Some woefully inept assumptions rife on this site at the minute
1. Buying is improving. I repeatedly see people saying rivals are improving, no they're not. They're buying. If those signings do well they might be improving. They can even do well and the time doesn't improve at all.
2. Not buying is standing still or going backwards - no it really isn't. There are plenty of teams (including us) who didn't buy or bought very little and went on to actually do better than the previous year.
3. A lot of people assume we need player x without really considering how well that player or skillset will fit in. For example it's been suggested multiple times that a destroyer will be a good signing and rabiot would be a bad one when in fact the opposite is true. Rabiot would fit in slots system far better than any destroyer - that's not to say I rate rabiot (he's alright) but his skill set is something the midfield uses, a masherano type destroyer absolutely doesn't fit at all unless they can also retain and recycle the ball, I genuinely can't name one of those who is available
Finally that this team is maxed out at third place last year, probably the most ludicrous of all assumptions for one a lot of the players in that team have ALREADY finished higher than that in the past. For two the rest of them are young and developing so saying third place is their limit is extremely pessimistic so early in their career.

I stopped reading at “ They can even do well and the time doesn't improve at all”. Now that is a woefully inept statement.

Looking forward to your post season review Nevada. I make you wrong on all points.
23 Aug 2024 16:39:37
Your condescending attitude is enough for me. When you have respect for other posters I might read your other posts.
23 Aug 2024 16:14:09
Frode, I give you the example of Cristiano Ronaldo, joined Manchester Untied for the second time, scored a load of goals and the team got worse.
23 Aug 2024 16:18:45
There's nothing wrong with what Nevada typed and his statement about buying and not necessarily improving is correct. Chelsea have bought loads of new players as usual and I think they have regressed. Arsenal too bought another CB when they arguably need a CF/ ST more than anything. So it remains to be seen if they have improved or not.

It's slot and his staff who need to worry about making the team better.
As a fan, I'll just keep watching the games and hope we keep winning.
I know it's hard for people to understand but we do actually have players that can improve.
The only players that have already peaked are probably VVD and Salah.

131 of the 132 teams in the top 7 leagues have signed someone this year. They can’t all be wrong and Liverpool are the only taking the right approach. We’ve had a disaster this window we don’t need to pretend otherwise it’s not like it’s any of the supporters’ fault.
23 Aug 2024 16:46:00
They can’t be this incompetent OneKiss. Somehow I still believe/ hope a couple of contracts will be signed and a couple of new signings will come in.
23 Aug 2024 16:50:21
Nothing wrong with your opinion Nevada, just don’t start calling anyone with other opinions, sound like a person who believes his opinion is always right….100% guarantee your not.
23 Aug 2024 17:03:44
Magico ?.
23 Aug 2024 17:21:55
Think you’re completely wrong Nevada. Investing in the team is to improve it. Hughes should have his arse handed to him.
23 Aug 2024 17:24:45
The worst post is always the guy turning up to a Transfer Rumours site. And moaning about people discussing transfers ?.

IT's like this forum has somehow turned "improving the squad" into "i want a shiny new toy". And stating "shiny new toy" seems to make you instantly correct. It's laughable.
Teams have to improve every year, surprisingly its a hard league to win. A new manager normally has funds to invest in players that will suit their system (rightly or wrongly), and we should have as well.
People acting like the same squad from last year that plummeted hard in performance after february is somehow the best squad in the world, and 1 or 2 players couldn't improve it is just insanity. Noone's sitting here calling for mbappe etc, the squad should improve every season as we were off the pace of City and Arsenal. Maybe we are happy with top 4, but not getting in some players now, even if its just for a potentially good replacement for some of our veterans that are currently going to be walking out next season seems like a good decision.
and point 2 of hte intial post is just awful, we have been signing players, every year, some rubbish some good. But we won the league after spending big and on some world class players, VD and Alison, and it took a year to bed in, but acting like we won the league after never having any investment is just duplicitous.

I see you Nevada.
1 - I kinda agree with you there. Have Citeh really improved with what they have bought so far. I wouldn't say they have. Arsenal probably have. Newcastle, no. Villa, yes. Chelski, no and begrudgingly UTD, yes. Mixed bag really. That and the fact we have a squad that can defintley improve on last season.
2 - See above.
3 - I agree with you here. Player recruitment should be based on what you need, not what you don't. There is reason Gravenberch is playing in the 6 rather than Endo and probably why we ain't in for Ugarte.
23 Aug 2024 20:56:53
It sounds like a lot of posters on here believe only our squad will improve this season. No one thinks the others will also improve too?
23 Aug 2024 21:31:06
Mcgoveb. Those below us, I do. Maybe not enough to overtake us tho. Those above us, I expect Arsenal will and Citeh will be Citeh.
23 Aug 2024 22:12:29
we will win! hehe.
23 Aug 2024 23:09:47
@OneKiss, love the general idea that if everybody does something I should do it too. Safest that way I guess eh?

I'm open to a debate, can someone who disagrees tell me an available player who fits slots system that they would like us to sign?
There was a typo in the first paragraph because I'm nearly always typing from my phone, apologies for that. I didn't notice at the time I wrote it.
Of course I can be wrong but how many of those of you saying we are going backwards now and we'll never win anything said the same thing when klopp bought just minamino and SVDB and then went on to win the league.
We spent £64 on a striker, it didn't bring us the league. Last season we spent a bunch on a new midfield and we didn't win the league either.
The reason I disagree with always buying playing is because it means you're not giving players time to settle and if you don't win then next year you're buying again and pretty soon your stuck with a bunch of players who you don't want, being paid too much who you struggle to sell.
I'm not sure where the complaint about me disrespecting people came from I didn't name anyone or insult anyone I simply picked holes in their thinking - that's exactly what a rumours/ banter is for.
I get people want instant success but it's probably not going to happen and being more realistic is better. Even if we signed every player that is on your dream list we probably still won't win the league this year because they need time to bed in, get used to life and acclimatise to the tactics. Those things take time.
24 Aug 2024 00:06:44
@deanW I'm not denying teams have to improve where we differ is I believe there are many ways to improve a team and some posters here believe there's only one - buying players.
It seems a lot of people have zero faith in slots ability to improve players. I'm willing to give him time to see what he can do before concluding that we need players because what we have got can't be improved.
24 Aug 2024 01:38:43
In fairness to Nevada, I am fascinated to see how the current team fares with Slot training the players rather than Ljinders. Regardless of whether we get new players in or not, im hoping to see how Slot’s tactics (along with hopefully playing players in their best positions) affect our performances. Signs in pre-season and the second half vs Ipswich have been positive.
24 Aug 2024 09:30:10
Frode, you said you stopped reading the post after a certain sentence. I propose you read the whole post cos you just did yourself a grave disservice by ignoring the context of his comment overall while at the same time, you attacked Nevada without from a position of ignorance. Shame, really cos it is a great debate.
24 Aug 2024 09:31:36
IDreamOfGin at least on the face of it, if Slot can get these guys playing his system effectively, that's one way of improving the team even w/ o signings. You're spot on at least on this front.
