Hi Ed001,

After Shaqiris belter yesterday it got me thinking to his time with us. What did you make of his spell? I remember he started so brightly and was playing really well but it kind of faded and it didn't work out.

Always felt like he had lots of talent but maybe either didn't want it hard enough or got a bit lazy in games.

{Ed001's Note - he was always a squad filler, could come in and change a game from the bench but never seemed to perform if starting. He just doesn't have the desire needed to make the most of his talent at club level.}

A good player but one of those who really does turn it on for country, reminds me of Davor Suker.

As far as I know, he got a hair transplantation in his final season (or was it the one before? ) with us, which meant he was out "injured" for at least a two month period if memory serves me well. I can't imagine this helped him getting into the team. Good player, but never able to take that step up in a big team (bayern, liverpool, inter)

Suker scored a goal pretty much every other game at his peak with Seville and Real Madrid. I think you're doing him a disservice here - great player in his prime years.

Talented footballer with considerable skill and the physique for it, but it always seemed like he had other priorities in life. This I know from his play for Switzerland before he joined LFC. Not always going in sync with whichever team he was playing for.

He should have played a little bit more. That spell where we played Shaqiri Firmino Mane behind Salah we were fantastic.

I sincerely hope the ‘hair transplant’ comment is true - it made me laugh.

I always liked Shaqiri. He's got that X-Factor to light up a game that not many players possess, sort of like Origi or Litmanen, not the best all round players, but you could rely on him to come on and make something happen. We have some great players in the squad but not enough of that sort in my opinion, probably why everyone loves Nunez's 'chaos' factor. It's a bit different from the normal bore off play it safe rubbish that seems to be permeating every facet of the game at the moment. Take a risk, do something mad, when it doesn't work 9/ 10 everyone says your rubbish but when it works oh man it's great. It's that unpredictability that makes me love footy and I don't think there's enough of it around anymore.
Wow that got semi emotional, all from reminiscing about the little Swiss fella with superhero legs lol.

WDW, it's very much true. In fact, I am pretty sure that during a presser, Klopp mentioned something about Shaqiri not being available because he's not allowed to head the ball. And he did not consult the club before getting it done.

Shaqiri- The calves don't lie :)
He was Klopp's version of Luis Garcia. Capable of magic but didn't see it often enough.
