Just to point out, under some of the best managers LFC have had, there are a number of them who suffered a bad result or performance after international games. So this result i believe was down to this and that the Nottingham Forest game plan worked for them and hats off to Forest and their manager.

The table reads : City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Villa.
We basically did nothing in the summer so it’s as you were. Nothings changed. Let’s hope we mix the starting 11 up a little in Milan.
Even if it’s just to Prevent that stale feeling that was there yesterday.
15 Sep 2024 18:25:02
Is the Premier League becoming stale or even a so called farmers league?
We’re only 4 games in and table reads.
City
Arsenal
Liverpool
Villa
Who were all first to Fourth the best sides in the league last season in that order.
{Ed025's Note - it could well be a farmers league JK, well im watching a bunch of cabbages every weekend mate.. :)

It's reading City, Arsenal, Newcastle and us, at the minute LiverpoolFC8. I agree, on the one hand, that changes need to be made, but I'm not sure who improves us of those who would be coming in. I don't share Ed01s optimism regards to Nunez. Headless and chicken will always spring to mind with me. I hope I'm proven wrong. The sooner Chiesa can get himself upto speed, the better, because I think we're all pinning our hopes on him.
I appreciate it's just one defeat, and I wasn't getting carried away after the first 3 games, but I will always maintain we should've strengthened in certain areas and to have not done so is both arrogant and naive. I fear there will be other results like yesterday and we must be prepared for that.

Amazing statistical analysis! But very damning on Edwards.
Edwards for all his fancy statistical tools using latest AI has failed to observe that our starting 11 did not change! WTH! yet he expect Slot to improve on achievement of UCL winning mamager. Can anybody point to this out to Henry?
15 Sep 2024 18:43:00
Leek, what's it got to do with Edwards and Henry?
15 Sep 2024 18:55:35
Well Newcastle just p##sed on my bonfire ?.
15 Sep 2024 19:14:38
Agree with @Love. Nunez has no future at LFC. The issue is no body I repeat no one with their right brain cells would even pay half of what we owe to Benfica.
15 Sep 2024 20:49:26
Nunez thrives on space and a fast paced chaotic game and at no stage yesterday was there either.
Bobby would have been ideal in that kind of game as he could find space in a single bed with Gemma Collins.
{Ed025's Note - i like that JK, but Bobby would have been no good to you yesterday mate with his little flicks and drag backs, you needed a Tim Cahill or a Duncan Ferguson mate, someone with a set of balls instead of your strictly come dancing line up in midfield.. :)
15 Sep 2024 21:43:01
From the small amount of games we’ve seen under Slot. It appears to me the Midfield is by far the most important.
It’s our weakest area in terms of Quality, in terms of Strength.
We were bullied in midfield all game. MacAlister looked like a child in there against Yates. Fabinho would’ve squashed him. that's the blueprint to beat us comfortably.
The worry I have is we had absolutely no answer to it all game. Milan will have seen it. Milan will try it. And it’s upto Slot to find a way to better it.
15 Sep 2024 22:50:14
City have won it 4 times in a row and 6 out of 7.
Premier League can’t afford to become predictable.
16 Sep 2024 00:01:09
The PL is not a Farmer's League.
Teams at the bottom are competitive, generally, and City have been taken to the last day of the season on a few occasions, at least. They won't be as strong when Guardiola goes either.
We've had spells of United, Arsenal and Chelsea winning it too without mentioning us walking to it or Leicester being champions.
It's one of the most competitive leagues that I can think of but Guardiola is an exceptional manager that doesn't get the credit, on here, that he deserves. If his reputation is tarnished then we can have a go but until then his achievements speak for themselves.
16 Sep 2024 00:01:33
The most yellow cards in a EPL weekend ever I think I read?
16 Sep 2024 01:08:36
Slot stated that the international break did not have a bearing on the result against Forest. he's not hiding behind excuses and neither should we.
16 Sep 2024 01:47:00
as I said in my post yesterday, the post-match chatter has been amazingly amnesiac.
and I also can't believe from journos to fans to ex-pro pundits making this claim that there is a fault in Slot's style after this game. As if Klopp's teams never ever had performances like this.
Some of the rhetoric has been ridiculous.
When rebuilding, you have to stick to your principles and get better at implementing our identity. Otherwise we'll turn into manU and Chelsea.
16 Sep 2024 02:51:27
Sometimes teams don’t play well. On Saturday at 3pm we didn’t show up. It’s got nothing to do with Edwards, FSG, the table at the end of last season or anything else that superstitious types want to link. We were just poor on the day.
16 Sep 2024 05:09:38
Lord, we lose one game and out come the "we need to buy a destroyer" people again. It's four games in, we're not going to win every game. City aren't going to win every game either.
16 Sep 2024 05:13:42
We have to accept that Nunez looks like its not going to work he don't look like the sort of player for Slots game. I think it was a mistake not to give chiesa 20 mins, our lack of depth will see some players burn out by march if the subs make no impact.
16 Sep 2024 06:13:04
Good reply that rigsby.
Would be interesting to know what the fans of the other 16 clubs think in regards to it being a competitive league.
16 Sep 2024 06:55:18
I am as annoyed as anyone after Saturday but it's still been a decent start under Slot. Top 4 finish in a first season without his own players whilst still bringing in his own tweaks to style would be a decent return IMO. Yeah I know we want to win everything etc but let's be honest competing with Citeh is nigh on impossible. What Klopp achieved was different level.
16 Sep 2024 07:47:43
City aren't going to win every game either.
Well it looks like they won’t lose many ?. Honestly they would smash Forrest.
16 Sep 2024 09:55:03
JK, they might think their teams are more competitive than you do. They might not judge the competitiveness of the league before the fourth games have been completed. Villa fans might even remember that it's their first season in the European Cup for over forty years. I remember us not being in the CL last season.
Some of those other fans might even have a different idea of what a Farmer's League is.
16 Sep 2024 10:35:59
Rigsby they might do but they might not I'd imagine opinions will vary.
Apologies for pointing out that last seasons top 4 finishers were the current top 4 prior to Newcastle's game yesterday and for asking the question 'is the Premier League becoming stale or even a so called farmers league?
16 Sep 2024 11:15:24
There's no need to apologise, JK; I was just answering your questions and giving my thoughts on your wonderings.
It's just general forum stuff, mate.
16 Sep 2024 11:25:42
Metflix, football doesn’t work that way. 9 times out of 10 we’d smash Forest too but on this occasion we didn’t.
Just like we smashed Brentford easily but City went 1-0 down in a minute and had more shots on their goal than they’ve had in 10 years eventually limping to a scruffy win.
Does that mean we are better than City because we made easier work of Brentford? No. Of course not.
Losing to Forest at home stings, a lot. But let’s look at the game in perspective rather than flying off the handle and saying everyone’s not good enough.
We dominated the game in every aspect and got caught with a sucker punch. Nuno set his team up for exactly this scenario and we played right into his hands. They didn’t come to Anfield and batter us. They had a game plan to frustrate for an hour and bring on pace at the end as we got more desperate and took chances and it worked.
On another day we score in the first half (Diaz hit the post and Jota had a decent chance) and that brings them out and we win 3-0. That didn’t happen on this occasion but that’s football.
This will hopefully be a valuable lesson for Slot that any team can beat you if you’re not 100% on it. Klopp got that lesson with a home defeat to Palace early in his tenure and he famously swore about it in a press conference. It annoyed him so much that it drove him on, let’s hope Slot can do the same.
16 Sep 2024 11:45:20
Honestly @Becker. We didn’t dominate the game. We had possession and that’s down to the fact Forrest sat back and allowed us. They absolutely bullied our midfield and that was embarrassing.
You talk about changing the perspective, like How exactly? I can’t find any positive form that game.
And none of this would actually matter if we go and win the league which I think we won’t!
16 Sep 2024 11:55:01
Rigsby i agree mate.
The reason i asked the question stemmed from a selfish point of view because City usually start slow and then fire on all cylinders. When i saw the league table yesterday after the Forest defeat i was a little deflated as my first thought was are City likely now just going to stay there for the rest of the season and then thought the same of Arsenal.
I was speaking to a mate who's a Spurs fan and he kind of said if I'm down about the league competitiveness then how do i think he feels or other fans below Spurs.
I genuinely put it on here as a question more on the league going stale side rather than the throw away farmers league comment.
I think over the years there would always be surprise team (s) who would be flying high at the start for a few months and then as we know one of the big 6 usually ends up winning it.
Just this season its the end of game week 4 and the table was aligned how it was.
I'm sick to death of seeing City winning the league and my mate pointed out that he is sick to death of also seeing us and Arsenal challenging them.
16 Sep 2024 12:59:10
I get your point and I'm the same, JK. I rarely watch a full City game or all the highlights for the same reason. They are just too good for most sides.
I reckon there are less competitive leagues though; even if they are not dominated by a team as good as City.
I think the top four battle will be interesting this season too.
It won't be as easy for us as it was last season, imo.
16 Sep 2024 13:27:44
It could just be me though but I didn't see them bullying our midfield. They compacted the middle, true, but I didn't see them as having won the midfield battle. They didn't cut us through the middle or bulldozed their way through it. On the contrary, I think we did pretty well in midfield, barring Yates slapping Macca around a bit, but I think that is more on Macca than Yates. They caught us out with their wingers, playing on the flanks, usually on the counter.
17 Sep 2024 12:52:34
Thought we controlled the tempo to the game, far too slow to attack, the low block has been challenging for us for years now teams fear us, but to get beat is embarrassing. I’d like to know seriously why we aren’t taking shots though, Diaz chance was a shot out of nothing really and hit the post…. / why aren’t the other trying, takes a flick off a defender in into or even out for a corner and keep on pressuring. But no we try and walk it into net. The worst fact is we were at home. Most teams are going to defend like that against us and I’ll bet they’ll be 3 or 4 that do us over.
