What's the plan for Elliott? I really like him but he's not usurping McAllister or Szob. Is he seen as surplus?

If he comes on as a sub and does the business, he will surely be kept. The issue is his pace, although he is more productive than Dom.

Elliot will have loads of opportunities this season.
I was quite surprised to see him come on and replace Salah as right forward on Sunday as he did well in Pre season as the more advanced midfielder.

Competition for AM with Dom? As a few posts have pointed out recently, we now have 2 quality players for every position.
Would be nice to get another CB and ball playing deep lying MF, which would allow Endo and Joe to leave (if they are not part of the plans/ want to leave to be a starter) .
I can’t see any problem with Elliott though if he’s happy to rotate/ fight for his place.

Klucas87, there will be tons of opportunities for everyone so give it time. Same for Darwin as well cos I see people putting 2 and 2 together to make 222 by saying Darwin wants out cos he has not started both games, as if anyone paying attention thought he would start and play the full 90 in both games with the mad Copa America comp. he had. Again, give it time.

He’s going to be fighting it out with Szob for that advanced midfielder position, plus I’m sure he will get a few mins in the other midfield places and right wing as well now and again.
I don’t think he’s first choice to be fair to him but I can see him having a really good season, that advanced midfield role will bring out the best in him.

Appearances have never been Elliot’s issue but minutes have.
Last season he made 34 league appearances but minutes wise he only played the equivalent of 15 games.
He’s got lots of talent though so I honestly see him surpassing last seasons minutes for slot.

Elliott and surplas do not belong in the same season.
I think Macca will stay in the double pivot so really that 10 will be fought out between him and szobo.
Chiesa vs Salah
Gakpo vs Diaz
Jota vs Nunez.
That front line options doesn't sound half bad does it.
The more I think about Chiesa, I'm coming round. The price is so good. I reckon he'll do quite well if he stays fit. I've decided I'm going to be optimistic about this one. If he gets fit and back to what he was, others will be seriously looking over their shoulders.
I honestly feel we should be like South Africa in rugby.
Start Diaz, Jota, Salah, Szobo but have Gakpo, Nunez, Chiesa, Elliott training together none stop.
Twenty minutes to go every game the other 4 come on together. I just want that fear factor amongst everybody. Here comes the bomb squad. 20 minutes together every game to get used to each other and get rhythm.
Might take a little time to get used to it but once they all get used to it, in theory it should hurt the other team.
Honestly, my heart sinks every time the SA bring on the bomb squad in Rugby. Literally like, oh rubbish. This is going to get tough.
I want that same fear in rival fans. Would love to see it.

We will play 60 games this season. Elliot is the 4th or 5th choice midfielder so will get plenty games.

I like the acquisition of Chiesa - kudos to Ed2 who spoke about this ages ago - quality, solid player. He had decent enough numbers after that really bad injury, great price and the transfer also has the 'what if' factor too - think he's solid but man if he could recapture the form he had before injury, jeez there's a hell of a player there.
Cover wise, we then have the following in the more forward positions:
Szoboslai/ Elliott
Diaz/ Gakpo
Jota/ Nunez
Salah/ Chiesa
That's some pretty good options to have isn't it? And if (big enough if tbf) Jota can stay fit, that's a potent attack.
