I don't know about everyone else but I'm very excited about the arrival of Chiesa. He was literally one of the best players in the world a few years ago, he's only 26 and can hopefully reach those heights again.

Love being a red.

Then had a serious injury and not the same player now
Up the pool.

28 Aug 2024 14:12:56
I am excited too. Hopefully the medical goes well.

28 Aug 2024 14:17:05
Atleast this signing seems less weird than Mamardashvilli. If prices mentioned are correct, its a punt worth taking.

28 Aug 2024 14:27:08
I don't get really excited about signings anymore but this signing feels different. I think it's because we're signing an actual superstar from another European giant. It's not someone about to go into their twilight years like with Thiago Alcantara, Maxi Rodriguez or Fernando Morientes. It's not even someone with unfulfilled potential like Phillipe Coutinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge or Antonio Nunez were. It's somebody who's already been a key player at a massive club and is just about to hit their prime. When did we last do that? I'm sure we have and I'm probably just having a mind blank, but it's rare we sign a player of this calibre from anther super power club. We normally poach star players off clubs from the next tier down. I'm so hyped to see him play for us.

Everyone is positive about this one.

Hope we get to see his best in LFC colours.

Got a feel that Salah and Chiesa will form similar ubderstanding like with Bobby, though the position will be different.

Jota, Nunez, Diaz are not at that level yet. If true at 10 or 12 M, it is super bargain and worth every cent.

This goalie deal can never be understood or can't make sense of it.

28 Aug 2024 14:49:43
Always loved Chiesa. Injury set him back but still italys best player imo. Pace, power and good finisher. For the figures quoted this is a bargain and he is a much better player than Gordon.

28 Aug 2024 14:29:07
Now let's get rabbiot in for free and hughes and edward pull a masterclass.

28 Aug 2024 14:34:39
Best player in the world is a stretch. I can agree with you that he was one of italys best player when they won the euro 20, but that is 3 years ago and he has had a few injuries. Hopefully he will be a good addition to pur squad.

28 Aug 2024 15:02:02
Cannot go wrong with a 12mill deal.

28 Aug 2024 15:03:05
Along with ACL he has also suffered by playing under Allegri, who is know for his cautious style of play, whereas he flourished under Pirlo.

28 Aug 2024 15:16:03
In answer to MK, the last superstars LFC bought were Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres who were both established World Stars.

@Sanjit
How is the Mamardashvili signing weird?
We are signing the player who will hopefully be good enough to take over from Alisson in a few years. Alisson is 32 and, as awesome as he is, may be mapping out the next stage of his career and life.
Alisson eventually leaving will leave an emperor-sized pair of boots to fill, so signing a young goalkeeper with bags of potential and having already shown some excellent quality is not at all weird.

I don't understand why the GK signing is so odd. It's obvious CK is leaving at some point and isn't part of the long term plan. Whilst Ali has come out recently and said he's happy at the club, we all know how the sport works, he can easily change his mind or the club could see his injuries become more regular and it becomes a concern.
It was reported that the new GK was a long term target but due to his form, he likely wasn't going to be available in the next year or two, so the club moved quickly to secure him and loan him out to ensure he gets regular play time as does Ali. To me, this is exactly the type of foresight required to ensure future proofing a position that will likely need filling in the future. Smart business from the club to me.

And there goes the buzz, @Old akira.

Also @StEtienneAmen, Allegri had him even playing right wing-back, as well. Been a huge fan of Chiesa from the off so kinda happy we signed him on that front. Let's see what happens.

28 Aug 2024 15:22:16
Probably fail the medical and his stats are worse than Diaz so can’t see this is improving the first 11. We have 5 very good forwards for 3 places as it is. Is he a clinical finisher? If so I take it all back and get him in? Where are the signings we actually need to improve the first 11 which is a decent number 6 who can tackle and pass the ball in tight spaces as whilst Grav has done well I can’t see him being the answer if we want to win something this season. And the left sided defender.

28 Aug 2024 15:44:09
"Probably fail the medical and his stats are worse than Diaz so can’t see this is improving the first 11".

Yikes! With statements like this, who needs rivals?

28 Aug 2024 15:44:51
He’s a £12 million signing for a reason, let’s not forget about that. He might turn out to be a good buy.

28 Aug 2024 15:52:55
It’s always great to read posts from supposedly fellow Liverpool supporters/ fans, you know the ones that says “he’s probably going to fail he’s medical”, he’s always injured, another Melo, made of crisps etc etc and it’s always the same posters who you can rely on to make these statements, Rabiot has been getting it too and now it seems Nunez is in the firing line, maybe some of these so called supporters should see how it plays out before spouting nonsense and see how these players, transfers work out first.

28 Aug 2024 15:55:31
@Lowe1FC weird on multiple fronts for me though -
1. GKs can play till their late 30s
2. CK is yet to move. If Alli moves in next 1 yr, why not stick with him.
3. Mama hardly seems be good with this feet. Seems to be a bit of old fashioned style keeper though I must admit I have watched him only limited times mostly in Euros.
4. Why about Jaros! Even if CK moves it seems we already have another good number 2.
5. We do not have unlimited resources.
But still more weirder signings have worked so who knows! As long as he dons a LFC jersey, I will continue to support him.

28 Aug 2024 16:14:33
Best thing about this transfer is Chiesa is really happy to come and start new adventure. Both him and famiky.

This is a super positive sign.

28 Aug 2024 16:22:47
@warmachine, he’s known to be very clinical and composed in front of goal, ice cold even. His goals tend to be very well placed.
I still think it’s a bit of a risky one but one well worth taking.

28 Aug 2024 16:54:27
If he managed to stay fit all of last season, maybe his form and body is on an upwards trajectory again! Looking forward to what he can do :) He was incredible 3 years ago, hopefully he gets back to his full level!

28 Aug 2024 17:03:17
Thanks for the informative reply 1985mikey. If he’s clinical then that’s definitely something we need to get better at from last season so hopefully he will improve us. I guess it’s an ‘opportunistic’ signing which Hughes did say his approach would be this window. Hopefully there’s a CM out there somewhere to improve us.

28 Aug 2024 17:33:33
Did someone just say Suarez and Torres were established world stars when we bought them?

They really weren’t. Far from it in fact.

Suarez was at Ajax so although a decent club he was unproven in the biggest leagues. He was probably better known for biting an opponent and a deliberate handball in the World Cup.

Torres was a homegrown hero at Atletico and was in the Spanish squad but this was nothing like the Atletico we know today. They were an average side so it was a huge step up for him to challenge at the top end of the premier league and in the later stages of the champions league.

Both were good prospects but not established world stars by any stretch.

28 Aug 2024 18:22:14
@ MK re Antonio Nunez.
He was a bit of a cult hero for me and my pal during that 04/ 05 season, mainly down to just how terrible he was and that he was used as a makeweight in the deal for Owen, Madrid were absolutely laughing with that deal. I didn't realise he was earmarked as a player with potential. Still, thanks for stirring those memories in me.
I loved the Benitez era.
