Club can't win. If we keep youngsters and loan them out people complain about having players on the books that we don't need.

Sell them and they cry about losing players that have shown no reason to keep them.

Play them and everyone says they're not ready unless they can bang a goal or assist.

People need to realise that in the ffp landscape every major team will use youth players to fund the first team acquisitions as they're the biggest profit. It's not 2003 anymore and sugar daddies can't just pump endless transfer money in anymore.

Really really need to let go of the idea that we can just buy more and more players without selling. This isn't just our model or the "money ball" model, it's literally every club in the leagues model now.

Agree9 Disagree0

Does that include Chelsea.

Good post Nevada.

I don’t think anyone is actually crying on these pages and it’s all opinions.

It seems a select few are the ones who get offended the most if anyone dare have a separate opinion to theirs.

For me my only opinion on it is for the last few weeks it’s been said we don’t need to sign players our youngsters will get a chance to step up.

When it’s quite evident that was never the case. VDB is another he’s on the bench today behind Philips in the second game.

If we don’t sign anyone then nothing for me changes as a fan but I can still have the opinion that we will be a little short of quality to mount a title and CL challenge.

But saying that slot seems to have the team playing well so maybe no signings are needed.

In the grand scheme of things no opinion on here makes a single difference to what the club actually does.

What youngters did United sell to fund their €100 million plus outlay?

11 Aug 2024 19:07:13
The club can and have won in my eyes. In the past decade, at least, we have bought, sold, loaned and loaned out players, have done so responsibly and managed to win trophies, including the big two, and played some brilliant football. That has also been done with Man City with their finances and excellent manager creating a formidable opponent.
It may not be enough for some fans but the club has been successful, the team a pleasure to watch and I have no complaints.
If that makes me a superfan, I can take it and I'll finish my half full pint with a smug grin on my face.

Well said @rigsby it’s a business nowadays and most businesses that lose more than they earn don’t tend to do very well.

11 Aug 2024 23:31:28
@TIR, there’s a fire sale in the West End every 30th June. Buy two get one for free - people travel down from the Midlands and the North East ?.

11 Aug 2024 23:56:28
I mean, we've sold one youth player so far and there is talk of another couple we could allow to leave if there is a suitable offer.

I think what Nevada is getting at is the over-reaction to any kind of transfer news.

Selling carvalho, and potentially Doak and Clark isn't a sign that we're abandoning the academy. It's not a sign that we need to sell our youth in order to buy. It's just the club going about it's business,

12 Aug 2024 02:29:08
In response : Chelsea and United have massive commercial income and Chelsea also sell tons of youth players every year, you could argue nobody does the youth player factory model better than they do.

The truth is our income isn't at the same level as United or Chelsea two teams which placed a big focus on increasing commercial income, we've been improving a lot over the last ten years or so.

Life isn't FIFA or football manager and pointing to different teams and saying "what about dem! " Doesn't change our situation at all. Wish in one hand and rubbish in the other, see which one fills up first.

So you just make stuff up.

12 Aug 2024 07:18:22
Chelsea have spent circa €1.3 billion since the new owner has come in and you’re trying to spin it as if they get it back on youth player sales and commercial revenue? Call it favourable buying terms from the previous owner if you want but it’s certainly not what you suggest.

12 Aug 2024 07:24:09
I also think Liverpools commercial revenue was £80 million more than Chelsea in the 22/ 23 accounts so that ain’t true either. Maybe you should look at the losses Chelsea have posted in the previous 2 year.

12 Aug 2024 08:43:56
Genuine question: how is Chelsea's commercial income bigger than ours?

12 Aug 2024 09:56:27
People can feel free to correct me but didn't Liverpool make a £9m loss last year?

Admin costs went up by 17m
Match day and media revenue dropped by 7 and 19m

So if we are making a loss how do people propose we pay for transfers? Genuine question. Do you prefer
A: player sales
Or
B: bank loans.

Because if we are making a loss it means the money is not there, that's from official club accounts. feel free to check and correct me if I'm wrong.

12 Aug 2024 11:02:26
Chelsea and United made bigger losses. Stop digging.

12 Aug 2024 14:37:57
@Carlo23

How do united and Chelsea fund transfers?

With player sales (Chelsea)
Or
Loans (united)

You're making my point for me. Let me ask again, if we do not have money (according to official accounts we don't) then how would you like to fund acquisitions?

Player sales or loans?

12 Aug 2024 15:48:14
Chelsea don’t fund €1.3 billion of new players in 2 years with player sales. That is blatantly not true.

12 Aug 2024 16:50:13
@irish rover I didn't say they fund of it with player sales.

But to reiterate - if we don't have the money (we don't) how would you like to pay? Player sales or bank loans?

Even if we did have a sugar daddy owner they can't pump money in - see Newcastle, and city. They're both having to sell to buy to avoid falling foul of psr rules.

I'm honestly really curious where people are assuming the money will come from, so far nobody can answer it.

12 Aug 2024 17:47:37
I’ve no issue whatsoever how Liverpool do business but my point is you saying complete waffle about how Chelsea do their business., how they have more commercial turnover than Liverpool (not true), and how they fund their massive sales €1.3 billion. Go back and read your original post and ask yourself is this how Chelsea do their business and the answer is no. A team that has recorded £90 and £150 million losses in the last 2 seasons and no doubt their next accounts will be even worse, makes Liverpools £9 million loss look like small change in comparison . Chelsea sell a lot of players but it doesn’t scratch the surface at the minute on their purchases.
