Just checked out a highlight clip from the new keeper, and someone really needs to teach him how to catch!
The amount of times he jumps in the air and pushes the ball away, rather than making a simple catch.

Agree0 Disagree0

In other words it’s called “Flapping”. No matter who comes through the door but offloading Allison next year for anyone would be the dumbest thing ever.

Sorry I was taking a break but can’t stop myself.

@UnderArmor, can you explain what you mean by your second sentence ? I understand that the words are English but the way you have put the all together doesn’t seem to make any sense. Apologies in advance if English isn’t your primary language.

I appreciate that an extensive review of social media and an in-depth 5 minute highlights package is way more than enough to write off a professional footballer but given the club brought in Ali and CK I’m prepared to rely on the club’s scouting system, or at least wait until the lad shows up and people can watch him in person, so to speak.

I also think it is a very good strategic move by Liverpool. CK’s contract runs out next summer (imagine, we won’t get any money for him either) and as, seemingly, Jaros and Pitulaga haven’t impressed in their auditions, the act of looking for another keeper who has the necessary experience to step in as a back-up for a season (or two) until Ali’s contract ends actually proactively solves a big problem before it occurs. Just a line of thought.

I think Chiesa for £15m is a very good (and again astute) piece of business, particularly given the prices in today’s market. I would seem him as cover for the 3 and 1 in a 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 set up and for the price against the potential damaging effects of the increasingly distant ACL injury I see him as a potentially excellent signing.

Another thought - I read that our pass success rate against Brentford was 92% and was the best that’s ever been recorded by us in a (league? ) match. In addition, 2 games - 3 hours plus - of PL playing time and we haven’t conceded a goal - best hurry up and get that unicorn (sorry DCM) in asap.

One final thought - a couple of weeks before the season started, I saw an analysis by a financial analyst (sorry have forgotten his name) that predicted that our revenue streams would likely exceed £300m this season. Given SvdB + Clark + Carvalho, none of whom were ever going to get into our squad on a regular basis for a number of reasons, have realised £55m before add-ons and sell-ons, then we might not need to play the new ‘dodge the PSR bullet’ next June 31st.

Anyway, I’m off until the window is closed (mean it this time) - bring on Seven!

WDW3, I find your argument - as always - very strong and difficult to counter and very often far more astute than mine.

One disagreement: I really can't see the Chiesa argument. Does anyone really come back completely from an ACL injury? Is the EPL the right league for a post-ACL career? He's cheap, is that justification enough? I think he's a pound shop buy for the sake of buying.

Anyway, keep up the good work. You are one of about 6 posters I enjoy reading who make me not want to contribute other than with thumbs up.

Cheers all and here's for the 20 and the 7.

highlights i saw showed a keeper who does what gks are taught nowadays - namely when under pressure punch or push it away from the opponent. He catches them when no opponent is nearby. Pushing it away he seemed to do a good job of keeping it away from opponents but as i said it was a highlights package so no telling what was not shown. One thing - his throwing is better than Ali - can't believe he is able to get it beyond the half way line. He doesn't look as good on the ball as Ali but then again who does?

28 Aug 2024 06:47:19
Not writing him off West, nor am I providing any scouting reports based on my short time watching YouTube. Just offering an opinion that what someone has deemed his best bits and put them in a condensed highlight clip for us all to watch…. he seems to unnecessarily push out rather than catch the vast majority of shots at him. Just my observation. Take a look and see what you thing?

28 Aug 2024 07:10:52
Delvecs Not sure if they were the same injuries as Chiesa but Vvd and Diaz both had bad knee injuries.

28 Aug 2024 07:28:35
Great WDW3 you can continue to work out how much money the club has brought in. It’s of absolutely no relevance what comes in unless we reinvest it properly. The club is still behind on the commercial side. As it stands our better players are leaving next year and they will be impossible to replace. We must act now, get the contracts signed.

28 Aug 2024 07:31:37
You been on Tik Tok again 6Gold?

28 Aug 2024 08:02:27
Yeah, don't know either JK23 but Chiesa was breathtaking before his injury. He's not now. And he's 27 - peak age, they say.

28 Aug 2024 08:21:42
YouTube Mark, as earlier stated. I don’t have the time to watch every European game, so can’t admit to ever watching him play, other than in the euros. All I was trying to say, is that from my very limited viewing of him…. he tends to have a habit of punching/ pushing away, rather than making an easy catch. Not always, just sometimes.
I really wish I hadn’t posted’.

28 Aug 2024 08:30:48
Chiesa played 37 out of Juve’s 43 games last season.
We’re around the same time period following recovery from a major Knee injury that VVD was so it’s not all bad news.

28 Aug 2024 08:33:39
I can paraphrase it for you WDW. Offloading Allison next summer would be very dumb.

I think Chiesa for £15m is a very good.
Now I understand your “English” could you explain me how? You are only looking at the price and nothing more. The guy is a walking hospital. There is a reason Juventus want him gone.

28 Aug 2024 08:45:26
@Markp doesn’t our commercial value place us in the top 3 or 4 teams in world club football? I think your perception of the club’s commercial capability is woefully inaccurate.

Quite by chance you said something that I agree with. The club’s commercial prosperity is potentially worthless if we don’t re-invest properly. The thing is investing, say, £1.5 billion on players isn’t necessarily anything like a proper re-investment, just take a look at the clown circus down at the Bridge - Monday we are thinking of buying Sancho, Wednesday it’s Toney.

You could put forward an argument that the new training facility, the ground improvements (our highest ever (league) attendance at Anfield last Sunday, by the way) and a prudent buying policy is, in my opinion, is re-investing properly. I’m sure you disagree and what we should do is kidnap people Tchouameni, Bellingham, Caicedo and Zubimendi and then point a gun at their heads until they sign contracts that they don’t want to sign. The club said, about 2 or 3 years ago, before Edward’s left, that the plan going forward was to try and bring in one first team starter and promising youngsters per window, which, by and large, we’ve done. Why don’t you just wait and see where we are on Saturday instead of the constant sniping and whining which is basically derailing every ‘conversation’ that you participate in?

28 Aug 2024 09:07:51
It’s around 5th I believe. We were signing sleeve deals at £5m, our competition were signing at £10+. We are £40m short in commercial revenue. That’s inside the CL.

28 Aug 2024 09:33:15
UnderArmor, who says we are offloading Ali? If Ali wants to go and see other people and we let him go, that is not us "offloading" him so I don't get that statement to begin with.

Also if there is a chance to get Ali's replacement in then, why would we pass that up? You may not realise it but imagine Ali says he wants to go next summer with no replacement at the ready.

At that point, every club in Europe will know we are a desperate need for a starting GK and they are going to try to stick us for every penny we have and that could lead to overpaying for a Mamardashvili cos trust me we would have to pay double what we paid now, to get him in that scenario. Mate, there is a reason the specialists are at the club while we are out here on a forum talking footie smack. Just saying.

{Ed025's Note - i do get the Marma signing Oli, but im not sure the "specialists" at the club are that special up to now mate..

28 Aug 2024 09:37:55
@Markp, If you say so - where are you sourcing your figures? I assume that you mean we ‘lost’ £40m in revenue last season by not being in the CL?

@UnderArmor - thank you for the précis and I have to say I totally agree with you - selling Alison next summer would be dumb, especially when you consider that his contract until 2027. Given the fact that Ali has stated he wants to see his contract out and would be happy to look at renewing I think the focus is ensuring we hav3 a back-up keeper for next season.

28 Aug 2024 09:41:20
@delvecs, we were going to sign a certain Nabil Fekir who at that time, had 2 nasty knee ligament injuries in both his knees (he had to get and athroscopic surgery one of his knees as well) and the guy is still playing football 5 years later for Betis. Indeed, people had concerns back then but I don't recall anyone asking if the the EPL is the best league for a player post-ACL either.

Or are you saying that Fekir was good enuff to play well for Lyon and Betis post-ACL but would not have been good enuff to play for LFC in the same PL had we signed him post-ACL? Just asking, mate.

28 Aug 2024 09:55:55
Maybe Chiesa's injury and that Juve are willing to sell mean that he is available at that price and a render him an 'opportunistic' buy.
Fans were moaning when we pursued Zubimendi who wasn't determined to leave or his club openly willing to listen to offers.

28 Aug 2024 11:33:47
6 gold stars.

Never be sorry for posting. Its an opinion site where everyone's opinions have zero bearing on what the club, owners, manager or players do regardless of what side of the fence they sit on.

28 Aug 2024 11:39:23
Wasn’t the real reason that the fekir deal fell through that his brother or entourage posing as his agent suddenly demanded a huge chunk of cash from the club for him to sign and they suddenly pulled the plug because they didn’t want to be messed about?

28 Aug 2024 11:40:47
Just echoing oli here in suggesting that fekir would have signed despite his injury and that the club appeared to be perfectly fine with where his body was at at the time.

28 Aug 2024 12:06:56
Indeed, PB. That's all I'm saying. I ain't saying nothing else.

28 Aug 2024 12:47:08
Isn't that what medicals are for?

I'm sure the team in charge of medicals are very thorough and do more than just a pi55 test.

There are transfers that fall through due to issues during the medical so let us wait until a deal is agreed and a medical is passed/ failed then get on board supporting our team.

Enrico may not be the princess that was promised but at the rumoured fees we won't be throwing away keita money.
