Ed1 what do you think of Ian Graham. I'm surprised to see yet another book release about the title we won but I've heard its a good read and worth picking up.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know enough about him to be honest, but I would be very interested to read that book. He has come across well in interviews but it is only his side that is being given. Coming from theoretical physics to football date analysis is something you don't hear of every day!}

Ed01, I saw some highlights of his interview and some of his takes were quite interesting on certain signings we made and didn't make.

{Ed001's Note - agreed, it is intriguing what he said, though it is only his viewpoint.}

Personally I don’t trust anyone with a first name as his surname. Or anyone who doesn’t like dogs.

Ed1, it seems to me we are only hiring geniuses for the position. His successor, Spearman has PhD in in Particle Physics from Harvard. He also used to work at CERN. Only the best of the best scientist can work there.

{Ed001's Note - that is how it should be in all positions at the club. We should only hire the best in any role.}

Great insight from his interviews.

what I liked most about it is that he explained data is just part of the approach to targeting players, not the only or the most important aspect.

{Ed001's Note - which is exactly how it should be. You can't just use the eye test as you can't see everything just by watching that one player for the 90min, as you need to see where passes go etc. But data alone is not enough as there is not enough repetitions of any action within even a season to rule out anomalies. Plus you need context on top of all that - is the player carrying an injury, for example, or struggling to concentrate as his wife has just left him or someone close to him has just taken seriously ill etc. There needs to be a holistic approach to it, that includes researching his background, family background and friends, what he does in his spare time etc. It all makes a difference.}

Or Ed01, how does the player react when fans get on him or how he reacts after he loses the ball? Just adding to what you have said.

{Ed001's Note - you could create a huge list of things and, in fact you really should if you are scouting a player with a view to signing them.}
