Disappointing to hear the club agree a deal with ladbrooks as their betting partner for the coming years.

I think we might be the minority here aoe however I appreciate you having a voice for all those affected by problem gambling Dreadful partnership for the club and community.
I completely understand others enjoyment of gambling and this is just my opinion.

I don't gamble I've seen it bring a good friend to the brink. I don't agree with it but it is what is within the premier league.

I had a gambling problem 25 years ago and lost 6 figures in 6 months, however betting is a part of society and I have no issue with the club having Ladbrokes as a sponsor!

I think not signing deals with these businesses would most certainly help lessen its normality. I’m lucky to have never had an issue with gambling and I would never judge anyone for any of their choices. I just think there are quite a few evils surrounding gambling as a whole and a club like ours could do better than take money from a company that destroys so much.

Only to be expected I'm afraid. Football clubs have moved from tobacco, to alcohol now to gambling in taking money from industries that exploit and damage their fans.

As a sports psychologist I have to deal with gambling addiction very commonly among players.
This is disappointing news to me.

Sorry to hear that SzSz8
Thanks for sharing mate.
All the best.

It's a mug's game and severely damages communities and individuals.
I'd naively hoped the club was better than this.

Yep all about the chedda. Watch FIFA Uncovered to see what money has done to football.

There are ethical concerns with pretty much every multi-billion dollar industry/ company. You don’t get that rich and powerful without stepping on a lot of people. I would hazard a guess the bank we’re sponsored by aren’t squeaky clean either given 90% of their profits are made in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Best not to think about this stuff in my opinion because you’ll only find sad realities. You certainly won’t change the culture of betting in sports. Where there’s huge money involved, there’s simply never any sound or consistent morals. By all means be disappointed as that’s entirely your own prerogative, but Liverpool and every other club at the top level will all have partners to gain a competitive edge, where there are questionable ethics involved.

FSG are professional capitalists and their morals are aligned with who will pay them the most money.
24 Aug 2024 07:43:12
I don't gamble nor no interest in it but I think I don't think 'hiding it' as regards sponsorship etc is going to lessen the awful affliction it is for people who suffer with that addiction.
I would prefer method of educating young people the problems it can create for them by doing it, small doses of it no problem, big doses of it big problems. If you look at drugs problem, hiding it and making it illegal has only made it worse.

Gambling of any type and like any other form of addiction, has ruined people's lives. Whole families and freindships destroyed. I salute all those out there trying to help others and those who are actually trying to "get clean", if you like. Stay strong.

Gambling is a terrible thing, Again MK supporting the club blindly like nothing wrong can ever be done by FSG and the people THEY HIRE to run the club the way THEY WANT. Gambling has ruined so many lives and yet the commercials and propaganda is in your face everywhere, these people are horrible and beyond evil, and don't care about anything other than lining their pockets even if means ruining people's lives. I Know that some people have literally committed suicide due to sports gambling. But let's gain that competitive edge MK talks about by signing no one or signing Rabiot. WEEEEEEEEEE.
24 Aug 2024 11:26:37
For some reason my post never came through but in short, a gambling sponsor is no different to the club having an alcohol company in their shirt for years and as MK said, the banks aren't really any better. I personally don't agree with it, but gambling provides huge sums of money to the sport and clubs, I very much doubt they'll get rid of them.

I like the occasional flutter here and there, only small money. I don't see the harm in it if you can control yourself, just like drink, drugs, food, women. Unfortunately my control when it comes to women is terrible.
24 Aug 2024 20:22:29
You only have to turn on Sky Sports to be bombarded with betting advertising. If it's not adverts, then it's on club shirts.
This exploitative industry makes a living by preying on the vulnerable/ addictive members of society. Lots of clubs are sponsored by gambling companies, but I hoped we were "bigger" than this. I know we'd previously been sponsored by Bet Victor, but you'd like to think we were socially responsible enough to buck the trend. I guess they just can't say no to money sadly.

I completely get everybody’s comments above, and agree with them but, playing devils advocate, my only question would be where do you draw the line?
We are also sponsored by Carlsberg (and have been for eons) - alcohol is just as damaging, if not more so.
We are sponsored by EA Sports - many of their games including FIFA (now EA FC) have for years, particularly in regard to Ultimate Team, have been criticised for the addictive nature of opening “packs” - especially for children.
We are sponsored by Cadburys - obesity is a massive problem in this country.
We are sponsored by Coca Cola - same as the above.
Should we also dissociate ourselves from all those companies, and any others like them, as they also promote potentially unhealthy living or damaging behaviours?
Should we offer those products at the ground or just not actively advertise it?
