Hello ed1 hope u well. On the eve of the season what's your hopes + predictions for lfc? I know your not 1 for predictions but to break up the monotony of transfer questions maybe u will give us your top 4?!
Disappointing window for us contract wise+ signing wise, new manager as well I feel it's key we Start well, play well and get few wins on board early doors.
{Ed001's Note - this season is just a free hit imo. With all the changes behind the scenes, as well as bringing in Slot, we just have to ensure we don't fall away the way Man Utd when they did the same at the end of the Ferguson era. I have to say, I have as much faith in Edwards, Ward and Hughes as United fans had in Woodward. I just hope Slot is good enough to keep us competitive at the top despite them. We should be looking to challenge for the title.}

I agree with you on this, Ed001. While we all hoped for a few signings to boost our strength and depth to compete on all fronts, I cannot comment on the challenges Edwards and Hughes might be facing, as I am not familiar with their situation.
I felt a bit down throughout pre-season (accentuated probably by lack of signings), like it was a cooling-off period for me too, especially after the incredible 8 years of watching us fight under Klopp, particularly the season we nearly achieved the Quadruple.
Although Slot has a different demeanor compared to Klopp, I am starting to warm up to him. He has handled himself very well in the short time he has been here, despite not having a full pre-season due to the Euros and other factors. So, hope he keeps us competitive this year! We should challenge for the title.

I think it’s been a terrible window. Im just glad the season is starting now and we can forget about it. Klopp leaving affected us bad. Most of the players will be looking for exit routes in summer because of the lack of ambition. So obviously my predictions for the new seasons are pretty clear.
Slot will perform a miracle and we will have the league wrapped up February, champions league will be won at a canter and everything I said before is nonsense because Liverpool will be absolutely fantastic.
Football is Back! Up the Slot era, up the RedMen!

I really like what I have seen and heard from Slot so far. The point about trading some of the Klopp chaos for control is critical. The question is whether Slot can get the balance right. Also, we will have to see what he is like when the pressure is on or we go through a bad patch. Will he tinker or stick to his principles?

"Most of the players will be looking for exit routes in summer because of the lack of ambition".
Comedy gold.
I doubt any of the players will get the titty lip on that the fans do because the club won't buy a new toy.

One good thing abt this transfer season is Ed's got much needed break on the site. Long due.
Even last time the traffic was much higher with Kephler thurham and Kone before they got injured I guess.
Ed's would love to see every club go through this type transfer season once in a while. esp Chelsea with 20 odd signings every window.
16 Aug 2024 13:30:07
You don’t understand players then FTR this exact thing has happened to our club far too often over the years.
16 Aug 2024 13:36:09
Didn’t read it all did you Champ.

Ed1, "I have as much faith in Edwards, Ward and Hughes as United fans had in Woodward" doesn't sound good. I do wonder what is these peoples are doing in the background. They got 3 months to solve the contract situations, bring in possible replacements/ strengthening the squad. Now we have less than two weeks left in transfer window yet nothing has been done.
{Ed001's Note - at least Slot seems like the right choice, but it is lucky he has no hair to tear out!}
16 Aug 2024 13:13:36
I must say ed1 i've been quite impressed with slot so far, speaks sense and doesn't seem to want to rip up everything the previous manager had done as he aware a lot was right about it. i think some new managers at clubs feel they need to change everything and it's got to do with there own insecurity more than anything. Slot has been quite open in saying that klopp left v good players and v good traits in squuad to continue working on.
Obviously its only pre season and when the real action starts tomorrow is when we start to see what slot like.
{Ed001's Note - he does, on the small amount of evidence available so far, seem like he is a very good choice.}
16 Aug 2024 14:07:22
for me, whether we signed players or not, top 4 was going to be the minimum for Sot in his first season. as he's said, he has a very good squad at his disposal. he can implement his tactics over the course of the season, and use the next 2-3 windows to establish his true team.
16 Aug 2024 14:45:34
Ed1, I wonder how will he looks like when he left Liv hopefully years from now. You see how much Klopp change from when he came to us and when he leaves. Luckily, he's bald so i guess that will stay the same.
{Ed001's Note - so long as he wins lots of trophies, that is what matters. I don't want him going away from the club like Rodgers - younger, slimmer, tanned and a new bird on his arm but with little to show for his time.}
16 Aug 2024 15:56:37
Only thing Rogers won was a trophy wife.
16 Aug 2024 16:41:46
As is customary for new LFC managers, I will be very disappointed if Slot doesn't have a brand new set of pearly whites by seasons end.
16 Aug 2024 17:53:17
Really impressed with Slot, disappointed with the help he's been given. The club need to do more for him, everyone on this site deep down knows he has not been helped this summer and its not good enough.
16 Aug 2024 18:27:48
It’s a clown show what’s gone on behind the scenes with all concerned looking out of their depth, especially Hughes.
16 Aug 2024 19:29:59
Can I ask Eds what is your opinion of Edwards, Ward and Hughes, I read above your not a fan and I remember you weren’t impressed when the announcement was made that they were returning but why is that?
Personally I think they were p. poor and dined out on Klopps success and for every decent signing there has been a dodgy recruitment to balance it out aka Kabak, Melo, Keita, Davies.
{Ed001's Note - Edwards and Ward left us completely shafted with the contracts they handed out, which required the Saudi league to rescue us. If that hadn't been trying to make a splash then, we would have still had Fabinho and Henderson in the centre of midfield last time out. We got lucky. They are just not the right men for the roles - excellent in their field, but they have been promoted way past their level of competence.
Hughes is just not good at identifying players. If you go and look at the players he brought in to Bournemouth, how many were hidden gems? I don't think any were. On top of that, he actively recruited players utterly unsuited to the team's needs or the Prem.}
16 Aug 2024 21:17:06
What a strange world we live in that now we are in a position that we face the prospect of loosing Trent, Virg and Salah on frees all in the same year!
Can I ask who is responsible for team planning and transfer budgets etc, FSG are always blasted by the fans for not spending but am I right in saying that they have little or nothing to do with that? I have a horrible feeling that we will live to regret not investing in the team when we were at the top of the pile. After winning the league we should have been building on our success but instead we ended up with bargain purchases.
16 Aug 2024 21:35:59
Ed01, so how the football did Hughes get the job then, seriously? Based on what you’re saying, this is Edwards promoted to DOF all over again despite not having the chops to do the job. Who at HR us doing the due diligence on these candidates?
{Ed001's Note - he is Edwards' friend. That seems, to be the reason.}
17 Aug 2024 01:14:02
What if VVD, Salah and TAA are considering new contracts elsewhere?
What if the club is looking to rebuild the side without VVD, Salah and TAA?
Two of them are in their thirties and have already had the best years of their careers with us. TAA might do a McManaman and there's little we can do about that.
All three have served the club well and if they want to go or are surplus to requirements then we should wish them well.
We don't know what they or the club wants so it's pointless to say what the club should be doing.
Folk on here have been slating the club for pursuing Zubimendi, a player with a release clause that we were prepared to meet and he even agreed to join us.
It's not easy dealing with humans.
{Ed001's Note - if they are considering contracts elsewhere, then why waste time pursuing Zubimendi, rather than replacing three key players?}
17 Aug 2024 10:03:26
They might not need replacing yet, none of them are midfielders, Zubimendi is and maybe seen as an opportunistic signing.
Considering playing elsewhere next season doesn't mean they will. There have been big changes at the club and they might have concerns about the future. The club might have concerns about about their futures there.
It's all speculation because we don't know what is going on. It's not good having this uncertainty with three of our best players but we don't know the reasons for the uncertainty so it's difficult to know who is to blame, if anyone.
