It’s time to eat the humble pie and take back all the abused showers at Pep Ljinders on signing Gravenberch. He was outstanding today. A couple of misplaced passes, but under pressure, he can handle the ball and that is the most difficult attribute for a football player.

Outstanding? He did OK
His effort and how he carries himself there's been a major improvement. That as fans we can only applaud.

He seems to be developing quite nicely but today was a step back which will happen. He was not outstanding defensively today at ties. I still wish for a bit more aggression from him. He is very much heading in the right direction overall though so I ll gladly eat the pie too but he needs to improve which of course he needs to do on a newish position and system. Like every other player. Still would love a top class DM. Think we would notice what a game changer it would be if one was bought.

Close 2nd to mom after Luis Diaz!

Davey what parts of his game today do You think was a step back mate?
Personally I didn’t think Bretford caused us any threat through the middle of midfield and most of their threat was from set pieces.
Gotta say though Szob’s fitness and speed chasing back counter attacks was exceptional today.

Outstanding… behave. I thought we were competent and deserved to win, but calm down. I’ll take what I see however if results keep materialising.

It's difficult because he picked up the yellow card JK but he still needs work on his tackling. Little bit of laziness tracking back at times which wasn't evident last week. Just all round less effort than he put in last week. I want more from him now that I know it's there. He needs to check his shoulder more because there were runners that he left but Brentford did not have the ability to use it. It would be a worry for me against better teams. Overall he was better last week at tracking runners. I hope he focuses on that side of his game as much as on the ball because we' ll need it against better teams.
Thought he was outstanding last week. Decent today but far from outstanding and nowhere near the MOTM award. Overall he has made huge strides so far this season. Let's not overplay it yet though. If today was last season then I'd say great job. But last week happened. That's the standard now. He s a good prospect now. That's for sure. So I'm excited about that. Also the player I watch the most on the pitch. But let's be fair. Macca outshone him today by a good bit.

Where did you hear or read it was Lijnders who signed Gravenberch? Serious question.
26 Aug 2024 00:36:48
We still need a midfielder.
Grav, Mac and Szob are not physically strong enough, imo.
I can wait though.

Was our previous assistant manager in charge of making signings? Not sure about that. Besides even I'd he did which I very much doubt it doesn't excuse his shoddy tactics and implementation of a system. Grav was always a good player, but he already looks way better under Slots coaching than he ever did Peps.

If a player randomly does something that the player taking initiative. If a player is consistently doing the same thing I'll wager money that it's tactical instructions.

What I really enjoy about Gravenberch in this (his more natural) position is his ability to take the ball under pressure and spin to start the attack. He can take 3-4 players out of the game doing that. It comes with risks but it is nice to watch.

I still don’t think he’s a real number 6 but I agree Gravenberch looked good. Seemed to be everywhere and he’s really improved in that area markedly.

Cheers Davey
I thought he played well mate but we all see the game differently.
I thought we looked really solid in the middle and Brentford’s only out ball was to try and use their left back and winger first half which Mo and Trent did a good job against.
