Hi ed001, just wondering what your preferred front 3 is now?

I think mine is Diaz, jota, Salah.
But Gakpo is now pushing Diaz.

{Ed001's Note - not Jota at all, he is not working as a regular starter, so I would have Nunez between Diaz and Salah, though Gakpo is very close to Diaz.}

Thanks Ed, it's a good problem to have. Hope slot can keep them all happy.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate. It is the best kind of problem to have.}

Agree with Ed001. I would start with Nunez, although I did like the link up with Jota as second striker/ no 10 . that's an interesting option to Dom and Harvey, although I still think it helped Nunez was leading line.

Be interesting to see stat on which combos start throughout the season.
I imagine it might end up relatively even barring injury.

I went the game last night and seeing Gokpo live is an eye opener he is unbelievable. So much better than I thought he would be. He wanted the ball all the time and rightly so because he was turning the defence inside out. It wasn’t really happening for Nunez last night apart from an assist. One thing that did stand out was Tsimikas am not impressed at all and clearly a weak link.

Longthing, Tsimikas and Gomez both stood out as weak links for me. They take too long on the ball and get basic passes wrong repeatedly. Endo also struggled a bit with his first touch but did grow into it as the game wore on. I also think Quansah and Bradley both had their worst games so far but they're young enough to iron those issues out hopefully. Luckily West Ham weren't good enough to consistently capitalise on our very poor defensive performance and on the rare occasion when they did, Kelleher thwarted them anyway.

I think a new LB will be a priority next summer. Robertson is getting on anyway and we can't persevere with Tsimikas forever. Ruthlessness is needed to get to the top.

Well based on yesterday's game, it seems like our forwards can all play together depending on the opposition and the formation we want to deploy. That can only be a good thing especially with the fact that Darwin is very versatile and can play with whoever we field either side of him and with Jota as well. Great problem to have, IMO. e.

Love Gakpo really good footballer
Up the pool.

I find it really hard to judge the players when there are that many changes . 9 from the Bournemouth game which is a lot .

They all got the minutes needed to keep them ticking over we won and we didn’t have to go down the route of bringing on the big guns .

Some wayward passing, mistakes and indecision but on a whole I thought we where just about good enough for the win ( prior to the man advantage) considering the wholesale changes made.

Edd001 Jones performed very well in spells last night. Do you think he could take sobs spot in the team?

{Ed001's Note - the real question is if he can stay fit.}

26 Sep 2024 14:21:01
Tsmikas was poor last night but what i liked from Gomez was once Quansah was booked he took over marking Antonio and i thought he did well. would have liked to have seen more of Morton but maybe against Brighton? . YNWA.

Great problem to have where the discussion is who are your best forwards combination.

All of them have had decent minutes now and have all gotten off the score sheet. I don’t think Diaz is actually that far off his league goal tally for last season and we’re not even into October.

26 Sep 2024 15:12:15
Quansah is the one at the back who is constantly talking and organising the back line. Joe was very quiet which I thought was strange considering he was the captain last night.

26 Sep 2024 17:26:28
Mixed game from Quansah and Gomez, Gomez kept giving the ball away trying hollywood passes to no one in particular. He did make some nice interceptions in the 2nd half though. Tsimikas is average but he gives his all, he threw his body to block a shot when he was already down, it was very nice to see.

26 Sep 2024 23:43:42
i was trying to work out why in the first 20-25 mins all our play was going down the left side. Then realised it was because Quansah wasnt opening his body up and so everytime he got the ball his body shape meant he either had to pass it back to the left side or took ages to turn and pass it onto bradley. He did fix this a bit and we suddenly looked much more threatening as they couldn't overload our left side anymore. But i thought it was his worst game i've seen him play. His passing was not as good as it usually is and he struggled with the aggression. Definitely a learning experience for him.
Wrt nunez even though he didn't get a lot of ball, his runs opened up lots of space for others (eg watch his movement when jones ran at the defence and then laid it off for jota) .

Wasn’t this Joe’s first start since last April?

27 Sep 2024 14:55:26
@- Faithin-"WOK"s, That's a Limp Excuse, in case ye never noticed it was Chiesa's first start for Liverpool Football Club, who performed much better in his first start on English Soil having come from Italy!

Nunez over Jota for me as well, not that I don't rate Jota, I just think Nunez has a higher ceiling and needs regular games to get there. Salah picks himself and personally despite how well Diaz has started I prefer Gakpo on the left. No way I'd have Jota in Szlobs position. Elliot when fit and I think Jones in the meantime.
