All this chat about MZ being a flake and not wanting to join Liverpool and calling him a flake fgs.
Take the blinkers off, remember Stevie G, multiple opportunities to leave but ended up for whatever reason to remain at Liverpool when he could've easily have left and won leagues and other silverware at the time.
Respect MZ for his decision ?.
19 Aug 2024 20:43:58
Exactly he didn’t want or couldn’t leave his club for whatever reason and people have a go, just someone else to have a go at.
19 Aug 2024 21:02:55
I don’t have a problem with Zubimendi not wanting to join us I have a problem with our recruitment team putting all their faith in a single player who’d rejected other big clubs for wanting to stay close to home.
19 Aug 2024 21:19:45
He agreed to join us, didn't he, Kippers? You can't really have a problem with the recruitment team for Zubimendi changing his mind.
19 Aug 2024 21:27:37
When Chelsea came calling for Gerrard he had already won 6 major trophies with Liverpool and was playing for the European Champions. Zubimendi is playing for the Spanish version of West Ham with a nicer view. Please don't compare the two.
19 Aug 2024 21:38:08
I wouldn't be surprised if Zubimendi leaves Sociedad in the future.
19 Aug 2024 22:06:51
I've missed the disparaging comments towards Zubimedi. has that been on here?
19 Aug 2024 22:06:55
He'll be at Barcelona soon.
19 Aug 2024 22:18:49
He’s a flake. End of. Weak mentality and clearly not the kind of character suited to join us. Better to find that out now than him join us and get homesick part way through the season and start agitating to go back to Spain. I’ve got no respect for him and there’s no reason why I should.
19 Aug 2024 22:28:57
Agreed VV.
19 Aug 2024 22:47:53
Is he a Flake or a Crunchie? Looks like a bit of a Walnut Whip to me.
19 Aug 2024 23:02:24
Yeh, proper weak mentality. Just crumbles at first sign of pressure. Weak weak person. Not the kind of guy you want to bring on to replace your star holding DM in the second half of a european cup final game, especially when your team has conceded an equaliser too. don't need weak mentality players like this anywhere near the pitch or team.
God help us.
20 Aug 2024 00:13:09
It looks like he has caused more than a Ripple and has started to Ruffle a few feathers among Liverpool fans. He'd have given us a Boost though if the Wispas about his ability are true. If he had gotten homesick, I'm sure the Club would have let him have some Time Out.
20 Aug 2024 01:59:49
@TB2, normally totally agree with what you say and the thought processes behind what you say, but I disagree on 5his one. Zubimendi and Gerrard both came to the same decision, that for whatever reasons - and granted they may have individually had some different reasons - they wanted to stay where they were.
20 Aug 2024 06:39:35
I have to agree with WDW. Gerrard had the chance to join a team that would challenge regularly for all the top trophies compared to us at that time where it wasn't uncommon for us to finish a season trophy less. We weren't a very competitive team back then and finishing fourth with a cup is seen as a successful season. Gerrard agreed to join Chelsea but ultimately rejected them, similar to Zubimendi. And if Zubimendi is a flake, then that label should apply to Gerrard as well.
20 Aug 2024 06:44:01
I think zubi may have just used us to get a better contract at socidad.
20 Aug 2024 07:11:55
Jilted lover syndrome.
Last week some of the same posters were desperate for the guy to sign.
Genuinely funny stuff.
20 Aug 2024 07:36:04
How dare someone turns us down, how dare someone not want to play for us .
It’s so easy and common on here now to slag one of our players and even now players who don’t sign.
20 Aug 2024 07:48:01
Did Gerrard also agree to move and then change his mind at the last minute? If he did then he’s a flake too. Why are people acting like “flake” is such a horrendously derogatory term. It just means you don’t stick to your word which is exactly what Zubimendi has done. It’s not that deep or personal. Gerrard possibly being a flake too, doesn’t make Zubimendi less of a flake. Also, the snowflakes (pun intended) getting offended on Zubimendi’s behalf, need to climb down off their high horses because at least half of you have said far worse about current and past Liverpool players on this public site alone, never mind what you’ve said immediately after a defeat in your group chats or down the pub ?.
20 Aug 2024 08:24:33
@MKS, imho, your and @Victor’s definition of flake is wide of the mark within the context of people’s earning potential within the current football financial climate.
20 Aug 2024 08:32:10
Hundreds of players have agreed to join clubs over a period it’s not done until it’s done. I read he was still unsure despite saying yes. I’d argue the indecision from the player was problematic but sure our recruitment team can conduct some basic research.
20 Aug 2024 08:39:33
Fatwallet, the beauty of the internet is pretty much everything you say is permanent. Like the things you’ve said about our players in the last 3 weeks alone.
1. You’ve said Doak is all speed and no end product, even likening him to Adama Traore. The difference of course being that Doak is a child still.
2. You said Diaz is just like Suarez and Coutinho for wanting to go to Barcelona. The difference of course being that Diaz is still on the pitch giving 100% whilst Coutinho faked a back injury and Suarez bit somebody and took the club to court to get a move.
3. You even said you think Quansah will really struggle this season off the back of 45 minutes in a really high intensity physical game. That was probably what, his 15th Premier League start?
Now none of this is really that bad (harsh on all 3 counts), but it is essentially the same as anybody calling Zubimendi a flake (which maybe you think is harsh) . And ironic given you just complained about people slagging off our players. Just stop acting like you are above it. Also sorry to single you out because everyone on this thread has skeletons in the search function! I just can’t be bothered to make you all look silly.
Just don’t throw stones from inside your glass house. That applies to everyone playing the holier than thou card on this thread. Most of you have been slagging off Richard Hughes for days. Seriously, grow up. My missus takes banter better than you lot and she’s a right liberal softy.
20 Aug 2024 09:02:06
I wonder whether he's had a nod from Barcelona or Real Madrid about a future move and decided to change his mind.
I don't mind either way and could understand that decision and have no real view of him as a footballer or a person.
20 Aug 2024 09:07:33
WDW, the definition of a flake in modern slang is “somebody who commits to plans and then either cancels last minute or doesn’t show up”. Pretty much describes what Zubimendi just did ‘imho’. This whole thread is such a weird over reaction and one of the best cases of hypocrisy in banter page history.
20 Aug 2024 09:49:53
Modern slang eh? Really? You must be correct then.
20 Aug 2024 10:25:29
I actually know I am correct, WDW. Because I know exactly how my generation uses the terminology and the context it’s used in. In fact I couldn’t even tell you an alternative meaning other than pastry breaking apart.
20 Aug 2024 10:32:05
Time to move on from Zubimendi.
20 Aug 2024 10:46:04
WDW that has always been the definition of a flake in the South. Modern slang or not. Going out in the City and making plans one discovers just how many people are flakey. As well as discovering how many people will go to the opening of an envelope, if there is a free drink in it.
Everyone needs to stop being so precious about words and phraseology. It is nobody’s right to go through life without being offended. It is something we all have to deal with. And if anyone on here is ever offended by anything I say, I apologise.
20 Aug 2024 12:24:42
Like I say thanks @MKS and please accept my apologies as I hadn’t realised that you spoke for a generation. I guess I must just not be listening when my children and grandchildren speak. At least I know where the source of truth now resides.
20 Aug 2024 12:39:20
Nailed it St Etienne. I’ve asked about 5 people this morning without any context what a being a flake means and they’ve all said the same. Words to the effect of “Dropping out of plans you’ve agreed to”. It doesn’t matter what your reasons are. They could be the most legitimate excuses ever, you’re still getting called a flake down South! Maybe Northerners aren’t as tough as they think ?.
20 Aug 2024 13:48:43
I have no problem with him not wanting to join us, that’s up to him.
I do have a problem with anyone who blames it on their family.
Be a man, take it on the chin. Don’t blame your wife and kids, that’s pathetic and spineless.
{Ed001's Note - that is a ridiculous comment Ron. Nothing pathetic or spineless about listening to your family. Especially in Spanish culture, which is very much more family orientated, unlike the selfish self-centred English culture you are championing right now. If he makes the move and his family are unhappy, then he is going to struggle anyway, as he won't be happy either. It is a sensible thing to do to listen to your family. This be a man stuff is why men are so much more likely to commit suicide, because they are not allowed to open up and be honest, because of insensitive people like you telling them to 'be a man'.}
20 Aug 2024 15:48:58
In fairness, did he not say he was very interested in Liverpool but his wife and young family would rather stay in Spain? Can't blame the fella for that and tbf, everything reported in the media and more so on social media has just been clickbait rubbish - I never saw an interview directly reported with the player saying anything like what has been attributed to coming from him.
Time to forget and move on.
20 Aug 2024 15:51:43
You misunderstand me Ed.
Of course listen to your family. That’s a given.
What I mean is, don’t tell the media “I wanted to come but my family didn’t want to leave”.
Tell the media “the deal and the timing of the move didn’t work for me”.
By “be a man” I mean take the blame yourself, take the responsibility for your family.
I don’t mean, ignore your family’s point of view, of course not.
I mean, as far as the rest of the world needs to know, it’s your decision - end of story.
Protect your family, leave them out of it, this is business.
21 Aug 2024 00:14:14
What blame? Why is anyone to blame?
And if it's Zubimendi's decision, 'end of story', why are we still talking about his decision?
