Is there any legitimate movement the Ed’s are aware of from us so far this transfer window? Who fits the bill do you think in terms of age, wages, ability and our need to fill that position. Just interested given the knowledge you have at your disposal who you think we should target out of anyone you know of interest.

{Ed002's Note - All of this has been covered in great detail.}

It's been covered in great detail, we are flip flopping into panic buys in the last week of August. Very reminiscent of David moyes one and only utd summer transfer window.

The problem we have is our squad is bloated and not everyone is back for slot to know who wants to leave who is staying and who is good enough etc . Then there is the issue of did we get the full potential of the squad last season players need to be trusted in there best positions e. g elliot, Jones, mcallister, szbozlai, gomez, trent etc there is a lot to take into consideration before buying.

Hailstones, whilst the players may be on holiday, I very much doubt their agents are sipping cocktails on the beach. I'm sure their agents look know exactly what the players wishes are and they will be available for negotiations and talks.
I just think the club is in a major transition with new employees in various senior roles who likely want to have their own input. We also have the remember, the old regime was there for a long time, so there is likely a lot of changes being made behind the scenes.

As long as we reduce that wage budget that’s all that matters.

Modern day football fans problems

1. Wage bill
2. Winning trophies
3. Playing entertaining football.

Stuie you are completely missing the point Hailstones is making.

How can we go gung ho signing players when the new manager hasn’t even met the whole squad? What if we went all out for Yoro at £60m and then when Slot looks at the team he’s 5th choice and he thinks we need a top class number 10? We’ve just wasted £60m on a player he doesn’t need and now have to compromise on the player he does need because we’ve got £60m less to spend.

Just be patient, Rome wasn’t built in a day even though it only took Mourinho 2 years to tear it down.

Beckers, part of hailstones comment was 'he won't know who wants leave. ' hence my comment. Also relates to the furore around players running down contracts. Clubs are likely in constant conversation with players agents regarding these things. On your other points, I agree, I'm sure slot wants to meet the squad and likely have one to ones with the key players such as VVD, Trent, Salah etc.

The season Kicks off in 4 weeks so they better stop this so called flip flopping. By now they should surely have identified a first choice cb and dm. No need to wait until the current players return to get those positions sorted.

@Finglas, how’s things in the last week in August? Where I am it’s only the 19th of July.

Personally I see no issue with Van Dijk or Salah not signing a new contract because of their age and salary. Neither would make any sense on long term contracts with higher wages and quite frankly we should be preparing for them leaving. If they go they go, their time is nearly up.

Trent is slightly different as he still has a high value because of his age. He should be given an ultimatum that he either signs or he is playing back up to Bradley if he doesn’t intend signing. No messing around thinking about it. There is nothing to think about, you either want to play for us in the long term or not. There is no half way position here. If he wants to go, then absolutely fine, but he must understand that Bradley would be first choice as he would be the future.

I don't see the problem with "flip flopping". What's wrong with getting the best possible player at the lowest possible price? Inacio was "untouchable" a few months ago, and now that there may be some possibility, it's become flip flopping?

ManCity, ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal change their minds all the time and it gets called "pivoting". Arsenal just pivoted out of Guehi. And when we do it, it's called flip flopping. The haters just love it.

I think DM and CB are pretty evident areas that need taking care of. I don't think you need the full squad or everyone settled to address those two areas.

But it seems the club has already been looking at players in those positions so maybe just a matter of time before we see something materialise.

We can go into the new season with the same squad. They’d have time before end of August to make moves if they wanted to.
But we have a massive squad and I’d be ok giving Slot and Hughes time to figure out what they have as they decide what they want and the timeframe to build that.

I’d hate to see a bunch of signings in August for of it. We’d be better off having our first team come together and learn fresh from Slot. At least the squad know each other and are familiar with the environment and league. Rather than some new names who’ll have to update to Slot, the squad, the city and likely the PL.
