn't look good. And do you expect City to get punished?

Come on Ed. let's not be silly. You know for what my friend.
{Ed002's Note - No charges against Chelsea,}

It was an £8.5 donation from Chelsea at the start of the season, we all understand that.
However, it would appear - from the BBC who, as an aside, accurately reported Luis’s dad’s release - that yet more financial transactions, potentially involving multi million pound ‘payments’ to associates of Mr Abramovich, may not have been accurately reported and are potentially subject to initial investigation. I’m pretty sure we may see yet another donation to the widows and orphans fund at some point.

City?

Spot on JK. All football fans want to believe that we’re ‘holier than thou (them) ’ but in truth we’re all pretty much the same. Guess that’s why we all love the same sport so much.

Footyfan, LFC have gotten in trouble for tapping up players, having it's employees hack into Man City's scouting network anf have been punished for violating FFP rules as well. Suarez was also done for racial abuse and many of us are filled with disgust even tho, he was our player. Many of us are disgusted by all the above, btw.
So let me ask you this: Who the football are these people who think "we are holier than thou" that you are talking about? I'll wait.
