Couple of questions for ed001. What area would you strengthen as priority and what do you make of this nonsense about Gordon. Surely not we need at all Hope your well
Up the pool.
{Ed001's Note - left centre-back and right wing are the priorities for me.}

Ed001, I thought the same but all I hear is we need a play disrupting no.6…. I actually think that midfield is ok as it is ed001.
{Ed001's Note - me too.}

I think we need to get trent an extension before anything ?.

Ed1, do you expect anything to happen? I keep hearing we are only going after "quality players" because we have a strong squad. But you can't expect clubs to allow their "quality players" to leave this late in the window. With each days passing by, I'm feeling less optimistic that our squad will be strengthened.
{Ed001's Note - yes, the club is trying to make signings, though I am not convinced of the need for a midfielder, they seem desperate to bring one in.}

We don’t need a 6… K.
18 Aug 2024 17:41:52
Of course we need a 6.
18 Aug 2024 18:24:45
Hst - no we don’t.
18 Aug 2024 19:03:59
Yes we do.
18 Aug 2024 21:57:37
Say we did need a 6, just for argument’s sake. Can you explain clearly, based on factual evidence why we need one?
18 Aug 2024 22:28:43
Because we won’t win the league without a top class number 6, you might think the club are stupid but even they recognise the need for a top class player who can run the game.

There were times last season where the lack of pace from Endo and Mac was exposed when teams played through our initial press. Also we did get a bit bullied for want of a better phrase in certain games. So if w could sign a player with more pace and physicality it could help. But I agree it’s not necessarily a priority.
18 Aug 2024 23:09:59
Nah we don't need a 6, especially given that Slot doesn't play a DM. Honestly how many time does this need to be gone over, he doesn't play a typical 6! Just like Klopp didn't play a traditional 10 so we don't need one! LB, CB, Right Wing and contracts for me.
19 Aug 2024 03:55:22
@Mark, it’s not the club I think is stupid.
‘We need a number. 6 because w3 need one’ wasn’t exactly the response that I was looking for?
19 Aug 2024 09:08:58
Exactly, Westwood. I wanted a 6 too even if to play with Macca in the pivot but Slot does use one. So if the manager does not need nor use a 6 then, why should he get one?
Also, does going after Zubi (who is not a 6, let alone a disruptive one) not demonstrate clearly that a 6 is not needed for Slot’s system or are we now going to ignore that as it does not suit the agenda? Pls, people should let the manager do his job with the types of players he wants, not the type of players anyone else including me, wants. I’m over it, personally.

What exactly is a number 6?
A few players who have worn 6 in their time Xavi, Thiago silva, Bobby Moore, Roberto Carlos, Thiago, Iniesta, Baresi, Sammer and Koke.
Hardly similar players despite all wearing the same number.

Just to point out that Mac was only "exposed" last season because he was the lone player defending across the middle third of the pitch. No matter who you are you will get exposed being asked to do to much.
Had the midfield defended as a unit (like milner, hendo and fab did) nobody would be exposed, it was a tactical issue. Not a talent one.

JK - unless I am mistaken which I regularly am, it's just a term for how numbers used to dictate positions. Numbers didn't used to be assigned to players and names didn't used to be on the backs of shirts. The first 12 was just that. 1-5 was your GK and defence, 9 and 10 your forwards, 7 and 11 your wingers and 6 and 8 your centre kids. Oliver time those numbers have taken on more specific meanings - 9 your old school battering ram or traditional striker, 10 your more creative forward, hence the connection with the AM or second striker role, 8 the box to box midfield 6 being more closely linked with the holding, deep lying or defensive midfielder. Sometimes though that role is given the number 4 and the 6 is given to the other CB. Gerrard wore 4 for England in that role for example. It's all very traditional though, doesn't actually mean anything and is just a term.

Westwood in fact growing up playing footie, the DM was the no. 4 while the no. 6 was the sweeper. Just to support your point, btw.

Going back further and the team I disliked more than any other in English football - Billy Brenner played 4 and Johnny Giles played 10. Notionally one was defence minded and the other attacking (at least in the context of the current discussion) . The fact was they were both extremely hard little bar-stewards who would play football if you wanted but would happily try to kick the rap out of you if you wanted to mix it up. Point is they played the game that was in front of them and didn’t necessarily focus on the number on the back of their shirts.
