Here's a statement I found online regarding the shifting of the goal posts by rival fans and media critics regarding our season so far. I will paraphrase, here.

So in previous years including last season and now this season with Slot, "Doesn't matter where they are in the league man United vs Liverpool is the biggest game, Old Trafford is the biggest test for Liverpool when they go there the whole stadium lifts".

After Slot schooled Utd and Ten Slaps at The Toilet this year, what do we hear? "Well, you've only played a poor man United team".

Wait, it gets literally worse. Before this season, "Who would want the Liverpool job? It's a poisoned chalice. Look at when Fergie left and Wenger left. Nobody wants to take it on after a legend of the club departs".

And after the season kicks off with Slot in charge? "Well, Slot inherited a great squad full of world class players. Any one would love to inherit a squad like that. Jurgen has made it so much easier for Slot".

And for their next trick? "Oh, LFC can't be having a great start to the season cos they haven't played tougher teams". Now this last bit is coming from the same critics and rival fans who love to big up the notion that there are no easy games in the PL with one side of their mouth and directly with the other side, they say "insert club we don't like" has had an "easy" start to the season hence, why they are doing well at the top.

So there you have it, folks. Now trying to make all this gunk make sense? Don't waste your precious time cos you are dealing with haters and gaslighters, mates. My advice to our fans getting caught up in this nonsensical exercise of twisting oneself into a pretzel just to avoid saying they were wrong about our club, is just try to ignore the white noise and enjoy each game we play and hope we play and compete well enuff to win regardless of who we play.

Top of the league and Im loving every bit of it.

Rival arguments are consistently nonsensical. Positions and arguments change daily to feed the daily fume in the banter era.

As you say Oli, we're doing brilliantly so far and rivals are looking for ways to diminish that. The most exciting thing about it all is, there's still a lot more to come in terms of performances. It's a work in progress.

Well, I guess different journalists etc. have different views.

Great post Oli mate.

To be fair, our own fans are part of this narrative too!

Not all our fans can be the greatest fans in the world.

That accolade only falls to the chosen ones.

Isn't it just banter?
Like using terms like The Toilet and Ten Slaps? ?
We used to use the 5 Times when United were dominating English football. We taunt Everton about going down when it probably won't happen and some of us don't want it to happen.
It's what fans do.

No different to some Liverpool fans championing Ljinders for the Liverpool job and others having more sense. People, even if they support the same club have differing opinions . What’s new ?‍♂️.

Faithinworks, that is literally the point of my post, mate. I know we have fans who have gotten caught up in this crap narrative hence, they essentially accept such a flawed rhetoric due to continuous droning of such an absurd opinion. They are the actual audience I was trying to reach.

Now, people say we had an easy schedule. So we beat Ipswich, same team Villa (tough team) couldn't beat. We beat Palace, same club Chelsea (tough team) couldn't beat at the Bridge. We beat a poor Milan team, same team that beat Inter (tough team) in the Milan derby and outplayed them, same team (Inter) City (tough team) could score a goal against in the CL. Oh, and we were the only team that won away from home this week. You see where Im going with this?

At the end of the day, nobody knows anything about anything before a ball is kicked and I can take banter but that is not what this is, IMO. It's like they are trying to condition our fans who are happy and excited with our start, to still be sceptical and worried about our team despite the progress we are making. Again, Don't get caught up in this media-driven nonsense cos as Klopp once said, "We don't care about the opinions of those who do not want the best for us".

You should have stuck with not understanding banter rather than that conspiratorial nonsense, Oli, ?.
Who are the 'they' that are conditioning our fans? The same they that played TAA in midfield in the Euros so that he could be made a scapegoat? ?.

{Ed014's Note - surely this kind of bollox is water off of a ducks back and why bring it up if it doesn’t bother you. ?‍♂️ (not you Rigsby).

Every club gets the rip about some shite or other from rival fans.

Oli - good post (the original one)

How did banter about footy and going to the match get replaced by this rubbish? It’s just really sad.

09 Oct 2024 03:00:31
An excellent post, Oli mate.
