Stepping into the rather large shoes of Klopps and having International tournaments delaying players return to pre season adds more pressure to A Slot.
To then assess a full squad of players in a limited amount of time and try and implement his way of playing with also a limited amount of time.
Next season is the right time for new additions to the squad as Slot will know what is needed after a full season of experience and assessment of the current squad.

Then why did the club try to sign Varela, Zubimendi, and Inacio? It’s clear the club itself doesn’t believe that this is not the right time to strengthen, more that they failed in doing so. Who the responsibility for this failed is on I don’t know, but I think we should stop kidding ourselves that this window panned out exactly as we wanted.

Slot definitely knows Endo is not the player he needs at the base. Good enough to go and buy one. We did not. Wasted opportunity. I also don’t think he had any clue on Chiesa.

What’s the end game of saying “they failed to do so”? Like, what value are we getting from that position?
Seems more to me that in the case of Varela we enquired, heard a pretty firm “pay the clause or get lost” response so we steered clear. And we know what happened with Zubi.
Like I say to my U10s when they miss a pass, miss a tackle, miss a shot - “go get the next one lad”.

I think the old ‘needed time to assess his squad’ is true but massively overblown.
It’s never ever been this big a deal for another manager in world football and let’s be honest 90% of our match day squads are global football superstars that you would need to Be living under a rock not to know about and need to asses.
Slot has come in and kept all said superstars as well as starting them all and has sold the players that fans said needed selling months ago that apparently needed selling.
For me it was always going to be difficult to improve on this squad because 90% of them are superstars and the transfer model the club runs.
This squad is definitely good enough to compete for the league this season and the only thing that we need on our side is luck with injuries at centre half and the midfield position that’s closest to our keeper that keeps changing its name.

There are people employed by the club Faith, on extremely lucrative salaries, whose job it is to identify, negotiate, and ultimately sign players that improve the team now and in the future. They have largely failed that brief. This is not U10’s missing a penalty, this is professional, highly paid people not doing the job they were hired for. The only reason so many on here are so jovial and nonchalant about it is because we’ve had a good start to the season. There are a ton of fixtures to come, injures will happen, the squad will be tested, I don’t think it’s strong enough and, given the players the club attempted to sign, it’s clear they don’t either.
